DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IF YOU DO NOT HAVE INTERNET ACCESS!
I bought this game on my xbox and on my switch. I am traveling with my switch version and I do not get any character progression, and can't earn or unlock anything because i can't connect to the servers.that takes away 75% of the game. Im still having fun playing courses. But thats all I can do.its fun on xbox though

I made an account just to rate this game a zero. It runs like absolute garbage on Switch, making it unplayable, without any options to tune down anything to improve performance. I want a refund.

No motion control on Nintendo Switch is inconceivable. The whole point of the golf game is the swing.

Absolutely terrible game. I've played all of the golf club games on PC and this is a huge downgrade. Graphics and frame rate is terrible. Assets like your player and the golf course itself won't load leading to just black areas. The downswing timing is insanely sensitive. The putting is atrocious. They need to fix this game ASAP.

For years I played EA Tiger Woods PGA Tours on PS. Tried out PGA Tour 2K21 on switch now, - how disappointing!! NO MOTION CONTROL! Hey, this is golf! Or should be.... But without motion control? Any bowling does a better job....

I love interesting game play mechanics and this game nails it! The Analogue stick being used to hit the ball is brilliant and is complemented by a lot of depth in game play.

For a sim golf, this is the first one I've gotten since the Wii, and easily the best. I typically head more towards Mario Golf, Golf Story, Wii Sports Golf, and True Swing Golf, but this has me engaged. The lowest difficulty doesn't require a college degree to play, and there are increasing difficulties that make it have depth as your skill increases.
Notably - even w/patches I have had black textures at times, the game is NOT bug free. If you have other platforms to play it on, you'll probably be glad to get it elsewhere, unless you want to play it on the go (then Switch is the CLEAR answer).
If you like playing golf video games PGA Tour is essential. I'm super happy I got it.

I have the game on PC and switch. Im rating the switch version a 5, the PC version I'd say is a 9. The switch version just crashed on me (again) mid round, super irritating. Also, it's slow, it hitches/lags and can interrupt your swing, no spectators. It's still fun (when not crashing) but overall disappointing. I got it on sale over black friday, I definitely wouldn't recommend paying full price.

They removed crowds and reduce things like trees to improve performance, but foliage-heavy courses really take a toll and will screw with your swing timing...they need to adjust this as they did with trees and other objects. But overall they did a decent job but hopefully they can tune it up a bit with patches.

The big problem, however, is that the MyCareer mode requires an online connection. This mostly just an inconvenience for PC/console, but is a big problem for Switch if you are thinking of playing handheld away from home. Just a really terrible decision that I'm sure 2K forced upon HB Studios. Also they got rid of offline societies for some ridiculous reason. Regular societies still need an online connection but at least that makes sense. You can still play offline, one-off matches by yourself or with friends locally, but that's about it unless you get online. Unless they remove the online requirement for Career mode and/or add back in offline societies (HB ARE YOU LISTENING???), this has almost no value for offline play. A real shame. Not a good sign for the future with 2K in charge of HB Studios now. At least the microtransactions are non-invasive........for now.

I give the gameplay a solid 8. The package as a whole, however, I'd give a 7 with the online restrictions, and a flat 5 for Switch since the offline really stings for a portable machine. If they fix these things I'd boost this up to the 8 that it deserves to be.

*Final edit: For some reason I just can't get a good swing from the Pro controller. No matter how hard or how often I try. I have this for PS4 and know how to make a good swing. The joycons seem to work fine, however. My guess is they can't find a control scheme that works for both the joycons and more standard controllers like the Pro, or can't dynamically change between the two. Whatever the reason, it's not ideal, but my recommendation is to stick with only the joycons and you'll be able to find a bit of consistency.

Final final Edit: Latest update makes even the joycons unplayable. I get the same two results on the swing meter no matter what I do, neither in the center... not once in hundreds of tries. Calibration does nothing. Uninstalling and giving up on this game. Stay away. Buy on one of the other platforms.

Also, each time you start the game or take the console out of sleep you need to agree again for connecting to your Nintendo account and you'll get an email each time! The cinematic clips between shots are choppy and have a bad shadow/light thing going on. In the gameplay this works ok, luckily. Some shot repeats have strange camera angles where you are behind foliage and can't see the action.

The basis is good and the game has a lot of potential but the items I mentioned and especially the online requirement dropped the score significantly.

I have only played in handheld mode, which is how I play most of my games on the switch anyway. The graphics are decent enough and there are no horrid framerate drops to take you out of the experience. Of course they made cuts with some of the scenery outside the actual course of play. It is also worth mentioning while there are grandstands they remain empty with no crowds to be found in this game. This doesn't kill the immersion for me but your mileage may vary.

