Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero - Part 2: The Indigo Disk

The Indigo Disc makes Pokémon Scarlet and Purple a much more complete experience by addressing design flaws and introducing new mechanics. However, it still has timing issues and is poorly optimized.

If you are a Pokémon fan, you will probably enjoy getting more out of the versions of Scarlet and Violet with this DLC, while we wait for the next big installment, which could be some kind of remaster. And yes, something to keep in mind is the fact that things are not going to improve graphically or in performance for this new content that is already available in the eShop.

The hidden treasure of Area Zero - Part II: The Indigo Disk is a conclusion to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that leaves a good taste in your mouth. Good story, large territory and a new Pokédex with old-but-gold Pokémon. Do not expect any kind of improvement in the graphics section, though.

It’s safe to say that this DLC will please just about any Pokémon fan. There’s so much to do, and all of it is way more engaging than usual, packaged in all of the best aspects of the main game. It may not fix the game’s biggest flaws, but it’s clear that the team at Game Freak knows what the fans want. If they can just get their technology in order and stick to the ideas pushed in this DLC, the next mainline Pokémon game could be something truly incredible.

Although continued technical issues and the grinding of its quests can be irritating, the finale to the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion makes its imperfections far easier to ignore by doing more to excite all manner of players. Whether you love catching Pokemon or simply want more challenging battles, The Indigo Disk marks a clear step up from The Teal Mask and ties a nice bow around the whole package. Despite not exactly being the treasure its name implies, it still has enough sparkle to keep Pokemon fans happy.

While I had a good time with The Teal Mask, The Indigo Disk was a marked improvement. You’ve got more Pokemon to catch, tougher battles to win, and more to do. On top of that, the story told in the two releases wraps up in a satisfying, well-crafted way. I still wish the clothing options were more robust, to be sure. And the game still doesn’t always run great. But it got me playing Pokemon Violet again, and I’m going to keep doing so. There’s more Legendaries to scoop up, after all. If you’re looking for more from the latest Pokemon game, the Area Zero DLC has some serious bang for your buck.

The indigo disk is the main dish of The hidden treasure or Area Zero: a great expansion with quality content, lots of new things and a ton of hours to play.

No matter how much I enjoyed The Indigo Disk from moment to moment, the flaws from the base game and the painful BBQ gameplay loop prevent me from considering this DLC as something “better.” It is different content, and it is more content, but it is not fundamentally improved content.

While doing nothing to fix the base game’s performance issues, The Indigo Disk’s expertly designed Double Battles, fun exploration and charming storyline make for a solid conclusion to this DLC expansion.

In the second DLC you can expect unusually challenging fights and a lot of activity, but also a weak plot and the usual technical problems.

I enjoyed roaming the Terarium while controlling my favorite Pokemon and the sheer number of different Pokemon spread around the Kitakami and Terarium regions is sure to make all Pokemon collectors happy.

Graphically, it's still a poor experience, with a very weird design and bad technical aspects. But the overall experience was nice - the upgraded difficulty was a welcome change, and I had a ton of fun watching my favorite Pokémon come back.

The Indigo Disk is a blast to play alone and with friends, but it’s still held back by all the same technical issues that made Pokemon Scarlet and Violet a disaster.

Like The Teal Mask and the base games before it, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disk is a fine experience that just feels like it needed more time to cook. The new features and additions make it an enjoyable DLC, but the performance problems occur frequently and are often distracting. The newest battles add a bit more challenge to Gen 9, and roaming around the Terarium to catch the latest Pokémon is still the biggest draw. Overall, the good outweighs the bad. There's no denying how fun it all is.

Although Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is a technical disaster, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expands the main adventure (and its mythology) with interesting content, offering challenges and characters old and new. If you enjoyed the original game I would also recommend the DLC, however I hope Game Freak will try harder in the future.

The Indigo Disk is a surprisingly challenging inclusion to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and in this respect at least, it is extremely satisfying, and will no doubt delight long-time series fans who have been asking for something more difficult than the norm. However, as a conclusion to the story of The Hidden Treasures of Area Zero, it falls short, being disappointingly sparse in both character development and narrative. It fails to capitalise on the setup from both Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and The Teal Mask, largely ignoring its returning characters and rushing its conclusion. Although it goes some way towards making up for the shortcomings of The Teal Mask, there is a lot of missed potential and slightly off execution in its new ideas (most notably the grind for BP to access some of its features) that hold it back from being as enjoyable as it could have been.

For better and worse, Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 2: The Indego Disk is more Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet. Your enjoyment of it will largely depend on how much jank you can still tolerate, but this DLC does some interesting things to spice up the game. Trainers will actually put up a fight, there are cool optional areas to explore, and there’s of course a ton of returning Pokémon to catch. It’s a very small step back to where we fell in love with the series, but still far from its heights.

The Indigo Disk carries on the Pokémon narrative we have come to know, with its positive and negative aspects. The amount of technical bugs is no more surprising than the choice to reintroduce sufficiently difficult and satisfying adversaries. Unfortunately, it is the story that does not hold up and loses bite, resulting in a less epic finale than expected.

In essence, the Zone Zero Buried Treasure DLC is perfect for fans. As promised, it offers a new Pokédex to fill out: it will therefore be perfect for seasoned collectors, especially since the new activities offered in the Indigo Mask give a particular but very pleasant flavor to the gameplay. Conversely, it does not offer anything revolutionary: the story is not particularly worth the detour; the technique is identical to the previous ones and the fights are not particularly striking except for the small seed of challenge that they offer to unprepared players. In a few words, The Indigo Disc is an excellent DLC for fans whose ideas are too little exploited to make it essential for the uninitiated.

More of the same and unfortunately in every respect: The Treasure of Zone Zero brings more of the addictive gameplay loop and at the same time the well-known legacy that was rightly criticized with Pokémon Crimson & Crimson.

The Indigo Disk is more Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, for better or for worse. If you’re still deep into Generation IX, you’ll at least get mileage out of exploring the new areas and seeing the new Pokémon and TMs. But beyond that, The Indigo Disk neither offers a compelling challenge for longtime fans nor a chill grind for more casual fans. Players can at least take solace in that this second half of the DLC is generally better than the first. But for those frustrated by the rushed yearly cycle of Pokémon games, The Indigo Disk will only reaffirm your misgivings.

In many ways an improvement on The Teal Mask but the tedious currency grinding and ongoing technical problems mean Scarlet and Violet’s DLC is far from essential.
