A really easy and really boring game. This is the first Pokemon game I have ever played other than Pokemon go. I have been playing games since 1980 and lost interest in games when Pokemon first came out. Using this as a yard stick I have no idea what the attraction is to Pokemon games. Even my daughter who I got this for got bored after one hour and wants to play Pokemon Go instead.

At least in Pokemon Go you get to walk around and exercise. This is the same boring game but walking around with a controller.

The Pokeball plus is so hard to use you will end up selecting the wrong option on the menus. I reverted back to joycon pretty quickly.

With JRPGS on the Switch like Xenoblade 2 and Octopath this is an absolute disgrace which is riding on the Pokemon brand, which I honestly can't see the attraction too. To me Pokemon are just a bunch of stupid cartoon sick (not cute) looking animals.

Save your money and don't buy this.

The complete removal of items, wild battles, and abilities also severely limit the game, making the majority of battles a cakewalk as long as players know type advantages and don't skip trainers fights. Also, the Awakened Stats system completely destroys the game balance, making essentially every team broken if maxed out.

Overall, it's a good enough recreation of my journey through Yellow all those years ago, however nostalgia can only carry a game so far, and sadly, I feel there could've been so much more added to satisfy both sides of this game. If this is you're first Pokemon game, of course it's a recommendation, otherwise I feel that unless you really love Kanto, you might be better off waiting for a discount, or waiting for next year's game all together.

I never thought Pokemon would go into a direction where things would attempt too be so different, but feel so much the same at the same time. Don't get me wrong, Let's Go Eevee isn't a terrible game, it isn't even the worst Pokemon title I have ever played, but Game Freak didn't need too mix Pokemon Yellow with Pokemon Go too make a successful Switch title.

I really enjoyed my time with the game. The reason why I'm giving it a low score, however, is because the motion controls are broken. Playing this game in dock mode cramps my hand after just 5 minutes, and catching Pokemon is so finicky and unreliable with the joycons even though I figured out the exact motions it wants. Sometimes you'll throw it off the screen in the exact opposite direction you waved the controller. EVERY time there's a half second delay between you making the motion and the thing registering the throw, screwing your timing and wasting Pokeballs. Play this game in portable mode at all times, it's almost unplayable docked, even if you lose access to the super partner attacks that come around which apparently only appear in docked mode, meaning the game is punishing you for not using its terrible controls. If they patch out the terrible motion controls for a standard point and click with the joycon like you get in portable mode, then this game would be much, MUCH improved, but as it is now, it's a literal pain to play.

I can only laugh at all the review bombers who only made an account just to give this game a 0 because they're so salty that their precious Pokemon decided to experiment for a game that's not even a mainline title. Don't believe any of the 0s here, they're all lies. The game is fun and a nice time sink, with it being mostly a perfect recreation of Yellow with some extra neat things here and there to try to evolve (hurr) a series that has been basically Nintendo's COD for decades. If they take the good things about this game and put it into the next one and refine some of the finicky stuff and COMPLETELY REMOVE THE MOTION CONTROLS, then the next mainline Pokemon game might just be something really great.

A switch remake of the classic Pokemon Yellow/Blue/Red (and to some extent, FireRed and LeafGreen, as these were remakes of the old games themselves), bringing the classic game to a 3D world.

    Story - 3/10
There was no real story in the original, and neither is here. We do get some little story bits, like a short story involving a Cubone, the general plot of defeating Team Rocket, but that’s about it. New good cutscenes for these parts do improve the storytelling. Still, don’t expect any deep story here. It’s just about fighting and catching Pokemon.

    Sound - 8/10
I'm not a big fan of the regular 8-bit Pokemon music, but I have to admit that in this game, some tracks were really nice. The classic tunes from the original games got new versions remade with actual instruments which really sound great at times and sometimes I even caught myself humming to the tunes.

    Graphics & character models - 7/10
Compared to modern titles, the graphics could be better, but compared to the old titles, the graphics are pretty good. It’s definitely good enough for its purpose, and has its charm. I also really liked how some of the models of the Poke-trainers looked.

