I was ready for a pretty dumb game targeted at Pokemon Go! players only. But I found it really charming and not so toothless as many expected it to be. First of all - it's not that easy. It has this tutorial section where everything is simple and achieving anything is easy but it gets tougher later. Playing Pokemon for over 15 years I was happy to see many changes we always wanted to have - changing pokemon names easily, riding pokemon, taking them out of pokeball, actuall size of pokemon considered (man, is that onix huge!) and a lot of other stuff.

You wanna core game (dude, you'll have it later, okay)? Of course this one is not a core game, it's a nice remake with a little bit changed mechanics. But it works. Pleasing newcomers and veterans isn't simple. But if you really are a veteran, what's your problem with this game? It's a welcoming title for new people and a deep bow for your nostalgia.

    Anyway - I enjoy it. :)

I really do like this game; It;s nintendo trying something new with these pokemon games by making them more like pokemon go. I know that this game won't be for everyone, that was pretty much certain with the pokemon go like features, but damn this hate for something different is intense. Either way though, this game is a good game, even if it's different

While I was skeptical at first about the way wild encounters worked, it actually ended up being one the best features. Going through a cave, randomly getting attacked by 1,000,000 zubats was one of the most annoying things about older pokemon games. Now, I can pick and choose my battles, and seeing the pokemon actually moving around in the world is awesome.

The graphics in the game are amazing. Whether I was playing on the TV or handheld the pokemon looked great, and the animations for their attacks were even better.

Even the way that switching your pokemon in and out of your party is better. Instead of having to go to a computer at the pokecenter every time you want to change, instead you just open up your menu and switch whenever you want.

While the Pokemon Go catching aspect I dont truly care for, the rest of the game makes up for it, and I hope they employ some of these features in future games.

It betrayed it's core fanbase and killed my everlasting love for Pokemon forever. I have spent Tens of Thousands of dollars on Pokemon. From the games to the movies to the cards to the toys to the plushes to the DVDs to even board games and cereal. I thought nothing could crush my love for Pokemon. Nothing until this abomination was released. My rage was so infernal, I got expelled from my school. That's how salty I was. How DARE they turn my all time favorite game series with hundreds of years of lore, epic adventures, and fun for all ages into a wishy washy baby game that can be beaten by a literal toddler. This game has awful graphic while despite being on an HD console. it actually looks WORSE than Sun and Moon which were on the 3DS, a HANDHELD console which was less powerful than even the Game Cube. Heck, it might even look worse than XY and it's stunning Luminous City even though I hate that game with a passion. They censored all the interesting dark moments from Pokemon Yellow, the game which this game is clearly based off. They also shoehorned in awful, unresponsive motion controls. I have a theory that they INTENTIONALLY made the joy con motion controls awful just so they could trick people into buying the $60 pokeball+ controller which only works for let's go and nothing else. As well as that, to complete the pokedex you not only need to connect a new pokeball+ in order to activate an optional mew event, but also spend 100+ dollars on the equally awful app Pokemon GO in order to get the chance to catch the mythical Pokemon Meletan, and then pay a $10 transfer fee to transfer it to Pokemon Let's Go just so you can evolve it into Meleton, and if you want to ALSO complete the Pokemon GO pokedex, you have to pay another $10 just to transfer it back to Pokemon GO. Greed seems to be the sole thing motivating this game. The gameplay is shallow, the story is stolen from Yellow, already the worst Gen 1 game, brings up constant continuity errors, and the game being dumbed down for the non-existent child fanbase. Admit it Nintendo, you fanbase lies within the 13-30 market. All the children have moved on the trending games like Fortnite, Roblox, and Minecraft, and don't care about your games. The real fanbase lies in teenagers and young adults now, all the kids who played your kiddy games like just dance and Wii sports on the original Wii have grown up and are still trying to support you. The 12 and under croud just play Fortnite, makes slime, and watches vine complications, don't laugh challenges, bootleg kids cartoons, or Fortnite channels like SSunde, Crainer, or Ali-A. 0/10 Expand

    onto the game though:
For what it's supposed to be it's a 10/10 for me. It's a kanto remake with a long postgame! Evrery single interaction with eevee is the most wholesome thing on earth! The game is a little easy but not as easy as everyone is portraying it to be. I had some pokemon die a lot but not my whole team. the world looks absolutely beautiful, the music is amazing the pokemon scaling and them following you is what we wished for for years and now no one's even acknowledging it... why? I also love the removal of random encounters because in every pokemon game I found myself just running away from everything felling like my time is being wasted. I also surprisingly like the pokemon go catching mechanic!
A negative point is maybe the way the npcs move in cutscenes: you find them moving in one direction, turning and moving on instead of just going diagonally. And the 2 player mode really isn't as cool as it was portrayed in the trailers. it makes the game wayyyy to easy because every battle is a two on one. they could have easily made it so that trainers who have more than one pokemon would send out two at a time.
that's what makes it a 9/10 instead of a 10/10 for me because i was really hyped to play the game all the way with my pokemon loving friend that doesn't have a switch.

All in all this is an amazing experience and I'm not even remotely done with the main story!

Edit: so i played a lot more now and I gotta change it to a 10/10 because the game just got so much more difficult!! All my pokemon are underleveled even though i battled almost every trainer and caught a looot of mons! i had my whole team except one pokemon die twice and one of those times my Mew only had 10 hp left

--- very bad motion controls (Joycon)

Pokemon (Let's) Go, is basically Generation 1 pokemon + Pokemon Go combined, and generally for the most part it works pretty good, the graphics in some areas are a little lazy especially with some trainers clothing having just flat drawn on textures but this isn't the reason to play, its all about catching em all and Lets go gives the player to re-explore the Kanto region with the power of the switch, and new players to discover something new.

