I have been looking forward to the release of this game since it was announced in a Nindies Direct. While I was disappointed that Pine was delayed 3 times, I was hoping it would be worth the wait. It wasn't. The game is buggy, has 3 minute load times, and the graphics are way inferior to the PC release even though the Switch can certainly run a game like that in it's full resolution. After patch 1.0.4 this game is playable, but performance is awful.
Hope they will finish, seems to be a good game.

Oh boy, where do I begin? This game has a lot of potential, but in it's current [released] state it feels like a pre-alpha in that it feels like I'm playing a concept for a game that will go into development soon.

Second, the controls are absolutely abysmal. The default controls are laughable and you have NO option to map the controls. The combat is absolutely broken with button delays up to 2 full seconds, as in, you will press the attack/block button and it takes a full 2 seconds before the characters acts, rendering the combat unplayable.

Third, the structure of the game is EXTREMELY sloppy, with poor direction, awful pacing, terrible map layout and a downright confusing narrative.

Forth, The game takes 2:30 seconds to load. That means the initial load time and when you die it takes 2:30...that's not exaggerating...that's ridiculous and a red flag meaning this is a poorly optimized game. Very VERY amateur

As I said before, this game HAS potential, but why they decided to release it when it's basically not even close to being finished is beyond me. I'm guessing they couldn't meet their deadline and they decided to cut their losses. I wasn't a KickStarter backer, but I feel genuinely bad for those who backed what is essentially a failure. I don't think they're scam artists, but I do think the dev team were WAY over their heads and hopefully this utter failure allows them to learn...or better yet, I hope they gave refunds.

Seems like a good game. Though the performance problems hold it right back. And make it unplayable.
I legit feel ripped off from this games company.
Graphics looked nice enough, on the pc version that is. This version the resolution and the textures look disgusting. It reminds me of the ps1 days. Npc's, foliage and structures dont even load in til you are right on top of them. This port

I have had rocks/boulders spawn on top of me twice leaving me stuck inside them, with loading an old save becoming my only option.

Loading takes between 2 and a half to 3 minutes waiting. Yep, that's no joke. Every time you die you must sit in a 2 and a half minute loading screen before you can get back to this horrible looking mess.
Framerate is very poor as well. In villages it completely tanks. Hitching happens during every fight as well. Sometimes during fights the enemy will literally vanish. Yea....
Also the shadows in this game are about the absolute worst implementation of shadows I have ever seen. Just, black blocks.
I'd love to know how it went so horribly wrong. Is it because it was rushed? Game engine? Lack of skills?
Anyway easily the worst performing and worst looking game i've played in recent memory. I feel massively let down.

Should be ashamed to ship a product in such a del boy state. Should be embarrassed knowing others in their line of work will see this. I'm not a game developer, but in my line of work, I make sure the job I do is done to the highest standard I possibly can. Maybe these people should do the same before charging money.

THE most unintuitive and clunky combat system I have ever encountered. It makes the game unplayable for me. I have about 10-15 hours in it, and I’m not going to go farther. Other that that game ruining mechanic, the visuals are better than I expected which brought my rating up one point. I honestly felt rather let down that I spent $25 on it. This game is unplayable on Switch, after the first level. The loading times are seriously about 10 minutes. And then I die quickly. And then it has to load again. So, if I play for an hour, then it will be about 50 minutes of loading time and 10 minutes of play time. I'm sure there are some people a lot better than me that won't die so much, but I can't picture anyone stomaching the loadThis game is unplayable on Switch, after the first level. I'll probably try it again after they release 3.0 or 4.0. It's probably good on Windows with a super fast machine, but it's really bad on Nintendo Switch.

I was really frustrated, because this game had a lot of promise. The first level and the story. It's basically a breath of the wild clone.

Pine has a lot of interesting systems and mechanics, but those individual pieces do not add up to a completely satisfying whole. While there is fun to be had with Pine's interesting exploration, many of the mechanics feel disjointed, with too much reliance on the game's collection-based economy. While Pine was clearly made with a lot of love, every good feature in is balanced by a mechanic that doesn't feel so great.

Pine is a game that we recommend with caution. Even after the 2.0 update, the loading times are still long. Overall performance has improved but needs more updates on Nintendo Switch.

The execution is as boring as everything else Pine has to offer. It’s a shame that the finished (or, given the technical issues, maybe that should read “mostly finished”) product doesn’t come anywhere close to living up to the incredible potential displayed by the trailer, because that game could have been great. This game, however, is in dire need of improvements, and until it gets those you can skip it pretty safely.
