The grand finale of Wave 4 is a bold, brand-new Yoshi's Island! It's an incredible original track that is a complete homage to the 1995 SNES classic, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. It manages to fit references to dozens of iconic characters and locations from that 16-bit masterpiece into its loop, and it's honestly the best such track Nintendo has ever made! It's pure delight from end to end for anyone who's ever played that game. [Issue #65 – May/June 2023, p. 24]

Mario Kart 8 is the reliable assurance of fun for any evening with friends and it is by far the best arcade racer across all platforms.

Wave 4 delivers more of that sweet racing goodness to this near-perfect game. It’s hard to criticize something so fun and fresh; in fact, the only obvious negative is that we’re now down to the final two waves. Let’s see what’s next.

Wave 4 features quite comfortably the best set of tracks so far from the Booster Course Pass, with only one proving to be a bit underwhelming. We’re loving the Tour additions, and Yoshi’s Island is destined to be an all-time great. If Nintendo keeps this up, then we’ll be in a great position for Waves 5 and 6.

Wave 4 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass is arguably the best to date, featuring serious glow-ups to fan favorites. The inclusion of the new Yoshi’s Island track would have been more than enough to steal the show, but the rest of its roster this go-around most certainly strives for greatness.

With the brand new course Yoshi's Island in all of its nostalgic charm, plenty of familiar tracks, and a few more Mario Kart Tour courses, Wave 4 of the Booster Course Pass provides a ton of kart-racing fun that anyone will thoroughly enjoy.

And because she’s finally making her debut in Deluxe, this review will be all about Birdo.

Wave 4 has continued to deliver, and as each and every wave before it, the courses lifted from Mario Kart Tour are fun additions, particularly with branching paths, alternative routes and reversed laps. It is particularly exciting to see new characters returning and having Birdo on the roster is certainly warmly welcomed. Yoshi's Island stands out in Wave 4, not only for being a new and original track but also for unique musical themes and being such a varied course overall. Subtle changes to DKs Snowboard Cross, Waluigi Stadium and Mario Circuit all make improvements on their original counterparts and Riverside Park looks fantastic. This is an enjoyable set of tracks and adds to what is an already fantastic package from other waves of the Booster Course Pass.

  1. Whether Nintendo intendeds to reuse it for the inevitable Mario Kart 9 is impossible to say, but perhaps there might be some hint as to their future plans once the Booster Pass finally ends. Knowing Nintendo, they’ll more likely keep their secrets to the last moment but it really doesn’t matter because combined with all this DLC it’s difficult to imagine how anything could better Mario Kart 8.

All DLC Wave 4 tracks are great! You can't go wrong with the classic DK Summit from Mario Kart Wii. It's nice to see Riverside Park return to Mario Kart: Super Circuit. Yoshi's Island is a very creative race track to race on. Amsterdam Drift has great music and so does Waluigi Stadium. Full Review »

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Since it's mediocre start, the booster course pass has been getting better and better and wave 4 is good one. It is definitely weaker than wave 3 as all of wave 3 tracks were quality (and wave 3 gave us 3Ds rainbow road so that already makes it the best wave of them all). Amsterdam drift is a good track but underwhelming. Lap 2 takes place in the canals of Amsterdam but there are no obstacles or anything in this sections which makes them pretty boring. Ds Mario's circuit, while still a good track, was also underwhelming. There was a lot of missed potential with Peaches castle. Why couldn't we go through it and then go backwards like we could in Peaches gardens? Bangkok Rush was clearly rushed tho (Pun not intended), they toom out the Ink Piranha plants from the highway section and other things.
Apart from that, this wave was great. The GCN Waluigi stadium remake was awesome and the GBA riverside park remake from Mario kart tour was also great.
Even though wave 3 was weaker than wave 3, it's still a great one and it made sense that the tracks were easy as those wave 4 cups are essentially the green shell and banana cups. 8.5/10.
