Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 3 contains 2 easygoing adventures; each with an undeniable feminine touch. Even though they both lack challenge, playing these delightful SRPGs still makes for a great change of pace from the current gaming landscape.

Many of my complaints from the previous two collections apply here. I would have liked to have seen more effort go into the game’s history – give us scanned copies of the manuals or digital art books or something to make it feel more than a launcher for two games picked at random out of the back catalogue. Nonetheless, these are two deeply nostalgic and important artefacts from a genre, and La Pucelle, in particular, is a pioneering title that every genre fan should play.

While the two games featured in this collection might feel a bit dated at times—mostly Rhapsody—there’s no denying that Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 3 is a wonderful and entertaining look back at where NIS’s journey into the world of SRPGs all began. Given that NIS is running through their old stockpile rather quickly I’m not really sure where they’ll go with Prinny Presents 4 (if there is one). Maybe we’ll get a new localization? Who knows. Either way, I’m looking forward to it.

Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 3 offers two early and accessible works from one of the most prolific and unique video game developers in the business. La Pucelle: Ragnarok and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure are both ambitious titles that pushed the boundaries of the tactical RPG genre at the time, so it is a delight to see them get a chance to shine on a modern console. Both games come with some graphical upgrades, but the core gameplay and experience remain the same. If you can get past some of the dated mechanics and visuals, we'd say it's worth taking a punt and diving into another slice of gaming history.

All in all, Prinny Presents NIS Classics Vol 3 is a pretty solid purchase for fans of retro SRPGs, but I wouldn’t recommend it for casual gamers. However, if you want your young sister or daughter to get into RPGs, this might be a good starter package. She can begin with the easy difficulty and charming story of Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure. Once she has her bearings and is ready for something more complex, she can try La Pucelle: Ragnarok.

Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 3: La Pucelle: Ragnarok / Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure gets these two vintage RPGs back out there, and I think that’s a good thing on principle alone. The games themselves are decent if somewhat dated due to their positions in the history of the company, and there aren’t any added features or extras to enjoy. I’m not impressed that this was yet another launch with an unavoidable crash bug in tow, but NIS patched it pretty quickly. Fans of tactical RPGs or Nippon Ichi Software will be satisfied with what they get here, if not necessarily thrilled.

Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 3 includes 2 RPG classics (Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure and La Pucelle: Ragnarok), reissuing them with minor technical improvements and leaving their strengths and weaknesses mainly untouched.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've now owned all three versions of Rhapsody - PS1, DS, and Switch. It's such a cute game, and I always enjoy playing through it. There are a few things I do wish they had added--having a minimap would be nice--but I'm glad they restored the tactical RPG style of battle that was removed in the DS port. The lyrics in most of the songs aren't great, but in a weird way they fit the game. There's a good number of recruitable puppets, but not an overwhelming number. There were a few times when I couldn't remember what to do, but the world is small enough that just going back to all the towns usually helped.

I haven't played La Pucelle yet, but I'm looking forward to doing so. Overall, Rhapsody could have done with a few quality of life improvements, but it's still a fun game that's great for new RPG players or those who enjoy unique, funny games.

NIS America can only convince in places with the new "Prinny Presents NIS Classics Vol. 3" on the Nintendo Switch. Although the role-playingNIS America can only convince in places with the new "Prinny Presents NIS Classics Vol. 3" on the Nintendo Switch. Although the role-playing games are a lot of fun on one side, they are simply not always great due to the technology and processes. Especially the games themselves have a few weaknesses and thus also drive a few comical and annoying moments on the game board. The technology is decent, but could be better. At least the additional content has turned out well. So we can't completely recommend the "Prinny Presents NIS Classics Vol. 3" and hope for a better edition in the future. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Classic JRPG fans are eating well right now. However, these are both relatively niche titles, and I don’t think that this is quite the level of TLC that they deserve in order to bring them into the modern gaming zeitgeist.
