I think it does a great job of emulating a style of RPG that is generally not represented on consoles or PC’s nowadays, and scratches an itch I didn’t even know I had. It’s not overly long, has a solid combat system, and the story is robust enough to draw you in and keep you hooked. Give this one a shot when you get a chance, you won’t be disappointed.

This is a JRPG that takes us back to the golden era of the genre in the 90s. It brings together everything that makes a great game, and although it does not innovate, it feels fresh. A hidden gem that no fan of the genre can miss.

Sadly, there's the matter of performance with sluggish load times, especially before battles, and an inconsistent frame-rate rearing their ugly heads that make it hard to get sucked in by the, otherwise, interesting story and gameplay.

Legrand Legacy: Tale of the Fatebounds spends a little too much time reminiscing over the past than looking forwards and carving out its own journey, and as a result, it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table at which its inspirations sit. Still, while its random QTEs do make battles more of a game of chance than they need to be, there’s enough heft to the story, the characters, and the beauty of its setting to help save it from disappearing into obscurity. With a build that runs well on Nintendo Switch, this is still a worthy adventure for ’90s JRPG fans.

Legrand Legacy is a pretty but otherwise generic RPG. It’s beautifully hand-drawn world gets lost beneath mountains of dialogue and a plot so weighed down by tropes that it barely stays afloat. It’s a passable to good title, but none of its elements come together to create anything new, exciting, inspiring, or terribly memorable.

Interesting, but technically unsound fantasy adventure emulating J-RPGs of the PlayStation era.

Legrand Legacy: Tale of the Fatebounds is what it claims to be: a role-playing game that feels old, for better or for worse. It won't wow you with storytelling or world-building, but the combat is serviceable, if not remarkably challenging. If you're a fan of old-school Japanese role-playing games, you'll find something to enjoy here. Just know that you're in for a game that, much like it claims to, feels dated.

If this production is certain to appeal to like-minded fans, it's less likely to have an impact with those that are not so keen on the genre, especially when it brings nothing that's really new and when many of its combats are based on chance.

If Legrand Legacy was on the original PlayStation, it would have a small cult following but in this day and age, you'd expect much more originality from a retro-style RPG. It does a lot well but it also doesn't go above and beyond to provide a must-play experience.

Legrand Legacy is, in the end, a very playable JRPG. Sadly it's also one of marginal appeal, even to those who grew up playing old JRPGs back in the 32-bit era.

I love this game. Let me say that again. I absolutely love this game! It's up there with my favorite RPG's of all time such as FFIX and LegendI love this game. Let me say that again. I absolutely love this game! It's up there with my favorite RPG's of all time such as FFIX and Legend of Dragoon.

The turned based system is fun and doesn't get boring. As your attacks upgrade throughout the game the details become more grand and just cool to watch, such as Eris's magic.

The characters convey real emotions, they question life like real humans do, and have big personalities. Never hyper, disingenuous, or annoying like with anime writing. Kael's sarcasm is hilarious. Scatia is hard not to love darling. Lucia before the tree is freaking nuts, I kept hearing her voice as Lysa Arryn from Game of Thrones. I love that this game even made my mind go there.

The script is written so well despite the grammatical errors. The story is genuinely captivating. I also loved the different dialects throughout the lands. It makes the writing even more fun to read. The story is magical and mysterious which is exactly what keeps me hooked.

The hand drawn scenes, lighting and rendered overlays are gorgeous. A forgotten skill in todays RPG's. You will definitely find yourself waiting the few seconds for the screen to zoom out to the full view of areas. Gwenelle forest for example is full of beauty and mystery. I loved the challenges you face there as well.

The 3D video shorts (like when you meet a new charcter) are simply perfect. An underrated FF influence.

The soundtrack and the human chorus elements are just so so so good. I could definitely hear Legend of Dragoon in there and I appreciate the use of flutes, strings, and other medieval/renaissance sounds. I would have loved to hear a little more FFIX type sounds. Irregardless! Job well done!!

My only complains are very small. The grammatical errors need a little work. The npc's need a different script after events have unfolded, like in Ostia where the npc's are still talking about the tournament. I would have liked to see a little more explorations in towns and cities, more houses or rooms you can enter, shops and inns as well. And lastly would be more sound effects, like bosses roaring and stuff like that. The mother of the forest for example makes a screaming emote but theres no roar sound or screaming. Maybe make the screen shake during that roar too. Or like some mumbling rumble sounds when the Roshua tree was speaking. That would have added a more chilling effect.

Overall I love this game. It has been added to my very small list of outstanding RPG's. For Semisoft studio's first attempt at a full length magical adventure they really outdid themselves. Encore! Encore! If they decide to keep this style of gaming going I will most certainly be supporting/donating to those projects.

I am Rockhard for Semisoft haha. If your a true PSX era RPG fan this game is 100% a MUST!

Most polished 3D indie rpg in existence.
Has a timed hit enhancer for battles.
    Enough said.
