I see this game as Magicka if the spell selection was NOT clunky. The adventure was a blast, and the characters were likable. Granted, the single-player mode was a bit frustrating at times, but not so much that I had to rage-quit. Besides, it was worth it just to at least TRY to unlock all the characters and staves. A wonderful dungeon-crawler game...full of magic, colours, cool characters, awesome scenary ect. - Sometimes it feels like a meeting of Diablo 3 and a very colourful magic box - and I like it very much. The soundscape....ohhhh adventure music of it's own, just the way it should be.
The game offers a okay single player story (you just want to unlock hats, staffs, spells, toons....) and

Very good job from Frozenbyte indeed - thank you for bringing this gem of a game to the Nintendo Switch. I'm looking forward for more content in 2018 :)

Okay, I don't think this review is premature.

I put an hour into the demo. I downloaded it last night, and played another hour this morning. This gorgeous, mythical, mysterious world that Frozenbyte has created, and how the characters interact with it... it's engrossing. It's SERIOUSLY engrossing. Now, I'm not gonna misrepresent the game and say it's as engrossing as a AAA game. I am, however, getting some solid Diablo 3 vibes off of it. So, think Diablo 3... but at Hogwarts. If you're a Harry Potter fan ALONE, this game is a recommended instant buy. Buy it now.

The game does have some fair flaws. I haven't played multiplayer yet, but in reviewing the dual joy con setup, it will be a bit difficult to control using one joy con each. I appreciate the "last chance", and that you can keep track of deaths, and friendly fire, etc. That said... it's kind of stupid that just falling into water IMMEDIATELY kills you.

Seriously? Students who are immersed in study can't just learn how to swim? I know that instant water death worked well in the NES, Genesis, and SNES days, but it seems unnecessary here. Maybe a breath meter or something? But I can also acknowledge the additional sprite and model work that would be required to change this. I also can't say I care for how easy it is to fall into some pits that also insta-kill.

This game is good. Seriously good. I think I found ONE parchment, with ONE wizard, and it's already worth the $20. I hope they make DLC. I hope this becomes a series. :)

    Game is freakin awesome.
Not sure Id play solo but for coop its very reminiscent of FFXIV when its boss fight time. Difficulty is good on hard mode, not painful nor boring.
If you played FFXIV Id gage the bosses somewhere between a normal level dungeon boss and a summon boss(hard). Not extreme mode. Youll probably clear them blind on the first attempt as long as you’re not a complete

Go back to WoW you liquid brains)

I play this with my fiancé no problem. Its not difficult enough that you cant keep going no matter what. And no you arent screwed, at all, if you dont pick the right spells….. Some people. Jeezus

It also has very good opportunity for laughable moments in coop, like slapping your loved one around with a wand is animated very well, and pretty damn hilarious. The friendly fire aspect is not an issue honestly, if anything its funny as hell and makes you pay attention just a tad more. Not major.

Its fast based back to back dungeons and bosses. That is a GOOD THING.
Open world games are slow dull and boring with exceptions of witcher 3 or conan exiles etc. Even ffx had done a little open world and was done good

Its GREAT this game doesnt have exploration. Even if you normally like exploring. Would buy again or part 2

Si bien se puede jugar onlie, este juego es una experiencia entretenida que saca todo su potencial en el multijugador local. Mi queja es que no puedes cambiar de personaje sin perder el progreso, lo que le baja puntos a un bien videojuego.

However, you will find that beating the game simply opens up more characters to play and unlocks new staffs that alter your gameplay a lot. Definitely the most fun I have had on switch.

Single player is a bit dull, it's far more fun in multiplayer as the encounters scale up in difficulty. Multiplayer also gives you the opportunity to access levels far into the game without beating all the challenges on the way to that level.

I started playing this game alone many months ago when was released. and I was kinda disappointed. so I stopped playing for a while. I pick the game again now playing cooperative with my family, and oh boy, its a joy!!!!!!! I have to say this game should be coop only. its so much fun to play . it might get a little bit repetitive, but it also gets more difficult and challenging. I just finished the game yesterday and I can finally give it a score. solid 8. I wish it has more depth and more character customization options. The ability to buy armor, clothes and other stuff like in a rpg. I really miss games like Nox. I wish some developer will create something like this with a couch coop mode. so my recommendation is if you play alone, is just an ok game. if you play couch coop is amazing !!!! definitely try it!. Nine Parchments is a gorgeous looking game. It's charming and addictive. I've been playing it solo and it's an absolute blast, you don't really need to play it with other to enjoy the game. I recommend it.

Nine Parchments is like a small Diablo, minus all the cliche fantasy doom and gloom–or, if you wish, like a less sedate Harry Potter. It's a game that focuses on combat, but very little of that combat is hand to hand: you mostly select elemental spells from your list and unleash a barrage of ice rays, fire bombs and electric projectiles on your enemies. You go from fight to fight, traversing mostly gorgeous environments, and you get a boss fight and a brand new spell every few levels. There is also a RPG-style upgrade mechanic, although it doesn't seem to add a lot to game.

When played solo, Nine Parchments is OK–but that's really not the way it wants to be played. Instead, it's clearly a cooperative game through and through. In that respect, it deserves more recognition as one of the best co-op games on the Switch. It supports mixed co-op, with multiple players on both the same Switch and online, and it provides enough challenge (and friendly fire mishaps) to keep any team of 2-4 aspiring magician busy for a while.

All in all, Nine Parchments is a hidden gem on the Nintendo Switch, and recommended for fans of cooperative action.

Kind of hard game but a good experience in co-op. Nice maps. We had more fun with this, than with overcooked 2

Great couch co-op and the graphics are super pretty. Some reviews mention friendly fire being annoying, but you very quickly learn which spells might bounce off the enemies and also how to position yourself so you don’t hit each other, it just makes the game more challenging and interesting.

With a stronger connection to the world and a more rewarding progression system, Nine Parchments could have been more than a fleeting arcade fancy. If you can find it on sale (which it has hosted many times since launch) and can wrangle up three other people, it's a decent party game that will fill a single afternoon.

Given that the PS4 version is 1080p 60fps, I wasn’t really shocked to see this half the frame rate but what impressed me a lot is how well it runs and how good it looks on the Switch. There’s a demo you can check out for an idea of the performance but with the latest patch allowing for no save overwriting, Nine Parchments on Switch is an easy recommendation for a co-op game.

Nine Parchments is beautiful and elaborate. It's also incredibly frustrating and unbalanced.
