Masterpiece! I played the PS4 version and now playing it through the Switch! You want the best turnbase RPG game on the Switch! This is it! Persona 4 Golden has a slightly better story, music, and characters but this Persona 5 has the best GAMEPLAY!

One of my favorite games of all time, really. I bought the original on my PS4, and upgraded to Persona 5 Royal because I really saw how good the original Persona 5 was, and I really don't regret it one bit, got 375 hours and counting with New Game+ on my PS4. Absolutely amazing game, good story, good gameplay and just absolutely worth it all over.

I was super excited to finally play this highly-acclaimed JRPG. Unfortunately this is 75% dialogue, and there can be hours of that between actual enemy areas. Its a beautiful game and I did enjoy my time, but had to stop before I got to the 4th boss. The combat is fun, but ultimately too easy, especially coming from SMT5. Its not a bad game at all, I'm sure great, but not great for me

Quelques faiblesses de ci et de là, mais dans l'ensemble un merveilleux voyage qui respecte tous les codes que je connaissais de persona 4 golden récemment découvert également sur pc. Two things bug me a bit: The calendar "time limit" (only ** days to complete a mission) which leads to unnecessary pressure and the dungeons (palaces) seem to be a bit repetitive.

The story is extremely immersive and the characters have enough depth and diversity to keep you hooked.

I'd definitely recommend this game - especially if you, like me, haven't played Persona 5 before.

    Well worth the price!

The only reason that I did play through it was due to it being a free title with my PlayStation 5 on the ps Plus Collection. I was unsure about the series if it was for me so I always went back and forth if I wanted to spend the money on it.

By the end of my play though it held the title as one of the best games I have ever played. I have been holding off on playing through P5 Royal on the hopes that it would come to the Switch. Finally after waiting (way less than others who have been long fans) I have loved getting to re-experience this game and experience the Royal additions on Switch.

Definitely one of the strongest (if not the strongest) ports to come to the switch. The game runs excellent on the aging console. Returning to the soundtrack, art style, and tone of the Persona 5 world has truly been a delight. Running on the oled Switch is the best handheld experience with all the vibrant colors and style of Persona 5. I cannot imagine a better way to replay this or to play it for the first time.

My only critique is the slight hazy effect that is there when playing in handheld. You do quickly get used to it and the game runs very clear when docked so it is not the end of the world and not even enough for me to subtract a point due to it being more on Nintendo than Atlus.

Could not be happier jumping into this game again. I know some are frustrated that it is priced at the full price. Personally I don't mind paying the full amount considering my first play through was from the playstation collection. So I am more than happy to pay for the game to be on Switch. If nothing else it is a fantastic port that I think is worth the cost to show that people want Atlus games and the Persona series to have a permanent home on Switch.

It might drag on toward the end thanks to its lengthy story. But every minute really knows how to grip the player into wanting to push forward. The only issues I have with it might not be too much on the game's fault but rather some issues with graphics and pricing, Atlus still wants to market this and charge the standard price for this game even though it's a re-release of a game that came out for Playstation about five years ago at the time of writing (the base Persona 5 game came out in April 2017, Royal was 2020, but I still consider this Persona 5 at the end of the day). And the Switch has some of the lower quality in terms of graphics, models, and the like, but that's just a surface-level critique in my opinion others might expect more if they pay for something at that price and it looks rather poor, this doesn't really lessen the experience as much for most people due to the game just being overall fun for everyone, it's a great game and easily deserves some time if you're willing to give it that. I endured 20 hours of endless dialogue before I started fast-forwarding. That’s when I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish the game. I like the gameplay when you actually get to play. Reading all the text is exhausting, especially when it feels like the story isn’t really progressing. Not a game for me at least, but I can see what people like about it.

I just in no way can stand what it wants to be. It just simply isn't for me, no matter how many genuine attempts I make to try and like this kind of thing. I just greatly dislike it. My '5' rating is purely off of my own tastes and doesn't speak poorly about the game itself. Despite me thinking that the game itself isn't very good. People who like this type of thing, will love this game. You see, it's funny; if you say you dislike this game people get very angry with you. I realized while writing this, I was walking on egg shells. In all blunt honesty... People that like turn base a lot or this style of animation will adore this game. But I couldn't wait to be done with it. I want to give it a 3 or a 4 for how much I dislike this type of art style (even though it was well done) but I still find myself raising it to a 5 because the combat was fun! Expand

"Just what is it that makes this game better than any other average JRPG?" Is something I would ask myself constantly when I first played this game. The art direction is stellar but the turn-based combat hasn't added anything new to the formula, the story is written superficially, and none of these characters have depth that feels genuine. Attempting to get through it again with the port"Just what is it that makes this game better than any other average JRPG?" Is something I would ask myself constantly when I first played this game. So the answer is nothing. It's not.

