May 19, 2021Even with some minor technical concessions, Layers of Fear 2 is every bit as impactful on Switch as it was on beefier platforms, full of the unsettling atmosphere and disturbing yet insightful psychological horror that Bloober Team is so good at crafting. Only now, there’s the added convenience of handheld play—and the option of playing under the covers with lights turned off for maximum effect.
-
Jun 1, 2021Layers of Fear 2 is a fun horror game that doesn’t rely on gore or violence. It focuses more on psychological terror, while also providing numerous jump scares and haunting imagery. Once you start, it’s a hard game to quit playing.
-
May 20, 2021Layers of Fear 2 is a strong improvement over the first game, what used to be a copy cat of a cult demo, has found it’s own identity. The port to the Switch is, aside for just a few hiccups here and there, is a perfect port to the portable console and finally brings all Bloober Team's games to the console for everyone to enjoy.
-
Jun 7, 2021Layers of Fear 2 may not be the quintessential horror-puzzle spookathon, but it’s certainly a thrilling, claustrophobic ghost story that easily holds its own. It’s at times uneven, and the puzzling isn’t as interesting as the backdrop, but for sheer storytelling prowess alone, it’s definitely worth setting sail on this ghost ship.
-
May 19, 2021While playing Layers of Fear 2 on the go isn’t quite as scary as its console versions, it’s nevertheless creepy and thought-provoking as you explore the well-crafted scenes and lose yourself in becoming a completely different person.
-
Jun 1, 2021Layers of Fear 2 is a surreal journey packed with fear and existential dread. Everything from the environment to the music, Layers of Fear 2 is an experience that is frightful, thought-provoking, and disorienting (in a good way). Granted, it doesn’t always hit every note; however, the decision to port it over to the Nintendo Switch is certainly a most welcome one.
-
Jun 9, 2021For those who want to experience the horror on Nintendo Switch. The psychological horror elements that Layers of Fear 2 wanted to offer have been left behind by too much jumpscare and repetitive gameplay.
-
Jun 9, 2021Layers of Fear is a really interesting experience. It has a well-written story and a sound narrative, along with great features and nice visuals. On the other hand, there still are some issues regarding some psychological horror aspects that undermine the overall quality of the game.
-
Jun 8, 2021Layers of Fear 2 is one of the best horror games on the Switch platform. While the amazing atmosphere, built by binaural audio and great graphics deliver a strong and immersive experience, gameplay and story could be much better. Yet all of the qualities this title builds, still shine strong, enough for any horror fan to truly enjoy an around 8 hours long ride.
-
May 27, 2021Layers of Fear 2 is an enjoyable experience, if a bit flawed. There’s not a single part I didn’t enjoy, but neither is there any section that avoided serious criticism. As a relatively cheap game, I’d say definitely pick it up if you’re a fan of spooks and scares, but don’t expect it to especially move you or last more than a few days. I’d also say that despite this being a review for the Switch copy, to try it on a different platform instead, since it doesn’t capitalize on any of the system’s strengths and it suffers from its flaws.
-
May 21, 2021After years of waiting, Layers of Fear 2 comes to Nintendo Switch to provoke anguish, fear and desolation. Bloober Team’s effort is noticeable in this port that is faithful to the original with some shortcomings, with the option to play wherever you want.
-
May 21, 2021Layers Of Fear 2 on Switch is a well-developed port of a decent psychological thriller. The numerous puzzles and mind games thrown at the player add a layer of engagement that sets this title apart from others in the genre. However, the reused jumpscares and predictable plot remove the player from the haunting halls of this ship to remind them that this is just a game, and they might have a better time playing one of the more recent releases from Bloober Team.
-
Jun 17, 2021Layers of Fear 2 is no better than the first game. Its mechanics are copied from other horror games, which do not provide any innovation that helps tell the story that the game wants to tell. This story is not fully understood and ends up being chaotic but visually interesting.
-
May 24, 2021The Switch version is undoubtedly the worst way to play Layers of Fear 2 – but it’s still worth a look for horror fans who only have the Nintendo hybrid console available to them. The game itself carries an engrossing narrative set in a game world that’s constantly trying to surprise the player through a 5-7 hour adventure. While the puzzles are middling and the visuals less impressive than the other versions of this game, there’s plenty of scares and a thick atmosphere without a massive amount of gore.
-
May 20, 2021Layers of Fear 2 is a rather disappointing follow-up to 2016's interesting and effective psychological horror effort. There's a decent premise here, a strong setting and an opportunity to tell an interesting tale, but it feels wasted for the most part. Despite looking and sounding great, predicable scares, repetitive gameplay, disappointing puzzles and a story that just never makes a decent connection result in a game that's pretty hard to recommend overall.
