    Ignore the "bad ratings". People are just complaining to complain.

    The game is perfectly fine, great side scroller and amazingly fun with Couch Co-Op up to 4 people.

    It's a wonderful option if you didn't play this game before. Great platformer, lots of secrets, different environments, great for multiplayer because it's really fun.

    It is a clear 10/10 game. Lets be honest players did not have the chance to play it on Wii U, and man... on switch playing it anywhere is really lovable! Great 2d Mario, great instant buy

    My favorite 2d Mario as of this moment, i have played hundreds of hours on wii u and switch, i really don't understand why this has a score so negative, the reviews say the game is "boring" mostly is the word i have been seen repeating and i assume are trolls, because most of them say things that are not real, like the game being "open world", what are you talking about ¿?.

    I speedrunned this on my YouTube channel. I enjoyed every single minute of it. I'm so glad that they kept everything from the original. The controls are amazing and definitely the best 2D controls of the New Series. I'm glad you can finally start the game with Nabbit, which makes it much easier to speedrun. Best 2D game of all time, for me that is. Thank you, Nintendo.

    A masterpiece! A beautiful remastered version of a game from the mediocre WiiU console. Now you can enjoy the fun anywhere you please playing as Mario, Luigi, Toad, Toaddete, and Nabbit. I highly suggest this game to everyone who has a Nintendo Switch and I also would say this is a great birthday present for your family member who has a Nintendo Switch.     This game is just beautiful. This game is great for people who never got the Wii U and have the Switch, but I had an amazing time playing it for a second game. They added Toadette and Nabit, and even combined New Super Luigi U with it.

    Game is so fun and has exploration/mystery/discovery mechanic in the form of Star Coins. The graphics and sounds are so much better than the style that is in SMM2. it's like a pretty nice modern continuation of the games we've loved such as SMB3 and SMB2.

    I already cleared the game and I've cleared 4 of the Star Road levels already and I'm having fun every step of the way.     I already cleared the game and I've cleared 4 of the Star Road levels already and I'm having fun every step of the way. There are a few frustrating parts that could have been improved here or there but for the most part it's been a spectacular adventure and I haven't even got to the bonus content yet! People recommended against this purchase but I have to tell you, they were so very wrong! I don't even think Odyssey will be as enjoyable as this game has already been. I'm definitely planning on getting Odyssey of course eventually. But my wallet needs more power.

    The game also improves my opinion of Bowser Junior. The guy is such a character and has been fun to watch on the screen. Also, I like this version of Toad that we get to play as. The Icy Flower is so much fun! I could go on and on about how much I like this game. They should continue making more 2D games. Great success.    … Expand

    Ok, so let’s be realistic here. This is a great game. Anybody who likes Mario platformers, playing this for the first time, and not afraid of a little challenge will enjoy this game. I have played numerous games for the Nintendo Switch and this is one of a select few that I enjoyed so much I went back to 100%. The reason for the low ratings appear to be because: a) it’s the same gameOk, so let’s be realistic here. This is a great game. Anybody who likes Mario platformers, playing this for the first time, and not afraid of a little challenge will enjoy this game.     b) people bought it again because they thought Luigi mode added new levels and all it really does is speed up the clock.
    c) it’s a little more challenging than they are accustomed to. The reality is that the original game got an 8.0 on metacritic, the game aged well, and new features were added to it. If you already played the game, don’t buy it if you’re expecting it to be much more than it was before. If you are new to the game, make the purchase, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.    … Expand

    I have only played the DS one before. People say that these games are bland and boring... But here is the thing. If you were asked to make a completely new NSMB game and what would you add. Most of you probably be completely out of words. So every single NSMB game is 11/10. Plus all of them add at least something new!

    I'm a huge fan of Mario games and this game was a huge astoundment. There is something about this entry in the 30 year old franchise. There are new characters in the game. They are Nabbit and Toadette (Peachette with the Super Crown). This game is a good spin-off.

