    Your spaceship has had parts break off and spread across the alien world, so you have to work with the Pikmin to get them all back. Most of the experience is filled with breeding new Pikmin and preparing your army for big expeditions, which may see you traverse the land while carrying a part for your ship, or doing battle with a tough boss monster.

    Pikmin 1 is now playable on the Switch, and it has a natural HD facelift as a result of being on the newer hardware, but it doesn't offer anything extra or new beyond that. It's been pulled back out of the past and made available again, and that's it! And honestly, for a great game like this, that can be enough. [Issue #66 – July/August 2023, p. 18]

    The original Pikmin shows beyond any doubt that it's a timeless classic and one that can be easily enjoyed both by long-time fans and new players alike. The experience is pretty much intact and remains perfectly faithful to the original, in a now complete effort that sees all the main games of the Pikmin series available on the Nintendo Switch. With its unique combination of puzzle-solving and strategic planning, Pikmin is a marvel of a game that more than deserves all the attention that the Switch large user base can dedicate.

    A remarkable strategy game with Nintendo's DNA and tremendous personality. Despite not addressing some issues that its sequels fixed, you will find it charming and it may even leave you forever enamored with Pikmin.

    Pikmin 1 remains a delightful puzzle adventure that sees Nintendo at its most charming and inventive. Yes, this Switch port is a little bit underwhelming, with just a higher resolution and some new controls to get excited about, but with a core game this good, it's still an experience that comes highly recommended. Over two decades on from its original release, Pikmin's unique brand of magic remains undiminished.

Although some of the textures and character modelling don't hold up well in higher resolution, the general art direction still shines. Gamers are challenged to find as quickly as possible a number of ship pieces spread through four levels. The player should develop his or her own capacities of fighting enemies, finding the best routes and solving puzzles. Overall completion time for the main campaign is quite short, specially for veterans. Replayability is also a problem with just a few game modes. Nevertheless Pikmin 1 is a cohesive, addictive and unique strategy game that should be experienced by everyone.… Full Review »