My biggest issue with the game is the poor motion controls, everyone has played POGO and had wild ball throws occasionally, well that happens just as much....if not worse in this game and it does get very aggravating especially during a large combo chain and you don't want to mess up losing valuable time in your hunt for shiny pokemon! But unfortunately, it isn't a matter of when it'll happen...just a matter how often it will happen and its too frequently - this is with joycon controls not to mention even some motion latency on making the gesture then a full second or longer for the game to register the gesture in-game which for a game that heavily uses motions controls isn't good and heavily lets the game down for me. The controller issue isn't a problem if you purchased the overpriced controller, which begs the question are the motion controls bad for that very reason?

Overall, Pokemon Lets go isn't a bad game, its charming fun and it has some nice touches here and there, but its not perfect and a few issues really hold it back from being better. I would honestly say, this is worth it for people like me who can't play POGO because of rural or in areas where POGO is difficult to play, this game is perfect for kids, easy to pick up and play but just remember, it isn't perfect and a few issues occasionally appear which add some frustrating elements.

It has some cute moments, and plenty of nostalgia, but standing on it’s own, it is the worst entry into the Pokemon franchise to date.

    The good:
I love how they've kept the ability to interact with your pokemon(well, at least with your evee/pikachu).
I love how they've expanded on the idea of utilising your pokemon outside of battle. Riding around on a pokemon that I have caught and trained feels much more enjoyable than having limited choices, and not being able to use the pokemon set aside for transport in battle of the likes.

    The bad:
No wild battles. Combined with the always enabled XP share, there is a severe lack of intimacy with one's pokemon, as there is very little need to train or care for anything more than the one given to you at the start.
Catching mechanics. They remove any kind of real depth to catching pokemon. All it is now is throw a piece of candy, and then throw your best pokeball(which you'll have hundreds of without ever buying any).
Your rival. He is possibly the worst part of the game. In the original first generation games, your rival was obnoxious, and was always pushing you to be your best, in the hope of beating him. Now, your rival is a pathetic coward, who does nothing but praise you at every step. He is somebody to be pitied. Not somebody to challenge yourself against.
Movesets. In every second or third city, you can find an individual who will teach your evee some stupidly powerful moves, which will ensure you never need to use any other pokemon, ever.
Difficulty, or the lack of it. Along with cutting out the need for HMs(though this was removed from S/M as well), the always enabled XP share, XP for catching pokemon being more than XP gained from battles a lot of the time, "story puzzles" being solved by NPCs for you, free revives and other items being handed to you all the time, and the powerful moves given to your starter, the game seriously lacks any kind of difficulty, or depth.

After putting some hours into this game its clear to see exactly what and who this game is meant for. While other games in the last have focused on battling and progression this series is meant to focus on the aspect of collecting. As for the audience, I expect most people to either be new to the series or veterans playing to enjoy a causal experience while strolling through a region that may have impacted their childhood. Also being able to play Pokémon on the TV is a big plus. Overall, if you don't think the game is for you then you're probably right but that doesn't mean it not for everyone. However, this is not the case and instead people are not only asked to pay full price of 60$ for a game that clearly comes from a handheld, but even worse, for a game that is in no way a definitive version of the first generation Pokemon games. The first remake, FireRed/LeafGreen, had much more content available for a lower price (and a free dongle to trade wirelessly and play minigames) but even the original Red/Blue/Yellow is giving Let's Go run for its money when it comes to the value provided. Add to that performance issues like unstable framerate or unrefined motion controls, and it's very hard to justify the price tag to anyone who either respects his/hers money or the series itself.
While I don't condemn changes made to the game's formula in Let's Go, there being no way to adjust gameplay according to one's preferences, like turning back on wild Pokemon battles, turning off exp. share or simply allowing the players to use the ProController, builds an image of an unfinished product, which stands out in a bad way among (mostly) great games so far released by Nintendo on Switch.

"Let's Go" lacks content and originality. They've taken the "GO" mechanics from mobile app which was intended to play for a couple minutes or even less and implemented this on a console that is being played for much longer, in short this felt very forced.

They've taken out the Safari Zone, Pokemon battles, and difficulty. This is the most expensive to date and has the least content

New players will have better luck playing literally any other Pokemon game. Veterans will find nothing of value here. 0/10

It’s not perfect, but it’s still good. Taking a step back sometimes is a good thing, you can’t go into a game with the “I-expect-everything-to-be-brand-new-or-else-I-hate-it” philosophy. It’s fresh air, in a sense. The reason you all hate it is the simplification. You overexaggerate that. Sure, I don’t like that wild battles were removed, but still, it’s a good thing. All in all, as long as you don’t have the aforementioned philosophy, which I don’t recommend playing if you have it, it’s a good game and a filler for the time till gen 8. Expand

A game that will unify the long time fans and newcomers, the bridge towards a new generation of Pokémon. I love this game, it's so much fun!

Overall, I did have a blast playing Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee. I did like visiting all the cities of the original Pokémon games again and seeing all the original Pokémon. However, I really did not like how they changed how you capture Pokémon and I did not like the setup of the Pokémon boxes. For those who want to play this game for nostalgia reasons, I would recommend waiting until a sale comes out before purchasing. For newcomers to Pokémon, this is a really good introduction into the world of Kanto.

It’s hard to make sense of the game that’s basically a Switch port of iOS/Android remake of Pokemon Red/Green. Is it a step forward, step backward – or maybe just a shameless cash-in? Turns out, it’s a great remake – the world looks exactly as we imagined it back when we were staring at black and white pixels of original Red/Green. [Issue#235, p.44]