    Este juego es excelente, quien dice lo contrario perdio la magia de jugar videojuegos o ni siquiera lo ha jugado, es muy entrenido y pienso que a todos los que como yo no compraron la Wii U deben darnos la oportunidad de jugar todos los grandes lanzamientos de esa consola que nunca me acabo de convencer. El proximo que espero es Super Mario 3D World.

    Me entretiene mucho, me ecnató su multijugador y mantiene su dificultad como se esperaba, puedo jugarlo con personas adultas o niños pequeños hay un personaje para cada edad, creo que si tienes un switch este juego debe formar parte de tu repositorio de juegos.

Toadette is an "easier" character as she has a double jump to get her out of tricky situations. Think Girlfriend/Boyfriend who isn't good at video games. These twists make it an enjoyable 2D Mario Experience. One final note. Luigi mode. This is a more advanced cut throat mode for super skilled players. Levels are the same but time is shorten and coins are in different areas. It gives the game.... a little spice. A spicy meatball

    Its a fun game with a lot stuff to do. Great plataform-based-game with local coop multiplayer...this game's one of best super mario saga ever made with nice gameplay plus tons of fun hours to enjoy.

    New Super Mario Bros. U remains a great platformer, and this "deluxe" release re-affirms that. This version includes the New Super Luigi U DLC, as well as new playable character Toadette. The new Super Crown    This is another Switch port of a Wii U game (I do hope that this is the last one, as it's getting a bit excessive in my opinion). Thankfully, it's also another port of a good game.

    New Super Mario Bros. U remains a great platformer, and this "deluxe" release re-affirms that. This version includes the New Super Luigi U DLC, as well as new playable character Toadette. The new Super Crown power-up can be exclusively used on her, transforming her into "Peachette", who can float, use an extra midair jump, and more.

    Both Toadette and Nabbit (the latter also being playable in the New Super Mario Bros. U story mode levels for the first time) seem to be aimed at new players. Nabbit in particular doesn't take damage from enemies and is only knocked back by stronger ones.

    The extras (where Miis are playable) are nice if you're looking for something different from the main story.

    New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is not the best Switch platformer, but it's still great and some fun can be had. If you haven't got the original, it's great value for money.

However, it's a port of a game that didn't innovate much when it was released in Wii U a few years ago, and it doesn't include enough changes to deserve the name "Deluxe". The best thing about the game is that it includes the levelsNew Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is a quite decent game with a good amount of levels (more than 160) that have good designs, and a lot of secrets to be found. However, it's a port of a game that didn't innovate much when it was released in Wii U a few years ago, and it doesn't include enough changes to deserve the name "Deluxe". The best thing about the game is that it includes the levels from New Super Luigi U, which is an amazing game, quite challenging and with very fast-paced and well-made levels. But again, you could already get the Wii U version with it, and at a much lower price.

    While 60$ might turn you away, the game is a blast to play. The controls are tight, the level design is great, and the inclusion of Super Luigi U is a nice bonus. I say it easily worth it's 60$.

    This was one of the few WiiU titles I did not play and I have to say that I enjoyed it, it does not have anything mindblowing or spectacular but it's enjoyable. Sometimes that's all I really need to enjoy a game.

    Never had a Wii U so got a chance to play New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe on my Switch. Played coop with my wife on the Mario levels and solo on Luigi.

    Pros: - Classic 2D Mario with everything you'd expect - Includes both Mario and Luigi (DLC) levels - Luigi - had fun getting 3 coins on all levels and the shorter levels were interesting Cons: - Mario - the coop was frustrating    Never had a Wii U so got a chance to play New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe on my Switch. Played coop with my wife on the Mario levels and solo on Luigi.

