I really enjoyed the first Professor Layton game, but I forgot how tired the series had become. There's still the charminge art style and animation. I like the Katrielle character quite a bit. There's a few clever ones, but nothing to compare to the first game. The gameplay is basically push through too much dialogue to reveal a location so you can then bring the map back up to go to that location so you can slog through more dialogue and occasionally get to do an underwhelming puzzle. The mysteries that comprise the story aren't particularly compelling or mysterious. I enjoyed the voice work, but the charm wears thin as90% of the game is flipping through text. There's also tons of extras that I had no interest in .
It took me well over a year to complete the game after a bunch of stopping and starting. I will say that last few cases are most interesting storywise and I enjoyed the last case quite a bit. It's a shame that the rest of the game wasn't as compelling. If they could house the puzzles in an interesting mystery it would dramatically increase the games value. As it is though, I think I'm done with the series unless they really shake things up.

As a fan of the Layton franchise, I’ve played every gane in it, and Katrielle is a really, really bad game. Since launch I bought it and after years, today I haven’t been able to finish it due to its terribly dull and ridiculous story and the worst puzzles of all. I really hope I can play a new Layton’s game as it has to be with the mystery story and good puzzles.

It's a nice game, but some puzzles aren't that logical or unclear what the meaning is. In this game the overall story is very weak, not even once i was curious how the story ended. In the first 6 layton games, the overall story was exciting to follow, with a lot more cinematics.

There is also too much dialog. Eventually i started skipping the conversations. i rather see more cinematics

I finished the game, i mildly enjoy it, i will go back to some cases to play missing puzzles, but afterwards i wont play this game ever again.

I really want a layton game like the first six.

No es la mejor obra de esta saga, pero si es una muy competente y la protagonista tiene un grab carisma. Y sobre la jugabilidad nada q no se sepa de esta saga. Pero lo q es la historia en si mas floja que en otros titulos.

This was my first game on switch and my third Layton game. It isn't the best that I have played, but I still had a fabulous time. Realistically I'd give it an 8.5, but I suppose a 9 will do

This game is completely made for kid
I realized this as soon as I saw the female protagonist so if you have kids, this game is the best (with easy puzzle, friendly graphic, and cute character,...)
With who are fans of Hershel Layton, you will be disappointed with this

Massive waste of money. They took everything we loved about the professor Layton series, scrapped it, and procured a game that is not only the worst in the series, but also a very bad video game in general. The charm of the bond between the professor and Luke is gone. We are replaced with the supposed daughter of professor Layton, although there are no similarities. The best thing about Layton series is the mystery to be solved, shrouded in a story with compelling characters, drawing us in with lots of puzzles that increase in difficulty as you progress. The abomination of katrielles conquest is comprised of these mini detective cases, with about 2 puzzles that wouldn't challenge a 4 year old, spread out between a novel's worth of uninteresting dialogue, like gone off butter on a burnt slice of toast. By the time you're even slightly engaged in the obvious conclusion of a case, it's over, and all those characters which you spent an hour reading about their mundane backstory are never to be seen again. Stupid characters, stupid game, bring professor Layton back or leave this series alone before it is ruined further. Expand

Loved it! Love the art, animations and LOVE the music. Took off one point cause some of the puzzles are annoying

The beginning of the game is kind of boring with the mysteries being quite dull and predictable BUT the last one threw me off so bad. The plot twist with the combined story line really redeemed the overall game. Thought the story they silently stacked all the pieces of the mystery together without the player even knowing and the final reveal was just perfect

    Recomendado.

I hate this game. There is a horrendous amount of drab / superfluous dialogue. I've played a singled puzzle and then it resumed vomitting dialogue.

I loved all of the prior Layton games, but the overall story was bland and uninteresting with the cases being insultingly obvious. The addition of the "puzzle" of putting together the clues felt like a pointless gimmick since nothing clever was ever done with the idea. I also wish these games would rework the way you find hint coins since randomly hovering over everything on every screen to find them is tedious and doesn't make the player feel clever. I'd rather have a theme for items to click on in each chapter so that at least I could feel like I found them by being perceptive or clever.

Aside from the new characters, I can not think of a single new thing that this game added to prior games. This is a strict downgrade from every other Layton game.

