Apr 20, 2018You won't find endless fun here, but you can play around for many hours before feeling like you've mastered the game.

LEVEL (Czech Republic)Jul 13, 2018Nintendo went against the stream with cardboard and scored. If you have children, do not hesitate. You cannot find anything better for Switch. [Issue#286]

Nintendo Force MagazineSep 5, 2018Your time may be better invested elsewhere. [Issue #34 – July/August 2018, p. 70]
-
May 23, 2018It's more expensive than the Variety Kit and although initially more impressive, is perhaps even more niche and surprisingly suffers from getting old much quicker. If you have a burning desire to unlock your inner Optimus Prime and have £70 that you want to throw down, then you'll be impressed.
-
May 7, 2018This interactive build-and-play experience will astound in construction and entertain in letting you live out your dream as a giant robot. But, it needed more content to make sure that it isn’t long before the magic wanes and you move on to whatever comes next.

May 6, 2018As a building project, Labo displays a sense of ingenuity that few things do, and as an introduction to design and engineering it’s clear, fun, and solid. It’s a shame then that the game itself is a little too simplistic, though allowing kids to stomp around a city smashing things may not wear out too quickly in practice.
-
May 1, 2018And that's just what Labo is at the moment: a great tool for creation, rather than for playing.
-
Apr 24, 2018While it may be more substantial than the majority of the existing Labo experiences, ultimately this is more an educational craft project than a game. As such, much of the enjoyment of Labo hinges on the participants enjoyment of making the Toy-Con itself. As for myself, I had a lot of fun building the Robot Kit, but I question whether it felt like $79.99 worth of fun. With only one project the Robot Kit might be best saved for Labo enthusiasts.
-
May 30, 2018The Toy-Con 02 is both fun and original, therefore it’s a good fit for parents who are looking to play with their kids. But the video game part itself is dull and repetitive and will soon bore both kids and parents.
-
May 18, 2018The Nintendo Labo Robot Kit is disappointing. While I absolutely adored the in-depth build and the creativity behind the Toy-Con Garage, the actual gameplay included in this $100 package simply isn’t worth the price of admission.
-
Jul 15, 2018Although the entire idea of Labo is to use your creations with the software, it’s a little disappointing that there isn’t an option to just play through the software with the Joy-Cons in a normal fashion. Echoes of the cancelled Project Giant Robot are haunting.
-
Jun 6, 2018Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 02: Robot Kit is a mammoth robotic beast to put together, taking a heap of effort, discovery, and a sprinkle of Nintendo magic to assemble. Through unique software, there's a sense of enjoyment and challenge, presented in an innovative way. Don that finished robot suit and there's a true sense of control and immersion. It's satisfying and ultimately rewarding for the hours poured into its virtual creation. There's potential for more mini-games beyond what's included, but the game does - for now - lack that longevity to hold interest beyond the initial wow moment.
-
May 13, 2018The Nintendo LABO Robot Kit is one substantial project that’ll take you half a day to build. It’s a satisfying project to complete. After you’re finished, you have a few different mini-games to play, but none of them will make you want to come back over and over.
-
May 2, 2018Labo has been labelled a gimmick by its harshest critics, and while we think that's a tad unfair, the Robot Kit does feel like something from the Wii era in terms of its throwaway appeal.
-
Apr 27, 2018The carton hardware is robust, the attached game is far from it. If it wouldn’t be for the training challenges and the workshop, this could have been a disaster.

May 4, 2018By building something you also invest in it and care about it, and in turn it makes you more likely to go on and decorate and experiment with it, which is clever. And when you do eventually discard it, you can simply take it apart and recycle it - no plastic guitar in a landfill here. It's as though Nintendo thought of everything (although I don't know if the cardboard came from recycled sources to begin with).
-
Apr 23, 2018It’s unclear how much Nintendo is going to market Labo as an educational toy but it certainly has great value as such. It not only stimulates artistic urges but making full use of each of the Toy-Con garages feels like the most entertaining science lesson ever. The potential seems limitless and while Labo may not be a video game – and in that sense will provide little relief to Switch owners looking for something new to play – it could well be the next big thing. For big kids as well as little ones.
-
Jun 6, 2018Delight is a challenging emotion to inspire in games, consumer electronics and toys — and Labo is some unholy combination of the three. And yet, Labo is full of delight. It’s cardboard, sure, but it’s stuffed with the best sort of intangible stuff. And it’s meant for everybody. This is a product that will appeal to young children, potheads, makers and teenagers. Nintendo’s uncanny ability to offer experiences that are so strange while feeling so good has rarely been put to better use.

Apr 20, 2018Punching, stomping and walking my way through a Star Fox-esque metropolis and destroying everything in my path for the high score, I couldn’t help being massively underwhelmed by the game itself. It’s an incredibly simple smash-’em-up where you simply have to destroy every building to earn a multiplier and bigger score. Lifting your arms in the air will make your bot fly, crouching turns it into a tank, and lifting your legs up and down makes it walk, while punching, naturally, punches. It felt like a mini-game from the ill-fated Star Fox Zero, and once the level was over, I had no desire to play it again. I hope the full game offers more for buyers than what there is here. You do get Garage mode again in this kit, though.
-
May 23, 2018The ToyCon Garage offers some surprisingly powerful tools for you to come up with your own creations, but you’ll need to put some significant time in to learn the ins and outs of them. Time will tell whether Labo ends up being a success for Nintendo, but it’s something I’m thankful for them attempting.
