Grab your gun, hit the streets and do what you do best: investigate. Pecaminosa blends the charm of pixel art and the mechanics of an Action RPG with the atmosphere of film noir. You have not seen and played anything like it. Interrogate suspects, explore a city dominated by crime and sin, and never hesitate to use your fists and guns. These are hard times in a very tough city.

Customize your character's appearance and equipment and have it evolve through the L.I.F.E. system, distributing experience points into four different parameters: Luck, Intelligence, Force and Endurance. Play Blackjack to earn extra money, visit the liquor store, socialize with the scum, visit the police station and the brothel, in addition to other venues recreated with great graphic detail… and don't trust anyone. There is a bullet with your name on it, and it's eager to meet you.

    STORY:

Welcome to Pecaminosa, a border city between the United States and Mexico where gambling, corruption and crime reign in its dusty streets. A home for all those who live outside the law... and for our protagonist, John Souza, a former detective, a man who lived through better times before finding comfort at the bottom of the bottle.

Pecaminosa does have a lot to offer; a rich world and an interesting cast of characters. Sadly the stale gameplay can hold it back at times.

The combat is simple, using controls similar to a twin-stick shooter, but that simplicity can get repetitive over the course of the game. If you’re patient, there’s something here to enjoy. How often do we get noir detective RPGs on the Switch, after all? But you’re going to have to be prepared to put up with a lot of rough edges.

Pecaminosa is a perfect little game to spend a weekend with. It won’t challenge you, it doesn’t last long, and the atmosphere is enough to warrant a look from any noir fan. I can’t help but feel like you might be better off playing it on steam, but you’d still have pages of exhausting dialogue to sit through. I suppose that’s all really subjective, but Pecaminosa misses the mark more than it hits for my money.

The game manages to combine a beautiful pixel-art game with an outstanding OST. Put that together with a simple but nice story and characters that overflow with charisma and you got yourself all the ingredients you need to spend some hours having tons of fun. The game is filled with humor capable of delivering a good laugh when you least expect it. There’s a casino that not only you can go, but you can also play some Blackjack. How ‘bout that?! The least positive thing for me was the linearity of the game and subsequently the game’s length. I’ve managed to beat the game in around 15/20h and it definitely left me begging for more. I think with some side quests could’ve have easily 30h of game time, but that’s also understandable considering this being the starting point of a small indie studio. Maybe for a sequel. Indie hidden gem. Definitely recommended. Expand

Pecaminosa is a 2D pixel art light action RPG specially made for those who like challenging games with 90’s game mechanics.
The story takes us to John Souza, a former detective haunted by the mistakes of his past. One day, he is visited by the spirit of the last man he killed, who makes him an offer he can’t refuse- the opportunity for redemption.
Along the way, you’ll get a mix of serious and wacky storytelling with a lot of clichés, mostly focused on advancing the story. Not the most elaborate one, but you’ll spare a few laughs along the way.
Graphics – The pixel art has its own noire personality. Characters and environments look nice and the game works quite well in portable mode.
Sound - Probably the best feature in the game with an excellent jazz ost.
Controls - In general, good and responsive, but it should have been made available the option to customize the controls as the dash button is sometimes hard to use. Hopefully an update will make it possible.
Gameplay - Varies between exploration, shooting and boss fights. The UI is quite nice with a 4 variable “LIFE” (luck, intelligence, force, endurance) mechanic in which you can upgrade your character when you level up. This mechanic allows you to solve some problems and obstacles in different ways, according to your stats. Travelling across Pecaminosa is mostly straightforward, travel from point a to point b, but still a fun experience with some funny quick dialogs and lots of shooting. Later on, some of the phases can get frustrating, as they imply going back if you are not well armed - bullets are never enough! - specially against the bosses. Also, there are some collision problems now and then.
Value - The game will last 6 to 8 hours plus some extra time if you dedicate yourself to explore every corner or take some time to play blackjack in the casinos. Not bad for 14,99.
All in all, Pecaminosa is a good game with some minor issues, some of which can easily be fixed. If you’re a jazz fan, like shooting and old school mechanics, look no further.

Since forever I’ve been a pretty big fan of noir-style stories, whether they be literary, in movies, or in games. The classic hard-boiledSince forever I’ve been a pretty big fan of noir-style stories, whether they be literary, in movies, or in games. The classic hard-boiled detective walking the streets of the seedy underbelly of the city, the whole nine yards. Pecaminosa makes pretty good use of this, with you playing through a sort of old school adventure talking to people and often needing to get a bit dirty in order to keep things moving along or settle scores of some kind. Mechanically it feels a bit dated, in line with the look, but that can also be a bit frustrating when you’d really prefer a bit more accuracy. If you’re in the mood for something with that general moody feel it’s a good choice, just perhaps not a guaranteed hit depending on your specific tastes.
