And damn this game can be tough! Even after sinking about a hundred hours into the PSP game I could never complete the whole thing in one sitting. Here I am in the futuristic year of 2018 playing on a Nintendo Switch and I still feel like I need one of my older cousins around to help me beat some of the harder levels. Yeah my age may show more than I’d like, but it’s kind of nice to feel young again.

Lumines is at its best when it's pure immersion, no frills. Throw on a really good headset, turn the volume right up, load up a playlist of your favourite music, and melt deep into the beats, thudding rhythm, and hypnotic colours. Lumines is a puzzle game, but the action becomes so driven by feeling and rhythm that it's not really fair to call it something so simple; at it's best Lumines is a game you don't think about. It's a game you feel. And Lumines is so perfectly good at that all the developers needed to do with Lumines Remastered is stick the exact same game on Nintendo Switch.

Remastered is a stunning addition to the Switch library that absolutely shouldn’t be missed. Puzzle fans will likely delight the most from the game’s mechanics, but even those who have been turned off by puzzle titles in the past should consider giving Lumines Remastered a look, as it does enough different to warrant any gamer’s attention.

If you’re a fan of puzzle games, rhythm games, or just chilling out with a game that gives more than it demands, I heartily recommend Lumines Remastered. It’s a great addition to the Switch library and an excellent starting point for those who have never experienced the franchise before. For those who are longtime fans, it’s a love song to the original and the definitive form of the first Lumines title.

Lumines Remastered is a luminary of the puzzle genre and feels perfectly at home on the Switch. Intense and immersive puzzle action, psychedelic visuals, a killer soundtrack, and a bevy of content and modes make for a premier puzzle experience that should not be missed. Lumines is an addictive experience that is positively a delight to play, and we would highly recommend it to both veterans and newcomers of the puzzle genre. There’s something here for everyone, and considering the relatively low price tag, Lumines Remastered is very much ‘required playing’ for any Switch owner.

Lumines was a strong puzzle game when it first came out and that has not changed. The Switch version does suffer from framerate issues a bit, but other than that this is an amazing experience.

It was after a three and a half hour session that I figured out why it’s called “trance” music.

This game is nothing but a puzzle game. It's varied, there are different ways to play, several ways to win, score system, gradual difficulty, missions and online rankings.

14 years after its initial release, Lumines Remastered keeps being an unique puzzle in some ways, from its gameplay simplicity to its wonderful sountrack... The remastered has its own flaws, like the absence of new modes or the long loading times (even when retrying a challenge). Beyond that, as a classic, it's still a very enjoyable puzzle.

While Tetris purists may shirk at this block-matching alternative that messes with the formula a little, Lumines is worth a try. Whether it's high scores on the leaderboards, completing strategic challenges, or just filling the void for a couch-multiplayer title, Lumines Remastered has something for all lovers of arcade-type puzzle games.

Lumines Remastered for Nintendo Switch is not just a solid product: it is the most suitable version for the summer.

With Lumines Remastered the 2004 PSP game makes a magnificent return. Gameplay, visuals and music, that are intimately intertwined, are dope. And Rumble HD, that you can apply to other Joy-Cons, is a great to feel everything that this puzzle game with a lot of content - but no online game, sorry - has to offer.

A solid HD/4K update of a solid-gold classic puzzle game. Lumines Remastered doesn’t transform the Lumines experience and not all the new additions work out for the best, but who cares when the core game is still so fantastic and the overall audio-visual-sensory impact is so powerful?

Lumines is the kind of game that temporarily rewires your brain, splicing together its ability to recognize visual patterns and audible rhythms simultaneously and forcing you to do the hard but delightful work of putting that ability to use. Having that experience so lovingly presented--and on the Switch, having Lumines handheld again for the first time in six years--is an occasion worth celebrating.

While it won’t scratch the itch for anyone looking for a competitive puzzler, there isn’t a music-based puzzler quite like Lumines Remastered so beautifully executed, and at an affordable price. The Trance Vibration gimmick you can take it or leave it, but you’ll still be able to bliss out regardless.

Even though you can technically enjoy Lumines at a lower price on mobile devices, their smaller wells actually constrict the gameplay compared with wider console and computer platforms, and their soundtracks aren’t as compelling. If you want the full Lumines experience, this version’s reasonable pricing and interesting features nearly offset its remaining rough edges.

Lumines Remastered is the same good old game, but it’s back in 2018 and it’s better than ever. Mixing talent, puzzle games and rhythm games, Lumines Remastered’s only real flaw is that there’s no online multiplayer.

The classic Lumines Remastered is now on current gen systems, but excels wonderfully as a handheld game on the Nintendo Switch.

The series' best stuff returns at a fair price. Buy if single-player puzzle games are your jam.

This is the rare game that excuses itself for taking whole hours out of your life, and it gives you more than a little in return. A lasting smile, a song soaring in your heart and blocks falling from the heavens everytime you shut your eyes. 14 years on, Lumines is as potent a puzzler as it's ever been, and in this it's as close to perfection as it's ever been. The only real negative here is the amount of slowdown I noticed on the Switch version of the game; you may notice a bit of sludge as certain skins shift into each other, or when there are a lot of effects on the screen. It’s not horrible, and it’s rare enough that it doesn’t ruin the game, but the interconnected nature of the visuals, music and sound effects make any and all lag stand out. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s disappointing in a game that relies so heavily on rhythm and timing.

    FINALLY

I've been waiting patiently for this one. Finally Lumines on the Switch!

One of the best puzzlers out there. It looks and feels amazing on the Switch.

Thankfully you can switch button schemes though! I don't get why they would make the default button layout different from the orignal. (Scheme B is more like the original psp version where A & B are alternate buttons instead of A &B the same and X & Y the same, maybe I remember wrong though, anyway, B feels better for me)

Only small detail that kinda seems to bother me right away is the strafing. It takes too long of a button hold to start the trafe. I remember it being faster on the psp, I want the strave to start immediately after holding left or right! Or at leats a lot faster then how it is on the switch right now. Ohwell.. maybe it just takes some getting used to (but please Enhance, DO FIX if you can!!

I was always tempted to get this in the past on PSP and later the Vita, but never took the plunge as I found it quite expensive. Now,I was always tempted to get this in the past on PSP and later the Vita, but never took the plunge as I found it quite expensive. Now, considering the low price I decided to give it a go. Man, this game is really good and I love how the game challenges you to get to level 100 to get all the skins. This is a great way to motivate people to keep trying and get better at it! You really need to play this game with headphones to get full immersion. The HD rumble following the rhythm is also brilliant. Full Review »
