LOVE is a charming game that ties a time bending puzzle box to a lattice of interwoven dioramas that await the player’s intervention. It’s like a Rubik’s cube but instead of coloured tiles, there’s bite sized narrative adventures to uncover. Not all of the stories are impactful because they’re told exclusively though character gesticulations rather than text or vocal performances but more than enough stick the landing to make this a satisfying experience.

LOVE – A Puzzle Box Filled with Stories has such a clever concept implemented in a unique way — who would have thought to make a game focused on a building’s past and present, its windows open for players to peek inside and see how love grows or wanes over time? Unfortunately, this labor of love was a little hard to understand, its stories only sometimes resonating through confusing feedback and cluttered scenes. If you’re here for puzzles, you may want to pass this one up (or at least give it a go on your PC); if you prefer sentimental stories above gameplay, then let love conquer all and give LOVE – A Puzzle Box Filled with Stories a shot.

It just didn’t work for me. If you can see things the way the game presents, and you don’t mind some truly irritating puzzle design in places, you may take to LOVE better than I did.

It’s definitely got heart, but it needs a lot more than that to make it worth recommending.

It's totally worth trying, but don't feel bad if you need to cheat to get past a puzzle or two so you can enjoy the rest of the ride. Full Review »

LOVE has an interesting take, and not one that I think I’ve seen to date, with it mechanically being a puzzle game that allows you to manipulate a building a bit like a Rubik’s Cube to reveal vignettes of various people that tell some sort of story. The quality of them varies quite a bit, and not all of them really connected for me, but I will say that some were positively touching even if sometimes also tragic in some way. Unfortunately the puzzle aspect isn’t as strong, and if anything can be perplexing since there’s a lot of trial and error involved even in understanding what you’re supposed to be doing in places. You can figure it out but the needless frustration factor is a bit too high to make it an easy recommendation.
