    Redeeming factors
-Different themed boards, including a Halloween themed board (just in time for Halloween) and a Rabbids board.
-It's still a decent party game to ruin friendships, just like the real thing.
-Knocking over game pieces and houses while rolling the dice without having to stand them back up and put them back in place is somehow satisfying.
-Fairly easy to learn if you're familiar with other Monopoly video games

    Biggest complaints
-The narrator is extremely annoying, Luckily, it can be turned off
-Loading screens that are on par with DOS games is unacceptable, especially for the Switch, which is supposed to have faster loading times
-No way to shake the dice that I know of if the control sticks are attached to the console.

No ‘skip’ button for the repetitive animations and the ridiculously slow-moving AI. So be prepared to sit around for hours just to get through one game.
Did the developers even play this before publishing? Absolute garbage.

Abysmal. Worst Monopoly game I've ever played. How do you manage to make a Monopoly game with no option to turn auctions off? Especially when previous versions for other systems have included that option. I'd like to be able to name the AI too, since they're given stupid names.

This game surprised me in a good way.

Someone below mentioned the long load times - I first experienced those too, but it turns out that you just need to restart your Switch. After that the load time to launch the game changes to 10-15 seconds (I timed it). It's really odd that this even happens, but I'm quite relieved that it's so easily fixed. After that the load time to launch the game changes to 10-15 seconds (I timed it). It's really odd that this even happens, but I'm quite relieved that it's so easily fixed.

The game itself runs quite smoothly, both in docked and handheld. There are different game modes, where you play classic Monopoly with classic rules, or you can switch (heh) it up and add action cards or house rules. There's also an addition of "living boards", where the boards have a theme, and the properties come alive when you land on them or purchase them. The visuals are really nice, and I the music is fantastic. I turned off the voices though, as I found them pretty obnoxious.

I noticed some input lag during the selection screen where you select your player piece, and I also think they should make the dice rolling using the joycons a bit smoother. It's pretty cool that they attempted to use motion controls with HD rumble for dice rolling though.

The online play also seems quite interesting. It wasn't very easy to get into a game, since a lot of players kept joining and leaving during the setup. Once a game got started, however, most people seemed to stick around.

In conclusion, this seems like a fantastic party game to play online or with friends, or just versus AI if that's your thing. Personally I think it's pretty great to have available on the go, and the presentation overall is quite nice. The price tag is a little bit steep, but I expect to get my money's worth over time.

I was happy to see a Monopoly game for Nintendo Switch until I saw the trailer. Turns out it's just Monopoly Plus with some added features. I wasn't a big fan of Monopoly Plus because of the limitations it had and how slow it was but that game was at least $10 on my PS3. The Switch version on the other-hand, is $40. Yep, $30 more. I wasn't a big fan of Monopoly Plus because of the limitations it had and how slow it was but that game was at least $10 on my PS3. The Switch version on the other-hand, is $40. Yep, $30 more. Now to be fair, Monopoly Switch does have more to offer than the PS3 version. You get three, "Living Boards" instead of just one, and you also get two, "Classic boards." The living boards are all nice and detailed and has unique properties and unique music which I do enjoy. It's the two classic boards that get me a little mad. The main classic board is fine, it's just a classic flat board we all know and love. It's the Rabbids board that makes me mad. That is the most lazy board I have seen in a Monopoly game and I wouldn't be so mad but you have to pay for the Rabbids board in the PS3 version. Thankfully it's free here but I cannot forgive it's laziness. It's the same classic board but with the Rabbids slapped on. The properties aren't different and neither are the Chance and Community Chest cards. The only thing different is you see Rabbids on the board and the cards. Sorry if spoiling a Monopoly board offended you. Anyways, other new things include unlockable tokens by completing objectives, and these new fast ways to play. You can pick a specific objective such as, build a hotel to win, or gain a certain amount of properties to win. This is a nice addition until you realize that no one will trade with you. If the goal is to build a hotel, why would anyone trade you something that gives you a monopoly? then the game would go on even longer in theory. Though I haven't tested this with humans, just AI players. At which it is easy to trade with and win. These new fast modes also give you these action cards you can use at anytime. You get three of them and they can range from almost useless to really helpful. The weird thing is, you can see everyone else's action cards. You'd think these cards should be secret and only you can know what these cards do, but no. Overall these new modes are alright but not something I'll be coming back to often. Lastly I wanted to say that I have had zero loading issues ever since digitally downloading it though I did experience a crash and I don't know why considering I was playing the game normally and the crash message popped up. This only happened once, but I only had the game for a day as of this review so it gets me slightly worried. During that day though, I played at least five to ten games and it only crashed once. But that one time was when I tried to play the game in handheld mode and not the other times when I played in docked mode so be careful when playing in handheld mode. Overall, while it's certainly better than the PS3 version, and more polished in some ways, it's not worth the $40. It's a decent version but I'd say wait for the price to drop to around $20. If you're looking for a Monopoly game, my two favorites are Monopoly Streets, and Monopoly Party. If you're looking for a portable Monopoly game, and you have a DS system, consider getting Monopoly DS. That version is faster to play, as well as give you more options for house rules and stuff. I gave this a 7 because of the price and the issues it's been having with everyone but it's certainly not a bad game. Just be cautious, at least for right now. Expand

It's Monopoly, but slightly faster and fun.

The main gameplay takes most of the hassle out and speeds up the game. There was just enough time to say something or grab a handful of chips between turns. The game worked great with 5 people on one Switch, everyone using their own JoyCon, JoyCon Grip, Pro and 8bitdo controllers. It automatically pulled player names from user profiles, or lets you use "Player X."

