Mark of the Ninja is probably the best a 2D stealth game can get, with level layouts that require you to think of all the options and tools you have at your disposal to take down a guard or overcome a hazard. This organic feeling combined with a well done setting of mystery and darkness makes this game really immersive and hard to put down. You have tons of moments where you just feel like a badass killing guards and sneaking past dogs and many games fail to bring that bit of satisfaction in stealth. Mark of the Ninja is simple overall but it doesn't get repetitive because of the new settings or hazards in each new area. The biggest downside though is that there aren't that many levels. You can finish the game in like 10 hours and every stage has some replay value but not an insane amount. Is that worth the 20 bucks? When you can play the game on the go using the Switch: Definitely. Did not enjoy Mark of the Ninja at all. To much sneaking around and hiding. Price on Nintendo Switch was to steep as well. Fans of the sneak genre will enjoy this but action fans rather skip this game.

An excellent 2D stealth platform game that continually adds new mechanics as it progresses and doesn't overstay its welcome. I only wish there were more incentives to get creative with all of the tools available, get more creative, and take greater risks, because though there is a variety of ways to approach any given situation, the game makes it way too easy to handle every single task with the exact same strategy, with the only incentive to ever switch things up being if you're trying to earn a seal, but even earning the seals usually don't force you to switch up your playstyle for more than a single situation. But this game is still fun even when you're approaching every situation with the same strategy. Expand

A boring game from begin until the end. Same things to do, same kills....same scenarios....well, the game had great artistic visuals and great gameplay....

I had this game on my backlog for way too long, really dumb of me because this game is a gem! The game play is smooth and the stealthy moves are so cool! The art and story are phenomenal! And the ending is so awesome and just so very unique! Play this game if you have not already done so, otherwise, play it again!

    A game that challenges.
    A game that captivates history.
A game that makes you make a choice.

It is not the longest or most difficult, but it is extremely stylish and in some places makes you think about how to pass this or that fragment.

It was created in order to take it on a sale for a couple of evenings.

Bellissimo gioco stealth in 2D. Su switch poi è il gioco perfetto per le pause a lavoro. Lo consiglio vivamente agli amanti del genere e non.

I had so much fun playing this game. I typically love stealth assassination games, but I was a little hesitant about a 2D one. It turns out a 2D stealth game can be fantastic if done right, like this game is.

One of the best things about it is the freedom and confidence to do just about anything you can think to try--if you fail, you get to try again very quickly with very little fuss.

One of the best things about it is the freedom and confidence to do just about anything you can think to try--if you fail, you get to try again very quickly with very little fuss. It allows for a lot of experimentation and even during a particularly difficult part of a mission, I never really got too frustrated. The gameplay is so fluid and the assassinations so satisfying that there is joy to be found in doing the most basic things.

Different outfits and tools can be combined to sow the most terror, deal the most damage, or to simply escape from sight as quickly as possible. There is plenty of replayability and room to get creative. I prefer to terrorize the guards into shooting each other or falling off the edge of a building, but a swift execution after dangling above them like Spider-Man is fun too.

The story was inconsequential to me at first, but eventually I found myself going back to replay old levels while paying more attention to the plot. I found that it's really an interesting one that gives meaning to the things you do in the game. The free DLC content is a very nice bonus addition, as well, adding a little more backstory and forcing you to be a little more creative to dispose of enemies.

Overall, I couldn't find much to complain about. Was the ending the greatest? Meh, not really, but it was fitting. It's more about the experience of playing the game and accomplishing in-game achievements, or just accomplishing personal ones.

Great stealth game reminiscent of the Metal Gear Solid games, only in 2d. The story isn't great, but the gameplay more than makes up for it. Scenery gets a bit bland as well, but level design is good. Solid game!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love so much about this game. The art style is excellent. The gameplay is lovely.

The story is kinda lame melodrama, I think the choice at the end is lame and not at all what I was thinking. When I go to kill the imaginary lady, I'm not saying "kill self", I'm saying screw everyone telling me what to do, time for that crazy lady to "die" so I can go do my thing and decide who needs a hefty helping of ninja. Blindly doing what some lame hallucination says is stupid, bad writing, melodrama, lame. Especially with how she's like "After we kill Azai we'll cleanse the clan", WTF?!, how about NO, how about that dude stops blindly doing whatever other people tell him?

The game is too short, I assume because so much time/money went to the story/animations, all to create a lame finish to an excellent game.

The other main problem with the game is the skill/item progression. Most of the techniques you open up feel like stuff he should already be able to do. Limiting the amount of items you can carry is boring, it limits creativity for interacting with the world. Same with a lot of the level design. I really appreciate a tightly designed room space, but the way they limit you down to those choices takes me out of the immersion created by the art/sound design. It's like, so a ninja can't handle climbing over a ledge?

The smoke bomb upgrade is awful, incapacitating the guards sets off an alarm, that's not an upgrade and made me want to strangle the nice people at Klei for a second. The entire upgrade system could be removed and the game would become much better by just having those stealth kills and items as part of the normal game.

I'd also like to see these stealth mechanics used with AI level generation. If you get the parameters right on where a hiding spot has to be in relation to the range of laser sensor and many thousands of other factors it would become the best stealth game ever made. Instead of making new content I wish you would actually remake this into what it could be.

If you like ninjas, stealth games, comic art visuals in a side scrolling platform than this game is for you. Easy simple controls to pick up and go with, I would recommend buying if you see this game on sale. Great addition to the game library.

This is an amazing, fluid and well built 2D platform sneaky game.
Sneaky cause you better off to be sneaky to make your life easier in this game.

With plenty of challenge and freedom to play the way you want, Mark of the Ninja’s staying power as one of the best stealth games available is a testament to its incredible design. Packed with all the previously released content, Mark of the Ninja: Remastered on Switch is perfect for first-timers, plus anyone looking for another playthrough.

Mark of the Ninja Remastered is a great stealth game that fits nicely as a portable time-killer. The gameplay takes every stealth trick from Metal Gear Solid’s book and translates them into two-dimensions wonderfully well. With that said, if stealth isn’t your bag then this game probably won’t be either as the over-reliance on its wonderfully implemented sneak system may feel a bit too repetitive for some. However, mastering a level with an objective in mind did make me feel like the badass ninja that I’ve always wanted to be.

Beautifully animated and a dream to play, Mark of the Ninja: Remastered rightfully stands next to the greats of the stealth genre. Intelligent design choices build the foundation to what is one of this generations best releases, let alone remasters.