    General gameplay - 6/10
Really, not much changed. It’s still mostly the old game. Many people have complained the lack of newer mechanics present in newer Pokemon titles in the game, which makes no sense to me, since, as a remake of the classic game, it makes sense to not have those new mechanics here. Deal with it.

The new catching mechanic - 6/10
In general, I really like the idea of having separate mechanics for fighting Pokemon trainers and catching wild Pokemon, as it adds variety. The usual ‘beat a wild Pokemon up until almost dead and then throw a Pokeball’ is replaced by a ‘throw a Pokeball like in Pokemon GO’ mechanic. And you even get EXP for that. Problem is, the throw controls with the joycons are very random. Throwing a Pokeball to the side often does not work. In. handheld mode, throw controls are much better, but the game actually gives you a throw bonus when you use the joy-cons. Yeah, this sucks.
Still, overall, I’m kind of fine with the catching and throwing mechanics. Throwing straight forward at least works most of the time and the new mechanic adds some needed variety.
Regarding random encounters, the game now shows the Pokemon as actual moving 3D models in the world, so that the old fear of running through bushes only to be jumped at by a wild Pokemon is gone, which is quite a quality of life improvement. Now you can avoid Pokemon if you really don't want to fight. Though, in tight areas like caves, avoiding the 3D Pokemon models is still difficult due to limited space. Therefore, in some caves, encounters with Pokemon will still annoy you and Repel items still exist for a reason.

About the difficulty of the game
The game is much easier than the original. All of your Pokemon gain EXP at once, and your main Pokemon (be it Eevee or Pikachu) is able to learn very strong attacks for almost every type from a new guy at Pokecenters. With this, you can pretty much oneshot almost every enemy. Since I don’t mind an easier difficulty as much as others, I’m kind of ok with this, but to be honest, it does break the game.
Other than this, certain other elements are also easier. For example, in the original, getting Porygon was rather time-consuming. In this remake, you just get the Pokemon as a gift from an NPC. That’s kind of… too simple.

    Post game content - 9/10
After finishing the game, you still can do the following things:
    - Fight and catch Mewtu (and the legendary birds, if not done yet)
    - Fight master trainers, who specialize on one Pokemon and will only fight a 1 vs 1 match against that Pokemon (e.g. Eevee vs Eevee)
    - Challenge all Pokemon gyms again (they now have stronger Pokemon)
    - Challenge the Elite Four again (they also have stronger Pokemon now)
    - Complete your Pokedex
    - Do some shiny hunting (apparently much easier here than in other games)

Personally, this is more than enough post game content for my taste.

    Random complaints about the game
    - You cannot use the Pro Controller for. this game.
    - In the attack menu, when pressing down, the selection loops. In the catch menu, that does not.
    - Bushes that have been cut reappear when the map loads again.
    - Cutting a bush takes way too long. It's annoying.

    Overall - 6/10
The loop of fighting, leveling up and catching new Pokemon can be quite fun and addicting, despite begin simplistic and repetitive after a while. My problems with the remake are the same as with the original: Having to fight trainer after trainer can become tiresome, some of the dungeons feel too long and annoying, and the story could really be better. Other than that, I found the remake to be completely fine. Sure, a difficulty option would have been great for people who want a greater challenge, but still, the game is fine enough and fun enough.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Since I didn’t play Pokémon FireRed / LeafGreen that often, I was quite excited to give this one a try. I have to admit, that I was a bit sceptical at the beginning, because of the changes which were made. Nevertheless, I still wanted to travel through Kanto once again.

First of all, I really liked the idea of having to choose between only two pokémon: Evee and Pikachu. It just felt refreshing to have a normal / electric type pokémon at the beginning, instead of the usual fire, water and grass types. What’s maybe a bit too exaggerated is the fact that your starter pokémon has the best possible IV stats. I get, that they wanted to make it a bit stronger, so that the players wouldn’t have troubles at the beginning, but they didn’t need to make the starter absolutely perfect. Usually, if you want a pokémon with better stats you have to build up a chain, by catching the same pokémon over and over again. That doesn’t only increase the chance of catching a pokémon with better stats; it also increases the chance of encountering a shiny pokémon, which is a fairly cool system in my opinion. Sure, shinies aren’t that rare anymore because of that, but I still think it’s better to be able to hunt them properly.