    Problems:

    * Guests cannot set their name, and only the first 6 profiles can be used.
    * The menus for selling, mortgaging and trading take getting used and slow down the game a bit.
    * The bus on speed die rules doesn't always let you see where you will land. (I wish we could move the camera with the joystick.)
    * If you forget how much rent you have to pay, you have to exit out of the menus to sell or trade to see the amount. (Showing rent on the left, unused part of the screen would fix this.)

I was shocked at how smoothly the game ran, my switch didn't even crash once. I immediately smashed every other game I owned (except for 1-2 switch, the only game which rivals monopoly in quality). Breath of the Wild has nothing on monopoly, nor does that stupid "Mario Odyssey." Monopoly is the one game to rule them all.

    Positives:
-Simple gameplay that is easy to pick up, but hard to master, appealing to both a casual audience and the most hardcore of gamers
-Spooky Halloween board that sent shivers down my spine
-Fun play pieces, such as the golden, spooky ghost!
-It's the Dark Souls of board games
-Up to 6 players for local gameplay
    -Up to 6 players online
-Intuitive mechanics that I have never seen before. Move out of the way, Sonic, Monopoly is here to kick your butt!
-Smart AI that can challenge the most seasoned veterans of Monopoly!

    Negatives:
-Friends for local gameplay not included. This became a big issue for me when i didn't have anyone to invite over :(
-Wi-fi router also not included. Became a big issue for me when I couldn't play online due to only having access to Internet at my library.

Usually, I go into a lot of detail and opinion in my reviews but how much could I possibly write about Monopoly. The game has been around longer than anyone reading this has been alive and has probably been on every major console in the history of gaming. The biggest difference now is that it is on a legit portable console. However, Ubisoft did not really take advantage of this.

I guess your expectations have to be a little different when you are playing a video game based on a board game. The first thing the game has to do be able to do is let you play Monopoly in a way that feels authentic to real life. I am happy to report that it does a very good job of this. Unfortunately, Ubisoft did not go much further than this in that it only gives you a few board pieces to collect through accomplishing certain achievements in the game and has a few custom boards such a haunted theme and a theme park theme. Other than that you do not get much else but at least there are options to customize your games and play with your own set of rules. The AI is also fairly competent.

Not much more for me to say other than if this is on sale and you want to play monopoly on your Switch than go ahead and pick this one up. You are getting what you would expect. 6/10 Okay.

I tried playing it with family and friends but the slowness of the game is a snooze fest.

Music and voice narration is fine. Beautiful graphics but it suffers from low frames per second at times, it's a minor issue due to the Switch hardware, but still it adds up to the feel of the slow game pace.

If they could update and make some options for speeding of the game by
    - Make dice physics faster or an option to use just instant dice roll randomizer.
    - Skip button on most camera direction sequences when it does nothing to the board game play wise.
    - Improve the frames per second esp. on living city and other graphics intensive boards.
    - Not sure if the AI contributes to the slow pace, but they should find ways to optimize it for faster gameplay.

I like the game, and I know Monopoly board game really does take time in real life, but simulation should have options to make it faster and with the modern game technology we have today. I just find it too slow.

I was worried that this game wouldn't run well or look good on Nintendo Switch. They really went extra graphically for a board game. The CPUs aren't very smart. The digital version of this game frequently goes on sale for a low price. Also, if more animations were skippable, that would be better.

Don't know why people hate on this game, the gameplay is fun, cool ost, graphically pretty good, the price can get really low sometimes like 3 bucks.

I was playing this game with my ex-girlfriend and it was downright AWFUL. First of all, the ENTIRE GAME is basically just a roll of the dice, which means you get completely **** through no fault of your own. This game was so bad I literally punched a hole in my wall when I lost 3 games in a row. The prison system in this game is downright cruel to players who can't roll a 3 and reallyI was playing this game with my ex-girlfriend and it was downright AWFUL. The prison system in this game is downright cruel to players who can't roll a 3 and really insensitive given how dangerous and oppressive America's prisons are. Just like real capitalism, this game is downright unfair and unfun. I broke up with my girlfriend for playing this with me and won't be buying any games in this series again. Expand

My friend and I wanted to play Monopoly so we bought the Android version for $4 each. Her phone couldn't play it for some reason so we decided to spend $40!!! each for the Switch version. We can't even finish ONE GAME because it keeps crashing online! Its 2023, this game has been out for SIX YEARS now and it's still buggy and broken.

With the load times, the cool but only once or twice modifiers and living boards that are all pretty much the same, it is probably a better idea, and a cheaper one, to just buy the physical board game, rather than invest in the electronic Switch version. Every know addition to the Switch's growing library is cool with me, but Monopoly is one you can probably take a pass on.

Monopoly for Switch does about everything right. The game offers numerous boards and you can adjust the rules to suit every need. And you can play the game where ever you want with up to six players. The waiting time with six players is long though.

Overall Monopoly for the Switch does the job it advertises to do, like Monopoly for many previous consoles. The difference is, with this console you can take on the go and play multiplayer without needing to carry around the board game and all its pieces. Is it perfect? Definitely not. Especially with my gripes that I mentioned earlier, but if you want Monopoly on the go the game isn’t breaking the mold but it gets the job done. The $40 retail price point is a bit questionable, but I have already seen it on sale in the past few weeks for around $20, which is where I say this game should have been priced and shouldn’t be grabbed for anything more.