    Pros:
    - Classic 2D Mario with everything you'd expect
    - Includes both Mario and Luigi (DLC) levels
    - Luigi - had fun getting 3 coins on all levels and the shorter levels were interesting

    Cons:
    - Mario - the coop was frustrating playing with a casual gamer, lots of deaths by coop
    - Didn't really make good use of powerups or add anything new gameplay wise

    I never got the chance to play New Super Mario Bros. U on the Wii U, so I wanted to give it a go with the Deluxe edition on the Switch. This is the standard, side-scroller Mario platformer formula that I have loved since I was a kid. Although the levels aren't the most complex or engaging, the platforming is still fun and even sometimes challenging. My biggest gripe is the "physics" ofI never got the chance to play New Super Mario Bros. U on the Wii U, so I wanted to give it a go with the Deluxe edition on the Switch. This is the standard, side-scroller Mario platformer formula that I have loved since I was a kid. Although the levels aren't the most complex or engaging, the platforming is still fun and even sometimes challenging. My biggest gripe is the "physics" of the controls; Mario is floaty and can feel weighty. In this day and age of 2D platformers with tight controls for precision platforming, this didn't really click with me until towards the end of the game. Not so much a flaw, just a personal preference.

    All in all, I did have fun with the game, and I recommend it for any Mario fan, and for those who never played it on the Wii U.    … Expand

    I have played the original version of this game on the Wii U and enjoyed it then. And playing it again years later is still fun. If you owned just New Super Mario Bros U and not the Luigi one, this is worth it for you but double dipping in this game is worth it for me. There are other platformers that are more worth it like Celeste and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze but this isI have played the original version of this game on the Wii U and enjoyed it then. And playing it again years later is still fun. If you owned just New Super Mario Bros U and not the Luigi one, this is worth it for you but double dipping in this game is worth it for me. There are other platformers that are more worth it like Celeste and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze but this is still a casual experience but rewards veterans of the series like myself. I would say its worth it for people that didn't get the original and somewhat worth it if you already owned it.… Expand

    What can I say, if you played the Wii U version, than you know what this is all about. I have played it on the Wii U and I played about 5 hours of it today on the Switch. Same game, but still fun for the most part. Some levels are easy and some levels are challenging especially if you try to collect the 3 big coins. If you love Mario and are a fan of side scrollers, and if you never played it on the Wii U, then play this game. If you have already played it and aren't a fan of Mario and side scrollers, then skip it. Simple enough.… Expand

I haven't finished the Wii U version so I thought I might as well buy this game, plus it's a standard Mario game I can play while on the toilet taking a dump. U Deluxe, and New Super Luigi U. They ported this game because it is very underrated and deserves more attention and it did so. It's a great game for the family! It's one of my favorite 2D linear platform games, but I'm not a big fan of linear games, I'd rather explore a 3D world like Mario Odyssey. Also, the title for this game sucks, but it's funny, my friend and I always make jokes about it. Another complaint is that even though you have Mario, Luigi, and Yellow Toad with a pallet swap with Blue Toad, there are also Toadette and Nabbit which makes the game easier and unfair for the people playing, because you can't do normal difficulty with 4 people because only one person can be Toad with a choice of any color along with Mario and Luigi but that last person gets the unlucky pick with being an "easier" character.… Expand

    there's nothing actually wrong with the game it's self, people just didn't like it because it's too similar to the other new super Mario bros games. anyway, now it's on the switch, so the U no longer makes any sense

    I can see why and understand why people wouldnt want this if they already had similar game before.
    I always think nintendo switch games are over priced, if it wasnt for my son i would'ave waited until it got bit cheaper. On difficult levels i noticed you get a green exclamation    I play this game with my 7 yr old son as mulitplayer, we never had Wii U so its all pretty much new to us.

    I really like the level design a lot. Complain all you want about it being too linear, but it’s a 2D platformer. There’s not really a way to make it NOT linear. Platforming is what Mario is all about, and these levels make the platforming the most fun I’ve played in a long time. The levels are crafted in a way that makes it not too easy, but not frustratingly difficult either. The Star Coins are all hiding or require skilled jumps to reach. The water levels are Hitler’s favorite.

    The multiplayer is so much fun in this game. You can work cooperatively with your friends to complete levels easier or make it five times harder by fighting your friends all the way to the finish to see who can finish the game with the most lives. It’s just such a blast to play this game with your friends.