Another good thing about this game is, that you can finally see the Pokémon running around in the overworld, so you can avoid encounters more easily. Sadly the fights themselves aren’t that great. The traditional round-based combat system was changed to Pokemon Go’s catching system. The encounters aren’t that time-consuming anymore, but it just isn’t as exciting and sometimes really annoying. Especially the fights with legendaries totally lost their charm. At first, you have 5 minutes to defeat the legendary pokémon and after that you can throw pokéballs at it. I also don’t like, that you can now catch more than one of each legendary bird and that you can only get Mew if you buy the pokéball plus.

The graphics and soundtrack are really good, even though some of the animations could have been a bit better. It’s cool, that you can ride or fly with pokémon in the overworld, which makes travelling much faster. I also like, that you can now use all the VMs without being forced to let a pokemon learn it.

Sadly, the game isn’t as challenging as the older games, because every time you catch or defeat a pokémon the whole team gets exp, which makes training much easier. In this game the pokémon don’t have any abilities and you also can’t give them items, which limits your strategies.

To conclude, Pokemon LGP and LGE are games whose target audience are newcomers and fans of gen 1. Even though it wasn’t the best pokémon game, it still had its exciting moments.

    Pros:
    - Yes, you can box your overpowered starter if you would like. This decreases the difficulty significantly.
    - There are more trainer battles to make up for the lack of wild battles.
    - The roaming wild Pokemon make the world seem more alive.
    - Pokemon can follow you now, and you can ride on specific Pokemon.
    - (Applying to all Pokemon games) The difficulty is not as glaring of an issue, since you can increase the difficulty by: ditching your starter, having a monotype team, playing a modified nuzlocke, etc.

    Cons:
    - Friendly rival. No one likes the friendly rival.
    - They may have stripped down the game too much, eliminating core concepts such as breeding, held items, and abilities.
    - The wild battles were thrown out the window, in favor of a Pokemon Go style of catching. This is certainly not for everyone and I personally dislike it.
    - The game is significantly easier than other Pokemon games if you keep your extremely overpowered starter.
    - There is a severe lack of post-game content, and what little content there is consists of: grinding, grinding, grinding, and battling. If you don't feel like wasting your time leveling your Pokemon, the play time of the game will be practically cut in half.

TL;DR: This game is not exactly like Pokemon Go, yet some of the game mechanics ported over from the mobile game are not for everyone. The difficulty, although significantly easier than the rest of the games, can be changed by switching to a harder playstyle. However, I personally don't think it is worth the $60. Overall, a great introduction to the series and a very casual game. If you are a veteran of the series, though, you might want to wait for the 2019 main-series game.

It feels like a mobile version of Pokemon a Pokemon lite of sort. I don't have a problem with the changes I have a problem with what they removed. They could of kept the catching just make the normal fights like the legendary fights you beat fight the Pokemon and then catch them like the way it does now. The two player should make all fights two players there should not be a 2v1 when the enemy has 2 or more Pokemon. Exp share should have the ability to be turned off. Why turn off held items and abilities the whole point of abilities is that it added strategy to the game you had to be careful with certain Pokemon because they would make you poisoned or other things. Now I get this is meant for kids but this game is stupidly easy they might as well gotten rid of types because at this point it really doesn't matter I can trust Eevee or Pikachu to destroy everything. Another thing locking gyms if you don't have the right type of Pokemon or if you haven't caught enough Pokemon is crazy all it does is limit creativity with teams. All in all I like the things they added but I absolutely hate the things they got rid of and some of these things feel lazy because it would not of been hard to add them in especially the online factor and basic things like abilities. It's fun but it's hard not to feel like a lot of the current fans where neglected and it even almost feels like a crash grab. Now the last thing I want to say is that I know this is meant for kids and Pokemon was never heard but this another level of dumbed down. It's a good game but an extremely frustrating one