I did enjoy this game, however I wouldn't recommend to anyone who has seen the Katrielle Layton Anime series, as many of the episodes are actually the same story as some of the cases, for example Ratman and the money disappearing from the vault. The puzzles were definitely more random and easier to solve than previous Professor Layton games, but still were quite engaging. The minigames were quite fun but that's all I can really say on them, definitely not mind-blowing. As a big fan of the Layton series I would like to see the franchise continued and wouldn't mind another instalment like this, however I would prefer sticking to the Professor format of one big case per game. Overall, this game is great, and pretty underrated! The developers did a great job of transferring the game to switch. The graphics look cute, and the puzzles still work great on the switch's one screen. The DLC outfits they've included for free with this game are also a nice touch, especially if you're a fan of the previous games, because many of the outfits are nods to past games. This isn't the best entry in the Layton series, but it does its job well. It's a more lighthearted game than the previous ones in the series, for sure, but there's something charming in its own right about the episodic format of the game, solving individual cases rather than having an overarching mystery. Katrielle, Ernest, and Sherl have a very fun dynamic, and it makes solving the mysteries that much more engaging. The puzzles are still very fun, albeit a bit easier than the ones in previous entires. The music in this game also helps create and maintain the atmosphere of the game really well. I do wish they'd have dived into the missing Hershel Layton storyline a bit more, but overall I had a great time with the game. I hope there's a sequel because this cast has a lot of potential. This was great! I wouldn't play it as my first Layton game (it seems to assume some familiarity with the game style), but if you're already a fan of the series, 100% worth a play.

It's a Layton game - you know what you're getting in terms of gameplay - but I liked it much better than games 4 through 6 of the original trilogy. I thought the puzzle quality was generally pretty good, and

It's a Layton game - you know what you're getting in terms of gameplay - but I liked it much better than games 4 through 6 of the original trilogy. I thought the puzzle quality was generally pretty good, and there weren't many puzzles that were based on bizarre assumptions or took 60 minutes to get through a sliding puzzle. Plus, there's no shortage of hint coins for when you just want to be done with a puzzle.

The plot is small-scale, but I'll take that over the last 2 games that were so wrapped up in creating plot twists and drama that I wasn't as able to just get into the puzzles. The game is set up in an episodic fashion, with a number of small cases to solve, which also helps to break up the game compared with the rambling plotlines of the OG series. Some of the small cases are pretty fun, like the Ratman case, and others are just dull, but most aren't actively bad. The characters are pretty dopey - the talking dog is a serious lowlight - but production quality and art are very good, and I'm really just here for the puzzles.

    Do not waste your money:
This game is bad. The plot is predictable, the writing poor and long, and the puzzles...
I'm not gonna sum them up, lemmie give an example. Puzzle two. Riddles come in many shapes and sizes, all with different answers. Some good, some bad. A good riddle/puzzle tackles your assumptions, giving you all the bits of info and asking you to come up with a scenario

Riddles come in many shapes and sizes, all with different answers. Some good, some bad. A good riddle/puzzle tackles your assumptions, giving you all the bits of info and asking you to come up with a scenario that makes sense. That's a good riddle.
Puzzle two isn't a riddle. ANY riddle at LEAST challenges your thinking, makes you go "huh, I guess". This question? Oh hoh this question.
It says "the time is 3:30pm, what is the minimum number of times you need to touch the clock to make it hit midnight"
A riddle-y response, despite there being two hands, would be 1 hand, as you only need to move the minute hand and the hour hand will follow! Or maybe just the hour hand as it crosses over the minute hand, you get the idea.
The answer? 0 times... you can just wait.
    ...
    ...
Yeah? That's ho-... that's how clocks wo- wait?

In this game, wrong answers lose points. You're told before all of this to get as many as they may help at the end! This is before the FIRST puzzle.
The answer to puzzle two is just how clocks work. This isn't a riddle, it doesn't change your perspective. If the reponse is "don't overthink" Lemmie break it down into two groups, 'cause that's not a bad idea sometimes!
    1) You haven't done puzzles/riddles before: Then this is a great time to start thinking outside the box! "What challenges will come later, what kind of game is this" the player'll think. Then they just have to "know" the answer. This misleads the player, and for future ones they won't initially think as hard, failing some attempts because the game was a bad teacher of its own mechanics. You lose by not thinking
    2) You *have* done puzzles/riddles before: The player knows "there's no way it's *this* easy, this isn't even a riddle". They put in "1" and lose points. You lose by thinking.

At just the *second* puzzle, the game punishes you for caring about the points in the game. And if the player doesn't care about the points, then why put them in your game?

Layton's Mystery Journey is bad in all non-game-related aspects, and in their game-related aspects. Don't waste your money.

Invest in indie games. Baba is You is an incredible switch title!

My only real gripes with the game come from the occasionally too long dialogue sequences (it seems that every character has to quip or comment about Katrielle's current course of action) and the frustrating lack of resolution at the end of the game. Although the game obviously sets up a sequel, neither of the two core mysteries introduced at the outset of the game are solved at all. If you're looking for some charming brain teasers and puzzles to distract you from the current goings-on, give Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy a try.

Great for newcomers, perhaps a little easy for experienced puzzle solvers but still a pleasant puzzle game with its typical humour and an episodic approach to storytelling. [Issue#300]