    The brand new HD graphics are absolutely splendid. 2D Mario has never looked this good before. Some of the levels just look so amazing. The first underground level with the crystal moving blocks just couldn’t have possibly looked any better, the water levels that aren’t actually underwater are some of the most beautiful Mario levels I’ve ever seen, that one level that’s a painting, this list goes on and on. Sure it’s nothing in comparison to Mario Kart 8, but is great nonetheless.

    Mario’s controls could use some improving, but are still excellent. The New Super Mario games made the controls feel exactly how you would expect the godsend that are Mario’s 3D to feel in 2D. The triple jump is so nice to land trying to get that flagpole 1-UP and I can barely even remember 2D Mario without the ground pound. When using a Wii Remote I don’t have to hit all the buttons on the controller if I forgot a button because everything just makes sense. I love moving around in this game.

    There aren’t many new power ups, but the power ups we do have are some pretty great stuff. In Super Mario Galaxy they absolutely butchered the Fire Flower making it a timed power up, so I’m glad to say that it’s back in action, killing Koopas better than ever. The Ice Flower is a great alternative that doesn’t instantly kill the enemy, but can kill those pesky Dry Bones you might be having trouble with. The brand new Acorn power up gives you the ability to transform into Flying Squirrel Mario. It gives you the ability to glide and do a huge second jump. Oh yeah, it can also cling to walls for a short period of time. There’s also the penguin power up, which is just the Ice Flower but you can slide on your stomach.

    The story is nothing much, as the tradition goes with Mario games, but it has more depth than the rest of the 2D Mario games. Once again Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach, but this time Bowser takes over Peach’s Castle and sends Mario flying all the way to Peach’s Castle to save her. Over time Kamek enshrouds the castle with fog, and it is cover in a tornado of fog by the time you get there. When you go into the fog the water surrounding the castle is now lava and the music is a remixed Peach’s Castle Theme from Mario 64 which is a nice touch. The bosses are the Koopalings once again and are set up in the same order as Super Mario Bros 3, Boom Boom and all. It even plays a remix of the Fortress Battle Theme from Mario 3.

    I know what you’re thinking. “If you liked the game so much, why did you give it an 8 instead of a 10?” Well, there are still things I dislike about it. World 1 is just full of boring grass levels that look the same, it has the same style as the last three 2D Marios (albeit with HD graphics this time), it has the same bubbly music, a similar lackluster story, and only brought a small amount of new content from the Wii Mario. I really wish this wasn’t the case because I like this game so much, but sadly, it was. This game could’ve improved so much if it had some new style, but otherwise it’s still a great game and you should definitely give it a shot if you enjoy 2D platformers.    … Expand

    A nice 2D platformer filled with nostalgia and with the marvelous multiplayer options which is a real gain here. To be clear, I played it 3 players coop all long, and that was a funny treat. In solo I'm not sure it'd be such interesting since the level design is not the greatest Nintendo work.

    Kind of fun but lacks the innovation of the 3D Mario games and can be frustrating. Not least because when you die it spits you out of the level back onto the map screen where you then have to re-enter the level, with load screens at every stage in between. After getting used to more modern platformers that put you right back in the action after you die, this system feels a bit antiquated and slow.

    - er zijn 3 baby yoshi's maar enkel de ballon yoshi is nuttig om te hebben. als je ze verliesd respawnen ze niet direct. spijtig want ze hadden de nieuwe Yoshi kunnen zijn (hij is ook in de game maar op dezelfde manier als in Wii)

The only flaw I have with this game is the pacing, compared to older games like SMB 3, the levels do not feel cohesive.     This incarnation of the game feels sloppy and unresponsive. The platforming that is a hallmark of the series is off and sometimes it feels like you are wearing mittens.

    New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is a quite decent game with a good amount of levels (more than 160) that have good designs, and a lot of secrets to be found. However, it's a port of a game that didn't innovate much when it was released in Wii U a few years ago, and it doesn't include enough changes to deserve the name "Deluxe".

    I'm a huge fan of Mario games and this game was a huge disappointment. There is nothing inherently bad about this game but there is also nothing inherently interesting or "new" about this entree in the 30 year old franchise. This game is just boring.