However as a Pokémon AAA title it falls short of shallow compared to it counterparts. My excitement for this game was looking forward to new changes to the story, soundtrack, gameplay and online. This was short lived however game freak did the bare minimum for this game and comes off lazy. Everything this game brought felt monotonous and bland event for generation 1 standards where my only true enjoyment was the fighting the the champion and the end. A big disappointment was a music it was uninspired. Pokémon has one of the best music in video game history but every song in this game lacked impact or “catchiness” Pokémon yellow and even fire red and leaf green did. The biggest disappointment was team rocket. I was hoping for expanded lore and story about team rocket and especially a DEDICATED TEAM ROCKET BATTLE THEME which I desired since Pokémon began and still they decided not to for whatever reason. But the biggest gripe is the new catching mechanics. Gone with wild encounters which I personally liked, but the new catching mechanic is gimmick incarnate. It is mandatory to use motion controls to catch the Pokémon which is already annoying as it is but they added Pokémon go style behaviors which means at any point the Pokémon will flat out flee. Of course this could’ve been evoided by having a standard wild encounter option in the settings. Lastly the battles, Pokémon has always been holding your hand Their games in the last few years but this takes it to a whole new level. They removed item holding which cuts a lot of depth in Pokémon battles. Pokémon gym battles have requirements before your aloud to challenge the gym leader which is inconvenient and pointless. Once you finish a Pokémon battle or catch a wild Pokémon you are given experience, not only to the participating Pokémon in battle but the whole party. This gets rid of actually using your Pokémon and building a team to your liking cause in the end almost all my party was the first 6 Pokémon I caught in the beginning but never bother to swap because their levels were adequate. The visuals are good but still look too similar to Pokémon sun and moon but that’s a minor gripe. When undocked the frame rate dips to uncomfortable levels in menus and in graphically intensive scenarios. Online is abysmal sit. Even bother trying to trade or battle this one. Unlike the already great GTS in other titles where trading and battling was so simple Pokémon let’s go devolves to basically linking via local connection or internet with a ridiculous passcode. this is way of connecting is very outdated and waste good opportunities to trade with other users. Overall this game does a lot of things poorly, however i still enjoyed playing it and I hope a lot of these issues are changed in the future via update or patch. Expand

If anything, this game is the evidence that the Pokémon fanbase is divided and is what Game Freak has been struggling with.

On one side there are those who love the competitive side of Pokémon: the ones that experiment with moves and abilities, held items and stats, and how they can make their favorite Pokémon the strongest they can be. Then on the other side there are those that simply enjoy seeing and catching Pokémon, playing the game just for fun without thinking about how useful their Pokémon is. The typical more advanced RPG elements are not important to them, as long as their Pokémon can defeat the Elite Four, it's all that matters.
This game is purely catered to the later half of the fanbase and newcomers that do not care, or even know about the competitive aspects of the mainline Pokémon games because they removed it all. Is this a bad thing? For this game alone? No. From the very beginning the developers have stated that this game was made for beginners and those who haven't played Pokemon since their childhood and probably only played Pokémon Go. Although, if they remove it all permanently for all future games, to me personally as a competitive player, that would be bad, really bad.

I'll start by saying that this game is incredibly easy, too easy for a kid that just learned how to read, even. For some reason, developers nowadays think kids are dumb, when it was kids back in the 90s that played Pokemon RBY that somewhat struggled but learned how to defeat Brock on their own, figuring how types a la Rock-Paper-Scissors work without someone having to constantly tell them and that was an achievement to be proud of.
This game is super hand-holding to the point it becomes infuriating. It doesn't help that your "rival" can hardly even be considered that, given the fact that he helps you more than challenge you. There's also the fact that your OP starter is all you need, regardless of what foe you face. it's like putting kids in their comfort zone, laying a warm, soft blanket over them and don't let them have a challenge they need to improve which, as the game goes on, makes the whole experience mundane and boring as there's nothing new, ever.
To make matters even worse, even if they had put in wild Pokémon battles, it wouldn't change the difficulty of the game at all. You carry ALL your Pokémon with you, at all times, which means that even if your party was severely wounded and you only have 1 Pokémon in your party standing and have no healing items to use, you could just swap your team out with a new one wherever you are. And if that wasn't easy enough, you can always play as 2 people and wreck literally any trainer in the game with a 2 on 1 battle. Always winning isn't fun.

