  • Summary: Ocean's Heart is an epic top-down action RPG in which you explore a beautiful archipelago as a young woman named Tilia.

Take on contracts to fight monsters, descend deep into ancient dungeons, defeat menacing foes, and unravel the mystery of Ocean's Heart. All done in beautiful, bright pixel art.

Ocean’s Heart is a tremendous experience even with some rough edges. It’s evocative of the likes of Minish Cap in all the best ways and succeeds at being more organic and open than a lot of similar games. I’d love to see this game’s foundation build and grow because the promise is immense, but even if this is the peak of Ocean’s Heart’s developer Max Mraz, it’s still an enjoyable game.

Ocean's Heart is an excellent tribute to the Zelda era on SNES, but it also knows how to shine with its own light both in the pleasure of exploration and in the narrative tone.

Let’s revisit the question I asked at the beginning: is Ocean’s Heart worth playing? Absolutely. The low difficulty and complexity make it feel like Zelda for beginners, but that’s not necessarily a fault either. It might not reinvent the wheel, but Ocean’s Heart has just enough heart to make it worth it.

From start to finish, Ocean’s Heart is an enjoyable, albeit short, adventure following the familiar 2D Zelda formula. Having a brand new world to explore, filled with various side quests, should be enough to get any fan of that classic top-down template excited. While the writing and dialogue feels subpar at times, the familiar, yet still-solid gameplay makes up for it. Ocean’s Heart is undeniably a 2D Zelda game in all but name, but Tilia’s adventure shows that a game doesn’t always need to be groundbreaking to be a good time.

Ocean’s Heart is undoubtedly inspired by titles such as The Legend of Zelda’s The Minish Cap. Yet what it successfully re-establishes in terms of visuals and basic mechanics, it painfully lacks when it comes to the story, dialogues and gameplay depth. If you are looking to scratch that Zelda itch with nothing better on the horizon, Ocean’s Heart might prove to be a perfect candidate. But surely never forget – heart may sound like a lot but is never much without a soul.

Ocean's Heart is more a Zelda clone than a tribute, but it is, above all, a good choice for fans of the Nintendo license.

It reminds me of classic Zelda, while still being very much its own game. I haven't finished it yet, but so far I've really enjoyed it. The difficulty level is just right. The game didn't hold your hand, but it also doesn't punish you harshly for dying. The dialogue is well written and funny. The art and music has that retro feeling. I'm very much enjoying the time I've spent playing this game! Expand

It's a classic rpg hidden gem, You must give it a try and you will not regreat it. Top down zelda style game with way funier and better dialogues. Conversations and interactiones with npc do have a point. There is simple yet compelling plot with many side quests. Quick tip, do pay attention to clues because the game does hold your hand like other. This game encourages your adventure and exploration sense while rewarding you and make you feel really good about it. It made me grab my switch and not put it down like I hadn't in a long time. Well worth it. Give it a try and enjoy it! Expand

This game is pretty good. The gameplay is a tribute to good old Zelda, 2D or 3D, but it is a bit harder than an average 2D Zelda. The craftingThis game is pretty good. The gameplay is a tribute to good old Zelda, 2D or 3D, but it is a bit harder than an average 2D Zelda. The crafting system is a cool addition, and the secondary quests add more challenge. The performance is good. The UI/Menus are a bit heavy but clearly separated. The dialogues add some humour and we can find references to many things everywhere in the world. Expand