While some of them are hidden in interesting and unique places, there are also some which require you to find a random hidden block or area to get them, which can be quite annoying sometimes. Sadly the starcoins aren’t that useful, unless you collect all of them within a world.

    Graphics:
    While the look of the New Super Mario Bros games on the Wii and the Nintendo DS might have been novel at the time, in 2019 this type of artstyle looks plain and generic. There isn’t much variety in terms of background or environment. Even though there are different worlds you visit, the backgrounds will mostly look the same. In New Super Luigi U, they at least added some new backgrounds, which are more unique and memorable.

    Music:
    The soundtrack suffers the same way the graphic does. Although most of the tracks are pretty good, there also isn’t much variety. There are four times as many levels as there are soundtracks, so you can probably guess, that you will hear most of them multiple times.

    The Deluxe version also contains the two new playable characters Toadette and Nabbit, which are supposed to make the game easier by increasing the time limit. Additionally Nabbit can’t be damaged from enemies.

    While Super Mario Bros is an important milestone for the history of videogames, the newer games just aren’t innovative enough to be considered a great 2D platformer. Compared with Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe really isn’t that great with its repetitive graphics and generic level design.    … Expand

    This game was fun and silly, and often very chaotic. They found a way to capture the charm and difficulty of classic Mario games, though I do wish half the difficulty wasn't trying to operate with two players. I hope this isn't the only 2.5D Mario game we get on the Switch in it's lifespan, but if it is, at least it was a fun ride.

    Playing through with my friends 100% was a really good time. there are a lot of levels with pretty good design. getting the coins are as fun as ever. I'd Recommend Mario Maker 2 over this game though

    I never have found the New Super Mario Bros series to be all that great. I think it is a nice game to have for when family and friends come over as it gives you a different option for multiplayer games. For that reason, it was worth the buy.

Same here, but you do get New Super Luigi U, which is a very cool game, much better than Mario U. It isn't a bad game at all, but it just feels so bland compared to other 2D games, especially because New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the Nintendo CDS released just a couple months before hand. Too be honest, I even consider New Super Mario Bros. Wii to be a better game than this, it just isn't great, i'll give it a 7/10.… Expand

I'm also a bit angry because they advertised the Luigi u expansion as new levels. They are however the exact same levels as the main game only a bit more difficult.     It baffles me how you are still sent to the world map after losing a life every single time, terrible game design which they didn't even bother fixing for this port. Besides that huge flaw the game has great level design as expected from a Mario games, other than that it's the same old copy pasted visuals and sounds since the Wii days, very uninspired and little improvements.

    I kinda regret getting it but it can be fun at some points. I just have one big issue. THE CONTROLS. Who thought that making the spin jump the same button as the regular jump was a good idea.

    It feels like this game is before our time, the levels while being pretty average has little to no innovation in original concepts. I thought the baby Yoshi's were kind of useless, I did find the addition of Toadette and Nabbit was cool though.

    After beating both games on both consoles 100% (excluding challenges), my opinion of both games hasn't really changed.     Not up to the standards of modern day platformers. The graphics are nothing special, the gameplay is boring and it is too hard.

    I dont mind hard games and might have persevered if it was more fun to play.

    There is a character called Nabbit who is invisible but this obviously makes the game way to easy and sucks all enjoyment from it.

    The definition of meh. No particular level is bad, but they all feel the same and I never feel motivated to keep playing once I start.

    this game is really boring and generic i hate the nsmb art style like compare this to tropical freeze and that game is 100 times better in its music level design and art style

    i really don't want another 2d mario and i am still burned out on them i think it has to do that every 2d mario doesn't do anything unique if u look at other franchises they have way better evel design and art, i want some action in the backround of a level to make it feel more alive
    but i get the feeling i am playing in a world without live

    i guess its a fine casual game and i don't recommend playing 2 or more nsmb games back to back

    New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe is a port of New Super Mario Bros U. Neither are great fun compared to other Mario games, but U Deluxe feels worse simply because it's a port of 2 games with almost nothing changed. The characters are not very balanced with Nabbit feeling somewhat unfair. That being said it still is a 2D Mario platformer with nothing wrong with the gameplay.

