The only valid "bad" review I've seen is the 8 that wished you could lower encounter rates. That is a fair criticism. The criticisms about the "vtuber" thing just seem like trolling. I'd probably ignore them because it seems like they're lying.

I'm not mad at the price for what I'm getting. Trying to get a single GBA copy runs you about $60 so this is very fair, considering all they've done to the older games. It's disappointing to see people rating this game poorly die to system compatibility. No one's gonna rate TOTK poorly for not being on Xbox

Great game, great series, glad to finally have it on a modern system. Hope they decide to continue this series woth a brand new entry. Only thing that may turn off new players is the first game has some first entry weirdness where they weren't quite sure what they were doing yet.

Outside of that an excellent add to your catalogue of games.

My main complaints involve some minor bugs and choices with the collection, like why do we need multiplayer to still 100% these games?

Don't listen to the people review bombing this collection because it's $60 - even ignoring the multiple versions and the first game (which is really just a proof-of-concept), you get 5 games with full stories and incredible post-games. If you broke this down into hours-of-game-per-dollar, it easily beats most AAA titles released today.

That being said, I will probably give it 8 or 9 even I am even more aware of the issues mentioned by negative reviews, which is consistent with media reviewers. This collection is really dumb as it’s split into two, I thought after the Zero/ZX collection they stopped doing that but no.

The Mega Man Vtuber thing is cute at first, but when he starts saying the same boring lines over and over, it really gets annoying. Thank god you can shut him up.

The main selling point: PvP system kinda underwhelming, you have to use your own deck from in game which means that you’ll most likely get destroyed unless you grind for better chips.
It’s also super hard to find another player, and when you do there’s a huge chance for it to be laggy.

The games emulation is fine (excluding some weird localization bugs in BN6), but the lack of opinions really breaks it for me.

    - No speed up which makes random encounters still annoying.
    - Ugly font which you can’t remove.
    - No BN5 Double Team
    - They didn’t fix BN4 localization.
    - No wide screen filter (although i never use it), which has been in every Legacy Collection.
    - Wish they added missing games like Network Transmission

You might say I’m asking for too much but I paid 60$ for this, i was at least expecting a better version of over 20 year old games i can easily emulate.

It’s very saddening to see a great series Battle Network get reduced to this.

I hope CAPCOM makes more Mega Man games instead of these poor collections

Tons of features that the non Japan audience never got like patch cards for chips, story missions, new bosses, and even custom navi builds that give you new ways to experience the game are all included for their respective games. It's an absolute treat.

Most of my reviews revolve around a game respecting your time, so I bump off a point since not 'enough' I thought was added to help improve pacing. If you want to enjoy them, but emulated them like I did, you'll find that Buster Max mode can be turned off or on instantly before a challenging fight or a repetitive grindy one (mmbn1). You'll find patch cards in many games include subchips. Which means SneakRun, the combat avoiding items can be used to respect your time. Finally these cards add complete changes to megaman's playstyle where his buster has two separate moves like sword, gutsfist, elemental, and various other combinations for fresh gameplay.

Newcomers to the series, start with 2 for quality of life improvements, and consider dropping 4 whenever you feel frustrated. The reasoning? Game 1, has none of the polish the rest of the series gets (it has high encounter rates), and game 4 while the most purchased game in the series on release had some Bravely Default Loop-ass. The battle network series was about exploration and loved its npcs. Every characters dialog seems to change around whatever story based task your working on. Every area you log into gets some flavor text from megaman with the L key before his standard hint on the current task. The 'net' in every game improves and evolves all of them adding unique extra content and special zones with challenging foes and rewards. This is a delight if you enjoy action based strategy-lite games with deckbuilding themes.

Its nice having a one stop shop to play all of the titles in order and its very exciting for me as an adult to finally experience what I missed out on as a child. I completely understand the grievances with the full 60 dollar price tag considering that these are glorified roms and I agree that it is overpriced, but I'm thoroughly enjoying this collection all the same and am happy with my purchase. If you would rather emulate the titles, that's fine, I just don't like emulation very much and prefer to play games in an official capacity - whether or not you think that's dumb is not a concern of mine. In terms of the games themselves, some are better than others but they are all pretty similar. I give the series an 8/10 subjectively and 7/10 objectively. Points come off for not giving the option of full screen - yes I am one of those gamers that will gladly sacrifice fidelity in order to fill the screen and I'm not sorry. MMZ/ZX allowed me to do this and I was disappointed that MMBN did not. Also the extras were a bit lacking, its cool that we got trading and battling online but it would have been nice to receive some unique game mode like z chasers from mmz/zx or some representation for the anime - sort of like how the kirby dream collection included content from its anime. So far, I've been enjoying replaying these games from my childhood, but I'm not under the delusion that they are perfect games. BN & BN4 are a slog to play through for varying reasons, but BN3 has an incredible story and polished mechanics, and BN6 has the most refined and balanced combat of all of them.

It is disappointing that Capcom did not correct the poor translation errors in the English ports of the games, as some of them (especially BN4) are egregious. There's maintaining the original art, and then there's just being complacent with clear, obvious errors. Thankfully, they have addressed the few game bugs and crash issues the cartridges had back in the day.

To fans of the originals, this game is a fantastic product that could have been better for a few minor reasons. To newcomers of the series, pick up Vol.1 or Vol.2, since the digital copies are split and half cost. Try out either 3 or 6, and see how you like the series.

This collection is well presented and will please anyone who was dying to replay or experience the series for the first time. Megaman Battle Network Collection 1&2 are excellent packages with ample extras to keep players invested and just enough gameplay tweaking to smooth out any issues in these older titles. It's definitely not for everyone but as a Megaman fan, it is greatly recommended for its unique gameplay and style.

Despite my issues with them, I still adore these games. The chip tactics scratch my deckbuilding itch, but it’s not so tactical that it requires mental gymnastics to succeed. The story is charming in a saturday morning cartoon sort of way, and I appreciate the ability to access these games again on a modern platform. Capcom missed a few tricks by not adding a few quality-of-life and accessibility settings to make the games less grindy, but the series still holds a special place in my heart.

As far as retro compilations go, Legacy Collection is a fine addition to Capcom’s robust Mega Man offerings. With ten games to play through, all available additional content unlocked for them, and extras like online play available, there’s enough here to keep players busy for many, many hours. While it has been a while since the Battle Network series was wrapped up, these games remain fresh and innovative all these years later thanks to the unique battle system at its core. We strongly recommend Legacy Collection and hope that you’ll add it to your collection on Switch.