Persona 5 hides how painfully average it is through flashy aesthetics and pretty art. Leaving out how inaccessible it is if you're not playing in a brightly lit room and get migraines from the saturated red that flashes every two minutes, it's a fantastic game to look at. It's visually pleasing right down to the fonts it chooses. This is the only aspect of the game that shines.

The story is at it's absolute high at the very beginning, it smacks you over the head with how power structures enable abusers to stay at the top. Which is fantastic but as the game progresses it constantly contradicts itself, reflecting how either the writers did not properly communicate or fully understand what they were commenting on in the first place. Any criticism of the story in Persona games is often twisted by the fanbase as they herald it to be the pinnacle of video game literature, accusing others of lacking media literacy while they themselves are a modern Tolstoy. This is why I gave it another chance... To see if they actually had a point.

As for the gameplay, while pretty, the dungeons require zero thought to get through. As long as you explore every room, you're bound to beat the "puzzles." Combat is vanilla SMT with watered down demon negotiations. The game is artificially lengthened by bloating it with repetitive dialog, drawn out subplots, surface level social simulation, and unnecessary mechanics that simulate how it feels to watch grass grow in real time.
The Switch port runs fantastic though. They did a great job optimizing it.

Persona 5 Royal is a game that succeeded in marketing something that seemed like it was more than it ultimately was. There's really nothing left to say about it.

For the rest of the game when you need to go somewhere you have a marker to show you, but for some reason on the first day of school the game wants you to go through so many different areas with no real help or direction. It put me off from playing it for 2 whole months. However recently I decided to get back into it after suffering from school and Zelda fatigue and oh wow there is a slew of amazing content to explore. Firstly, every character is super interesting. As a major fan of Fire emblem 3 houses, this game reminded me much of it, to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if many parts of 3H were inspired by Persona 5. Some of the characters, specifically Ryuji(who I thought was simply a random NPC that was gonna be killed off in the first place to raise stakes) Ann and Sojiro are fascinating. Kamoshida is a compelling villain with good personal stakes to the main characters. The next villain isn't quite as strong but still has a good presence. While I am only through two areas, I am consistently floored with the amount of new activities I discover. Between learning I could have a part time job, to making coffee that could be used in battles, to discovering the slew of interesting side characters and their "support" conversations, this is for sure one of the most well detailed story driven games ever. If you've ever played an elder scrolls or fallout game and wished that there were more compelling and interesting characters,I implore you to play this game. While I wasn't the biggest fan of it's turn based combat, especially because much of it is not explained outright but in long tutorial menus(which isn't such a bad thing as forcing the player to learn everything would have been a drag) but there is still quite a bit to it. It can also be quite difficult trying to reacquire personas you need for that one side quest with Caroline and Justine. I always find myself too easily killing off the personas I want to catch to fuse. However, these are minor complaints that don't take away too much from the experience. While I hate being one of the people to say "just get through the beginning bro it gets good later I swear," if you can brace through the tutorial there's an amazing game to be found here. 9.3/10 Expand

It felt like a visual novel with some RPG elements. I think all the time I spent 15 minutes skipping dialogs and cut scenes before I could play a little amount of time. 10 hours (skipping everything) into the game it felt like I was still in the tutorial. The amount of dialog was unbearable for me, in the first 30 minutes I started to regret buying the game.

There's people who love this game a lot. There is huge void of JRPGs after all. Not to mention, the game is EXTREMELY anime-y and that does well with the anime obsessed weeb market. Put all this together and I can understand why someone might find it worth it to power through the first few hours. And after that, I'm sure you'll LOVE this game because it just has SO MUCH CONTENT. Its like a love letter to the anime obsessed (who really ought to spend this time tackling a classic novel and develop some good taste and culture).

But anime (and a lot of its byproducts like visual novels) is really one of the lowest forms of art out there. And that makes sense because it is, in Japan, largely made for kids and teens. The Japanese equivalent of Marvel comics and movies. Which makes even more sense in Persona's case given much of this literally seems like the fantasy of a 16 year old boy.