    This is just a very, very disappointing port. It hasn't changed any of the problems the original had. The main problem tho, is the new power up, it's useless. Peaches crown changes toadette (the new character) into peachette. All she does is glide which is what the raccoon suit does which is the new item of this game.     This rip off of a port does have a redeeming quality: New super Luigi u. This gives us the same 8 world's, but with new levels and harder difficulty (something the base game lacks). This port changes nothing from the original and just shows again, how Lazy Nintendo are and have been for a while. And the fun dies even more when you realise that you are playing the same 8 world's from the previous all over again. Over all though, very, very disappointing. Nintendo need to start giving us quality again, which the series has been lacking (with exceptions) for the past over a decade.this is ofc my opinion and I recommend you pick it up and give it a try yourself before you judge.
    I will make it clear though, that I don't think this game is bad, BC it can be really fun at times.    … Expand

    It's unbelievable to me that Nintendo thought it would be fun for players to have to run Mario into every inch of level geometry looking for hidden star coins in order to complete the game. Then again this is the series that keeps shipping miserable water levels even though no human being in the entire 35-year history of Mario has ever found a water level fun. The only 3D models are the characters themselves and a few objects, the rest is in 2D. If you want Wii U ports that actually add new stuff to the games, get "Pokken Tournament DX", "Captain Toad" or "Mario Kart Deluxe". This and the Donkey Kong game are just lazy ports made to get a quick buck.

    And no, just because a lot of people never had a Wii U doesn't excuse it for being "new to them". It's still an old game and should be sold for at least half the price.    … Expand

In NSMBUD, every level feels like a cluster of assets with no rhyme or reason. Basically, every level could be easily created with little though, because of the distinct lack of purpose. There are so many games out there that are simply superior 2d platformers - The Shovel Knight Games (with Co-op); Tropical Freeze (with Co-op); Celeste, and Shovel Knight and Celeste are cheaper as well. If you love NSMB then by all means, enjoy this game, but if you are looking for a good 2d platformer, this is not the place to go.… Expand

    This game is a mess. I did bother to collect all star coins, and just to be clear: it was NOT worth it, because this game is so uninspired there was no point to keep playing.

    The only world I had fun with was the first one. The difficulty was perfect, however, levels became disgustingly difficult after second world onward. Those levels were SO HARD! The sentence in Nintendo E-Shop, saying that this game has over 140 levels is misleading, as the game has only about 80.

    I like that this game has challenges, however, those challenges are not very interesting. The fire bro one is quite cool, but I guess that is everything. I hope I do not need to mention that there is literally nothing new from the Wii U version of the game. It is the exact same game, except the Luigi U DLC is included for free. Luigi U is basically the exact same game, but it is way harder than the Mario version of the game.

    I have BIG issues with the gameplay. First of all, every single time you die, you get kicked out of the level completely, forcing you to enter it every time you die, and you have to watch a 3 year old animation again and again. Instead of this, they could just respawn you at the start of the level or at the checkpoint to save everyone's time. I died hundreds of times, so at least 15 minutes of my total playtime was just watching the animation upon death and entering the level.

    Another important thing to mention is the way the game saves. The game does let you save ONLY after castle stages. If you want to save anywhere else, you have to rely on a very unreliable system called quick saving. The system does not work properly and very often did not save my progress, meaning something like playing one level during a break at school is impossible, you ALWAYS have to play to a castle to save the game. If you want to save the game freely, you can do that only after completing the game. The fact that this exists is DUMB. And when you beat a castle, I find even DUMBER that the game even asks you if you want to save. The game should save after every level automatically.

    The way some star coins are hidden is very cheap too, especially ghost house stages, which always require you to randomly jump into walls, hoping you find them. The secret exits in them are very cheap as well. This game is simply a mess that nobody should waste time with.    … Expand

    It might be merely a return of a game that did not advance the series, but it was – and still is – the genre’s peak achievement. Sure, I could argue that boss encounters could’ve been more polished and the game could’ve looked better since Switch is more powerful than Wii U. A new world would have been a nice touch too.