The game also has major issues with performance. I always knew Game Freak was terrible at optimizing their games, but a game with upscaled 3DS graphics and 1k to 512 texture resolutions with no normal mapping should NOT drop in frames as often as this game on the Nintendo Switch. They even downscaled the shadows in hopes of fixing the issue.

Another terrible, terrible choice was the forced motion controls. How can you tell a disabled kid that got the game on Christmas that it can't play the game docked because it can barely swing the Joy-Con to catch a Pokémon or pet their Eevee? Or an amputee that only plays with their legs? This is a turn-based RPG, Game Freak, everyone should be able to play a turn-based RPG, everyone.

Despite all this, the game does have things I enjoy and wish would be a standard for every Pokémon mainline game to come.
Pokémon can follow you now, and be interacted with. Some even allow you to ride on them which is really, really cool, especially if you ride on a Dragonite or Charizard and fly to your heart's content. Fans have wanted this for a long, long time.
Random battles are replaced with on-map encounters. Now instead of constantly spraying yourself with Repels, you can decide yourself whether to encounter a wild Pokémon or not. However, if they decide to add this in future games, I wish they would also make some wild Pokémon aggressive and run/fly/swim towards you so that you have a reason to buy repels or be good at dodging.
Catching Pokémon is nice, being able to "immerse" yourself and throw the Pokéball instead of watching an animation doing it for you is great. However, they should absolutely not force motion controls. In undocked mode you can throw balls without motion controls and I still do not understand why they're forced in docked mode. Not cool.
The removal of HMs just like in Pokémon Sun/Moon is great and should stay.
Chaining catches to have a better chance of finding better and shiny Pokémon is neat! It gives a new meaning to mindlessly catching any Pokémon you see.

So in the end, you'll either really love Let's Go or you'll not enjoy it as much. I'm sadly on the latter side, but it's not a terrible game, either, it's just a bit boring.

-1 Star: Mandatory Joy Con Usage. This game does not allow for the Pro Controllers, as Nintendo wants you to purchase, and repurchase their $45 joy cons as they break yearly. As the joy sticks are extremely janky, they WILL break yearly, so you will be paying a reoccuring $45 payment to continue playing this game. There is really no good reason to do this.... well, apart from greed.
-1 Star: No matchmaking. Earlier Pokemons had matchmaking. This Pokemon, which is $20 more pricey and on a more powerful system, does not allow for matchmaking. Why not? Because the game was rushed.
-1 Star: Removal of passive pokemon abilities. There was absolutely no reason to do this other than laziness.
-1 Star: Removal of Held items. This has been in pokemon games since Generation 2. Again - Laziness.
-1 Star: Unable to trade between accounts on the same device. I want to trade pokemon with my daughter. I cannot. I have to literally buy two switches to do so. Because - Again, Greed and laziness.

So Yes. Great game, but greed and laziness have hurt it significantly. I will give it credit where it is due and grade it a 5 out of 10. It saddens me that I could not give it a perfect score, but there is simply no excuse to remove features which have been in the game for over a decade at this point. Shame on you, Gamefreak.

An enjoyable albeit short experience, that suffers from a lack of post-game content which has become a staple of the series for last 15 years.

If you love cute Pokemon and playing with motion controls, this is the game is for you. If you want the full Pokemon RPG experience from previous titles though, you're better off saving your $60 for the next release in 2019.

Most of the new / changed mechanics work surprisingly well. As a veteran, I didn't miss wild battles at all after few hours in (there are actually some special wild battles, you'll see). But your partner Pokémon is definitely overpowered, and you'll find the battle mechanics throwing some freebies at you (random attack evasion, paralyze healing...). One of the best additions is that basically DVs are now visible, which means you can quite transparently see if a Pokémon will be a good fit with its stats. Wild PKMN on the overworld makes the experience less frustrating and more engaging. Just as in the last installments, HMs are gone (subsituted here by your partner). Held items and abilities are absent, and this is one of the most tragic flaws to anyone who isn't a newcomer, since it removes some of the important tactical depth which really wasn't necessary. Graphics are neat, but could've definitely been better, and there is no excuse to why this runs @ 30fps. Soundtrack remix is well done.