This also explains why the sexualized 'waifu' females in this game are 15 years old. If you are a 17 year old Japanese kid playing this game, thats fine. If you are a 28 year old western male under the impression this game was not made for teens, its pretty weird to even be playing this and looking at that (although, given thats a possibility its a case against sexualizing 15 year olds, period.)

And its made weirder still given that this is essentially a dating sim for a fair bit of the time. In fact, Persona is a lot of things and no doubt that makes it appealing to the people who become so deeply engrossed in the game. But it also does nothing very well. Dating sim with 15 year olds? Besides being weird, the relationships are not particularly interesting either. Dungeon crawler? The levels are bland and almost seem randomly generated. Turn based JRPG? Refreshing in this day and age, but inferior in depth to DQ11, as well as in enemy design etc. Visual Novel? The story, dialogue and characters are simply not interesting enough.

There are some good things. The OST is FANTASTIC. The style of everything is also exceptional. Some of the dialogue can be funny, quippy, and quirky sometimes.

Overall, this seems like a game made for 16 year old boys to insert themselves into and experience a power fantasy much like western comic books. Its not meant to be high art, its meant to be popcorn entertainment. If you have the amount of time of a teenager, then the content here will also be amazing and I'm sure you think its a fantastic game. But for adults to play this and consider it to be amazing is just bizarre. The extreme amount of bland content here is not amazing, its a chore.

I didn't like this game at all. A typical low-grade anime where everything flies and flashes. In my opinion, the game is overrated.

The best JRPG of the last generation is still the best iteration of this series. Great art design, killer soundtrack, a dynamic turn based system. The list goes on and on. The fact that it is only available now on the Switch. Being portable is also a great benefit for this game, which is a very, very long one (100 hrs plus). A must buy.

Most overrated game! It’s got style but not being able to save anytime in the dungeons is awful design. Not interested in playing the same 45m over and over because the save rooms are so distant with a outdated mechanic. The whacky plot and concepts are only going to be enjoyable to particular niche so set any expectations low.

When playing with the network connection enabled (for additional features), the connection will randomly disconnect. And it can be a hassle to turn back on since you have to go into Config settings to re-enable it. If you're in the middle of story content (such as a school day), you can't access immediately the config settings to re-enable it. It was pure torture to play Persona 4 Golden on hard mode without a restroom, you get one shot by an enemy and you restart the whole run. That is fixed in Persona 5 Royal and it was so good to play. The combat of the Persona game is always pretty good and fun to play with, and with the gun added to Persona 5, it gives more strategies and choices for players to take down enemies. The other part of the game involves talking with other confidants, which was fun to play too. The music is very good, and the graphic on Switch is actually decent and very playable. The only problem I had was that I was getting wrecked by endgame bosses and I eventually used the DLC persona Izanagi-no-Okami, and I just totally destroyed the game. I feel like if you want difficulties, don't use this persona on the first run-through. It is so overpowered. Other than that, it was pretty fun and the whole game takes about 80-90 hours to complete( for one run-through). If you are JRPG fan, or you are an Anime fan, this game definitely worth your shot.

GRACIAS PERSONA 5 ROYAL TE AMO

Gameplay is divided into 2 parts: social and "dungeon". You go to school, work, attend activities, improve relationships, date. During dungeon part you fight. You use personas which you either "catch" or create with fusions. Each persona use different attack types and has different weaknesses. Each persona represents "Arcana" just like your relationships. Better relations with friend that represent "Justice" arcana will make "Justice" persona fusions better.

Oversimplifying: Like Pokemon game where "power of friendship" impact how well your subordinates will fight.

This is solid 7/10 mechanic but not good enough to keep you for 120h. What keep you is story and social links. Sadly in Persona 5 Royal (except a few) all social links are dull. E.g. in Persona 4 you focus on your friends: who they are and who they want to be. Persona 4 is about growing and accepting yourself.

In Persona 5 you focus on your friends problems. One guys is kicked out of sports team, other girl is worried about her friend, 3rd want to make medication. In most cases you just don't really care. Story is not bad but is not extraordinary either.

Persona 4 had 5/10 mechanics but main story and all sub-stories made it 9.5/10 game.
Persona 5 has 7/10 mechanics and 5/10 story which make it 6/10 game.

Persona 5 Royal is a title for every video game lover. The style and art direction have characterized it and finished establishing the franchise. Its arrival on new consoles will only allow more people to enjoy one of the best games that Atlus has made with this team. The only problem is its enormous duration that, for some, could seem unnecessary amid excellent character development that immerses the player in their world.