Mycareer mode is here just as in other 2k titles. You go through various tours and work your way up. You have adjustable difficulties that you can tweak. You can change the on screen aids as well as your opponents level of play. It Is fairly adjustable and you should be able to find the sweet spot for your level of play. My main issue with the leveling system in this mode is that your created player doesn't necessarily get better skills just better equipment. There is no strong sense of progression as a golfer that makes me feel like my player is getting better at his short game or adding yardage to my drives.

The gameplay on handheld is actually much better than I was expected. There is no option for the "3-click system" of golfing that is available in other titles. All golf shots are done with the analog sticks. Pulling back and pushing forward in a fluid motion is key to this. The joycons actually feel pretty natural with this mechanic. I would probably prefer the 3-click system on the handheld but the joycons do an adequate job so that I don't hate it and actually enjoy it. Luckily there is instant feedback for your swing to see what needs to be done.

The biggest drop for 2k here for me is something that should have been expected as it is an issue across their games. During my player mode you better have constant internet connection or your not going to progress. It is such a shortsighted error on their part when porting this to switch. Hopefully this can be patched somehow but I doubt we will see it happen. Another issue I found in Myplayer mode (which may go across other modes). Is the game would crash when loading up tournaments from time to time. It never crashed when in the middle of a round but would routinely crash while loading up the next tournament after just finishing one. I would expect this to get patched quickly.

In short this is a very playable game of golf on the Switch. The switch holds it back in terms of graphics but the performance is smooth. The faults are evident but they are not game breaking for those looking for a solid round. I look forward to diving into the course creator and attempting to make some of my local courses.

For now PGA Tour 2K21 for switch comes in at a 7/10 for me. If they patch up the online connectivity issue and the routine crashes this would easily be an 8/10.

There’s also pretty good player customization. You can create just about any type of player & clothing, etc. You can also create your own courses. This is a bit challenging on the Switch- and I don’t know if it’s better on other machines. Cons- The number 1 con for me is that you have to have an internet connection to play. I recently tried playing on an airplane and it would not let me play the game. This is very limiting and annoying. The number 2 con is that when you hit it in the fairway rough they only allow you to use a 5 iron in terms of hitting for distance. This is not realistic at all for PGA players who could easily hit woods from the rough for much greater distances. The 3rd con is that every once in a while it will randomly cause you to shank it short- and often into the water. I’m hitting exactly like I do all of the time- but it just randomly shanks it on me. Overall though, I like the game and have fun playing it. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than say Mario Golf Super Rush. This is the first golf game I’ve played in probably 10 years and I would recommend it as long as you are aware of some of the cons- especially having to have an internet connection to play. Expand

Sometimes the computer picks an inappropriate club for you when teeing off: it seems to prefer a 3 Wood rather than a Driver even when you’re facing a very long straight fairway, and on one short Par 3, it’s given me a 3 wood to get to the hole when an iron would be far more appropriate. This can be overridden, but anyone new to golf is going to find this tough.

The graphics, however, are dire. The player models (particularly their faces) are absolutely horrifying. In many long shots there’s no shadow under the player, shadows from trees melt into view as you’re watching the ball fly through the air, the shots of the scenery between holes has awful aliasing/jaggie problems, close-up cut scenes of the player dip to below 15fps. The list is endless… this is not a good looking game at all and I can see why the developer has chosen to disable video capture (however, you can still take screenshots).

It’s also one of those awful games (we don’t see as often on the Switch) full of micro-transactions. Your player is deliberately dressed in terrible-looking clothing; any other clothing choices have to be paid for with real money.

Finally, for reasons I can’t even fathom, you need to be online to play this game… even if you’re just playing a single-player career match.

I got it for £12 in a sale… I wouldn’t pay a penny more, and I have severe doubts the inevitable 2K22 will be any better.

Huge selection of official and user created courses on day one and the commentary / presentation are top notch. GFX are a big downgrade though with some sharp jaggies and blurry tree textures, plus slowdown during cinematics and flyby cameras (but thankfully NOT during the actual game play). After about 5 hours play, I've not experienced the crashes or assets not loading that others have seen - perhaps the day one patch helped? The biggest drawback really is the always online requirement for career play - if you plan to play hand held and don't have access to wifi / a phone hot spot link, that could be a deal breaker. I tend to play in places with wifi access so doesn't affect me but I would drop a couple of points if that weren't the case.

Overall great to play, but not a looker and the online requirement could be a big issue for some.