Despite the lack of additional areas, there is actually quite a lot of endgame content. There are definitely more than enough strong challengers with the new Master Trainer system, rebattles and others. The Master Trainers could've been better implemented (you'll find yourself 1v1 Weedle @ Lv.65).

This is a decent, but foremost daring remake. Most of the newly introduced aspects are keepers, while we definitely want to get back our removed tactical layers. Local co-op is pointless as it makes the game only easier. There is no denying this is in some obvious aspects a watered-down, simplified experience, which also lacks (almost) all Pokémon of later generations. On the other hand, you get the best-looking Kanto with reduced frustration (no HMs, no random battles), greater variety of wild encounters, topped with some neat surprise extras. While FR/LG might still be more recommendable to core gamers, Let´s Go is worth checking out for any Kanto lovers.

But with the absence of held items, IV's, and pokemon effects (sturdy, poison point etc), it's just not there.

I probably wont play the next version, at least, not at the 60$ price point. Nintendo, if you want an amazing game, please bring back the end game for the hardcore fans.

A $20 price increase and nothing to show for it. Dumbed down gameplay (no more abilities, held items, or breeding) for a game that already wasn't hard, no graphical increase (at least nothing at all notable, it's just on a higher resolution screen now), and no end game just to name a few. - Your party is always over-levelled/over-powered making the game too easy
    - Poor online
    - occasional impossible to catch pokemon to break your combo chain
--- very bad motion controls (Joycon)

Pokemon (Let's) Go, is basically Generation 1 pokemon + Pokemon Go combined, and generally for the most part it works pretty good, the graphics in some areas are a little lazy especially with some trainers clothing having just flat drawn on textures but this isn't the reason to play, its all about catching em all and Lets go gives the player to re-explore the Kanto region with the power of the switch, and new players to discover something new.

My biggest issue with the game is the poor motion controls, everyone has played POGO and had wild ball throws occasionally, well that happens just as much....if not worse in this game and it does get very aggravating especially during a large combo chain and you don't want to mess up losing valuable time in your hunt for shiny pokemon! But unfortunately, it isn't a matter of when it'll happen...just a matter how often it will happen and its too frequently - this is with joycon controls not to mention even some motion latency on making the gesture then a full second or longer for the game to register the gesture in-game which for a game that heavily uses motions controls isn't good and heavily lets the game down for me. The controller issue isn't a problem if you purchased the overpriced controller, which begs the question are the motion controls bad for that very reason?

Overall, Pokemon Lets go isn't a bad game, its charming fun and it has some nice touches here and there, but its not perfect and a few issues really hold it back from being better. I would honestly say, this is worth it for people like me who can't play POGO because of rural or in areas where POGO is difficult to play, this game is perfect for kids, easy to pick up and play but just remember, it isn't perfect and a few issues occasionally appear which add some frustrating elements.

Additionally, the game is way too easy with two players... and with one player (but especially with two). Pokemon can have competitive play and truly interesting battle mechanics, but these are basically omitted from this version. If they allowed users to see more of this side of pokemon, I think it would have been received much better.

Overall, I did have a blast playing Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee. I did like visiting all the cities of the original Pokémon games again and seeing all the original Pokémon. However, I really did not like how they changed how you capture Pokémon and I did not like the setup of the Pokémon boxes. For those who want to play this game for nostalgia reasons, I would recommend waiting until a sale comes out before purchasing. For newcomers to Pokémon, this is a really good introduction into the world of Kanto.

It’s hard to make sense of the game that’s basically a Switch port of iOS/Android remake of Pokemon Red/Green. Is it a step forward, step backward – or maybe just a shameless cash-in? Turns out, it’s a great remake – the world looks exactly as we imagined it back when we were staring at black and white pixels of original Red/Green. [Issue#235, p.44]
