    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay. Just okay. The only real complaint I have about this is the texture difference between the base game and these tracks. I understand porting from Tour is convenient, but when you remember Tour’s assets are just downgraded from 8 it doesn’t seem to make sense. They did this for a reason, though, as 8 Deluxe’s version of Coconut Mall reappears in Tour, and Sky-High Sundae was later released a few days before it’s inclusion in Tour. I do find it interesting Nintendo’s simultaneously developing tracks for both games, and while that makes Tour’s tracks a step up in quality, it brings 8 Deluxe’s new tracks down a bit.

    The track selection isn’t perfect- they wasted a 3DS slot by putting Toad Circuit in with those god-awful Tour textures- but the addition of Mario Kart Tour tracks is a milestone for the series that holds up well- Tokyo Blur, for example, combines each of the track variations into one per lap. Since Tour tracks have different layouts on the same map (as opposed to totally different tracks with the same name in Super Mario Kart), it creates this unique lap-changing experience for the city tracks in Tour that adds replay value. Coconut Mall, Choco Mountain, Shroom Ridge and Ninja Hideaway are my personal favorites of this wave.

    The concept of DLC for 8 Deluxe I feel is better than a new Mario Kart, as 8 Deluxe is, to say the least, a huge money maker for the Switch. Since the experience of that game is the most refined out of the series, it makes sense to give us DLC to bide our time for the new console’s next-generation Mario Kart. And at 52 cents per track it’s a steal regardless of personal preference, since over half of the series’ tracks will be remade there’s sure to be something for everyone. So while the graphics are off-putting and the selection for this wave is… alright, it’s still a decent launch that should point to better waves in the years to come.    … Expand

    Não chega nem perto do tratamento das outras pistas, mesmo as que vieram como DLC no Wii U. Mas pela quantidade acho que vale.

    The first wave are what i like to call "the humble beginnings" and it really shows. The art is bad in some stages and a lot of them are really boring

    While, these courses aren’t as polished as the other courses, they will still guarantee a fun time with friends with some great music in the background.

    For the first wave of 6 waves, it's decent. However, I do not understand why some tracks have been improved graphicly, but others haven't. For example, Paris Prominade from Mario kart tour looks great with it's new graphics, but in 3Ds Toads circuit, they just ripped the version they used straight from Mario kart tour and with all it's bland textures and hideous lighting, it looks awfulFor the first wave of 6 waves, it's decent. I just don't understand why Nintendo were so lazy on some tracks, but not others.
    The city track remakes are really good though, because now, you have all the variants of the tracks from Tour are all now just one track. The majority of the city tracks in Mario kart tour were very boring, but in 8 deluxe, they made actually fun and good.
    Some really good tracks were brought in from older games such as GBA sky garden and Ds shroom ridge (a seriously underrated track) and they did well with those remasters, though for some reason, Sky garden remake is a lot shorter than it's original. Ninja hideaway is a good tracks, but it clearly isn't built for Mario kart 8 deluxe and especially not 200cc because it is really hard not to bash into sides or fall of the map. However, that could just be because of deluxes slippery controls.
    Over all though, a decent start at an idea that thankfully, I can say they have made better in future waves.    … Expand

    I’m gonna be honest, this was a rather mediocre start to the DLC. Paris Promenade literally has no mushroom shortcuts, Coconut Mall got totally massacred, somehow they chose 3DS Toad Circuit over other tracks like Wario Shipyard or Rosalina’s Ice World. The other tracks are alright I guess but this was the worst wave yet.

    Well, we're definitely off to a great start because this first wave of DLC has some bona fide classics as well as a few welcome surprises.

    All in all, there may be some call for a bit of complaint here, but not much. The promise of 48 new tracks for $24.99 works out math-wise to just 52 cents per track, and I just can't see how anyone could argue the value of that! [Issue #59 – May/June 2022, p. 19]

    Unfortunately, the quality of the new tracks varies: Toad Circuit feels like a rush job, while Paris Promenade perfectly captures the wonderful chaos of Mario kart. In summary, we're happy for more Mario kart, yet we're a little disappointed that the first part of this expansion doesn't reach the towering level of the original.
