Okinawa Rush attracted me the moment I played it and dragged me in with its visceral, fast paced powerful battles. You won’t find a developed story or a stellar soundtrack, but sound design in combat is top tier, with each hit feeling like it’s forceful enough to crush skulls. If a dark, gruesome brawler that empowers you to be a badass is what you’re itching for, then Okinawa Rush is just the right scratch for you.

Okinawa Rush is a treat for beat-em-up fans and anyone looking for a challenge. Making all the endings and finding all the secrets guarantees many hours of play, even on an easy difficulty. Although it has its problems (the menu and the feng-shui system), it's one of the best games I've played this year.

Okinawa Rush blends rewarding action gameplay with rich and detailed graphics to worthy effect. The gorgeous pixel art breathes life into a vibrant world with plenty of hidden content that will have you rushing through again and again.

Okinawa Rush is definitely worth a try for fans of 90’s and early 2000’s arcade games. It has a very arcadey setup and is quite satisfying to play through. Harder difficulty will give you a level timer that you’ll have to constantly add to by defeating enemies – sort of like a survival mode. With only having five levels, the game is very short (only takes around 2 hours to complete), but it has a lot of replay value in its difficulties. It also has its own in-game achievements on the Switch and many of the achievements are VERY challenging!

Okinawa Rush is a challenging retro style game that is easy to play, but difficult to master and complete. A very replayable title, with a good story that we can enjoy with another player. A highly recommended proposal.

A love letter to days of ninja platforming past, Okinawa Rush is a tough-as-teak challenge that will keep you glued to your Switch.

Infused with the beat'em ups and platform games of the 1990s, Okinawa Rush is a resounding tribute to series like Shinobi, Kung Fu Master and Ninja Gaiden. Very neat and with a great visual and sound atmosphere, the Miller brothers' game unleashes a little uppercut. Displaying a sublime 2D and powerful animations, the title of Sokaidan also benefits from an ingenious progression system and very interesting ideas (dojo, training, katas ...). Playable in co-op, this is a little nugget that will bring back the sensations of yesteryear to many nostalgic fans.

Take the aesthetics of Double Dragon and Streets of Rage, add some combos from a Tekken or a Street Fighter game, and then you have a good idea of what awaits you in Okinawa Rush. The splendid pixel art, the detailed animations, the variety of the gameplay are in favor of the game of the Miller brothers, whose love for the ancients beat'em up is felt on many points.

Okinawa Rush is a fun albeit repetitive game whose nonstop fighting action shows why the SNES era was so great. Fantastic retro vibes in terms of music, too.

The game was good, but a bit buggy, and far too short. I really want to recommend it but I'd say definitely wait for a sale. If they fixed the bugs and gave us a few more levels I would say this game is a hidden gem that needs to be played. Full Review »

It starts with a small thing but the mapping of the menu button to advance is B instead of A, but then an all-too-steady drip of other irritants continue to emerge as well ranging from aggravating level design to difficulty identifying objects in the foreground versus the background (with lethal results) and an abundance of cheap death traps peppered about that break up the fun with aggravation. While perhaps a bit on the spammy side at times when you’re brawling with enemies the fun does emerge though, and though you may be inclined towards button mashing there are some moves you can use that will make your life much simpler and look quite cool. The result puts my feelings a bit in limbo, enjoying the good times, but having a hard time simply ignoring the bad ones. Give it a look and see where you may fall on the spectrum if you’re a fan of classic brawlers.

Full Review »
