Contra meets Shadow of The Colossus.

+ Challenging yet rewarding when you finally figure out how to take each Mech down. + Requires patience and a willingness to experiment and learn from each new death. + Focused design makes a welcome change from sprawling open world epics. + Addictive "one more go" arcade action - Character can feel "floaty" and imprecise - probably

    - Character can feel "floaty" and imprecise - probably intentional, but hope the devs will tighten this up through updates

Insanely disappointing game. Just stick with Gunman Clive. Feels very unpolished and has very clunky controls. Wait for a deep deep sale or just skip all together, it's just mediocre as mediocre gets.

I am only on the 2nd boss battle (level) but am really enjoying this game, despite how bad i apparently am at it. It is challenging, but its not cheap. you can figure out what you need to do, and how to do it fairly easily. The thing that i feel keeps this from being an excellent game is the controls. It controls fine, and is a throwback to the standard Contra or Metal Slug controls, but it could have been better if it incorporated a twin stick approach like something like Hive Jump did. It takes a while to get used to moving and aiming with the same stick, and it never really allows you to be deadly accurate. The game is well designed, runs perfect on Switch, and for the money has a ton of value packed in. Pick it up if you have an itch for a good shooter/boss rush game. Expand

This would be a great game if it wasn't impossibly difficult. A few simple tweaks would make it a lot of fun, but it's not worthwhile playing as it is.

This game is very underrated and I hope more people find out about this game. The boss fights were very addictive and there was a lot of creativity put into this. I kept replaying boss fights until I mastered them. I really recommend Mechstermination Force for people who like a challenge and for people that are fans of old school arcade games.

Super challenging but also super fun game. you will battle against giant robots. controls are good and very few times you die because of the game mistake. is most of the time your own fault. Ive been playing coop only and its great to share the hard levels with someone. I think for single player must be very difficult. Great price for the quality of the game.

Boss rush games are always a wild bet. Mechstermination Force wins it big time. It contains a fantastic array of wildly inventive, gigantic bosses, none of which looks similar to any other. The Contra-style gameplay is often though---but the game counterbalances even the most frustrating fights with its perfectly paced progression, its lack of fillers, and plenty of charme.Boss rush games are always a wild bet. Mechstermination Force was created by Bertil Hörberg, the author of Gunman Clive. It sports the same absurdist humour of his previous games, and more than a few direct references to them. In fact, the entire game and its storyline seem to have been inspired by the brilliant final boss of the Gunman Clive series. I'll wait patiently for Hörberg's next game. After three hits, he proved to be an author worth following.

Incredibly fun. The mechs are varied and inventive. Blasting off their armored parts and bashing their "cores" feels good--like you're really damaging these giant things. Being able to climb the mechs Shadow of Colossus-style is what really makes you feel like a boss.

Good difficulty. Hard, but not rage-inducing. (Well, the snake boss is frustrating near the end.) Minor complaints:

Minor complaints: repetitive, forgettable music; ugly hub world; difficulty ramp-up was a little uneven (some later bosses were easier than earlier ones).

Mechstermination Force is extremely dissapointing. In this review, I will compare it to Cuphead quite a bit because they are in the same genre, but I will basing my score based off of the merits of this game alone. Mechstermination Force is a bossfight/boss rush game where you have to take down giant mechs who are attacking the city. First, you must break their armour and then you must hit the big buttons located all over the mech's body. This game has an awesome premise but is so poorly executed. The controls feel horrible and it is hard to do even basic platforming. The game severely lacks polish and feels like a project made in the free version of Unity. This game's bosses resemble those of Cuphead's in their unique movesets but fall short everywhere else. The shop mechanics are also super wierd - you get coins just by playing levels, even if you lose. It feels like the devs want you to die over and over to get upgrades rather than earn them. The game itself doesn't feel that hard - the difficulty comes from the lack of polish and the mechanics that don't work with each other very well. Some fights require platforming, and this game is terrible at that. It is clear that this wasn't a cash grab which is why I still have respect for it, but the more and more I play the less and less I like it. Expand

Mechstermination Force is a terrific boss-rush adventure that grants a few hours of undisputed, frenetic, and fast-paced gunplay against gargantuan robotic titans. Climb up the legs and torsos of these mighty beasts and take back Earth. Up to two heroes can blast away these monsters to the backdrop of fantastic audio tracks, while using a plethora of the biggest and most damaging guns. The visuals look neat, and the action-heavy fights are pretty to look at. If one downside had to be mentioned, it's that this experience can be over pretty quick as there aren't a lot of MegaMechs to battle, and the three-star system used to replay previous battles doesn't feature any further incentive other than bragging rights.

Mechstermination Force isn’t the longest game, but that’s no negative, just an observation. There’s nothing wrong with cutting to the chase, and there’s also nothing wrong with a developer focusing on what a game does best as opposed to bolting on extraneous extras. This is a perfect example of all meat on the bone and no fat. It’s fun to imagine Mechstermination Force with actual platforming stages littered with baddies to blast, but ultimately it feels like Hörberg is a master at zeroing on in what best serves the games that he makes. The gauntlet of MegaMechs in Mechstermination Force sucks players in from the outset and never lets go. This is a must for any Switch owner.

Mechstermination Force feels like it comes very close to having a manageable learning curve. Quality-wise, it’s great, and a good homage to its boss-filled predecessors. However, there’s nothing more game-ruining than, you know, not being able to play the game. There’s hard, and then there’s hard hard, and then there’s Mechstermination Force. It can be done. It can be beaten. I just hope you have a spare hour or two for every boss, and some throat lozenges and ice water nearby.
