Jun 1, 2026Quartet is delightful, with wonderfully designed characters, superb graphics and audio, and retro stylings reminiscent of the glory days of the ‘90s. Fans of turn-based, top-down JRPGs should definitely check out Quartet.

May 26, 2026Quartet’s pacing means you have to have a little patience with it while it sets up all of its various pieces, but it’s certainly worth doing so if you enjoy the genre. Its commitment to its bit costs it here and there, but in the end, I think the sacrifices are worth it. This is a very strong RPG regardless of your affection for the classics, and it’s one that’s comfortable to fit into short or longer sessions as needed. The Switch version is a great way to play the game, as it takes to portability like a duck to water. RPG fans would do well to give this one a look.

Jun 11, 2026Quartet is a phenomenal example of staying true to classic roots while also modernizing other aspects. There is a joy in spending time with all eight characters, and each is well fleshed out and memorable. It’s as though everything from combat to story to the game’s audiovisual clicks together perfectly, offering an experience that feels both familiar yet brand new. Despite the large number of games looking to emulate that classic RPG feel, Something Classic has successfully made old feel new again while understanding that one doesn’t need to reinvent the JRPG entirely. Quartet is a fabulous game that feels right at home on the Nintendo Switch and is absolutely worth the price and time investment, as it does nearly everything right in such a tight package.

May 16, 2026Quartet is a superb JRPG that takes the best of its influences and adds a welcome suite of quality-of-life improvements, from a built-in turbo mode to the removal of random battles. The story builds up well, the characters are engaging, and the regular drip of weapons and abilities keeps things interesting throughout. Quartet is an easy recommendation for JRPG fans in general and would also make for a good introduction to the genre for newcomers.
