Last Stop is a single-player third-person adventure set in present day London.
Written and developed by Variable State, creators of the award-winning Virginia, Last Stop tells three interconnected tales featuring three playable main characters.
Donna, a spaced-out high-schooler who feels trapped by her stifling home life and her overprotective big sister. Away from home, Donna seeks teenage thrills with her friends Becky and Vivek, but gets more than she bargained for when the trio become unexpected kidnappers in a game of amateur detective gone wrong.
John, an overworked middle-aged single dad. Burdened with debt and the pressures of being an only parent, John jealously pines after the free and easy life of his twenty-something bachelor neighbour, Jack. When the pair unwittingly fall foul of a vengeful stranger, a cursed artefact threatens to transform their lives forever.
Meena, a ruthlessly ambitious professional who struggles to find the same satisfaction with her family that she does in the thrill of her work. As Meena vies with an upstart colleague for a crucial promotion, something ancient stirs in the basement beneath her workplace.
Last Stop is fully voice acted, featuring hours of dialogue and a voice cast of dozens, with performances from some of the brightest talent in the UK today, including rising stars Lulu Simpson as Molly Smith and Kassian Akhtar as Dylan Hughes.
Last Stop features an original soundtrack by BAFTA award winning composer Lyndon Holland, performed by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
Roleplay as 3 unique characters. Make choices to shape their conversations. Walk in their shoes and discover where their individual stories lead.

Last Stop isn’t perfect. Its limited and tepid interactivity makes it better suited as a TV show, but I can’t deny that the story is entertaining and absorbing enough where, in the grand scheme of things, its shortcomings didn’t matter much. It took me back to the days of charming British sci-fi tv shows like Blake 7, Doctor Who and Torchwood, where these shows shared a love of telling character-driven stories on a backdrop of big themes despite budget constraints. With its intimate cast of characters, eccentric English charm and cosy story-telling, Last Stop replicates these shows’ charisma, creating an enjoyable sci-fi tale that’s gripping and one you’ll want to see through to the end.

As a game, Last Stop could’ve used a bit more polish in controls and clarity. Despite that, I enjoyed my time with it and can’t wait to see what Variable State does next.

Last Stop is an interactive adventure with a very marked London atmosphere that offers us an interesting plot with some aspects to improve. The idea of the three characters is good, although sometimes it seems a bit forced. However, the game will make us have a good time.

A twisting and engaging portmanteau tale of the unexplained, set in a London that’s refreshing in its finely observed normality.

In the end, Last Stop is an entertaining collection of three narratives, but given the superficial nature of the player’s interactions, I can’t help but think that the whole project might have worked better as a straightforward visual novel.

Last Stop gave us an overall pleasant experience by concocting three distinct plots with fair flavors. Precise rhythm, convincing characters, story that keeps us in suspense: there is no doubt that the Variable State studio masters its pen. What a pity that the player's freedom is so compartmentalized by its lack of impact on events and that the technical quality tarnishes the experience. The adventure will however prove to be appreciable for fervent fans of narrative games who are just waiting to discover an entertaining story.

Last Stop should should best be reckoned as a strictly narrative game, as its interactive scope is way too clumsy : full linearity, no impacting choices and bland QTE sequences. The variety of atmospheres (comedy, drama, mysteries) makes it interesting to play though, and the game is carried by a nice and fitting soundtrack.

Last Stop is a 6 hour long interactive story adventure game.. much like a telltale game, Last stop is episodicor by the chapter, but closer to tales from the borderlands, oyul lbe going across 3 different stories, each one with therir own unique feel and I loved everyone of them… gameplay wise youll be ocassionally doing quick time events, and choosing dialog.. there is only one section where you actually have to find an item to move on, and the choices here I feel don’t really matter, there are only 2 endings for each character, however those endings are only dependent on literally the last choice you make for each, whch is disappointing and kills any sort of replay value which is important in a game like this.. but I don’t even care, the story telling is so compelling that I didn’t mind my choices didn’t matter, I didn’t mind that this was basically a 6 hour long interctive movie, theres so much charm and intrigue here.. one story following the lives of 2 men that switch bodies, trying to figure out how to fix it and live this way forever just incase, a story of a young girl following this stranger that brings girls home tha never come back out, and a story of a woman having marriage issues whos also in some goverent program, Theres comedy, mystery, and sci fi, and I loved all 3, I love the charcters and the world here…
Again the choices leave much to be desired as they just don’t feel like they matter, but I loved every moment spent with last stop and believe this is a must play for those that love a good story in their games.

On a general level I’ve tended to be pretty tough on these sorts of games, as player agency is quite important to me… but then there are sometimes games with characters that feel so rich that, for whatever reason, that concern sort of goes out the window. That’s what happened to me with Last Stop. With its mix of quite ordinary characters, in some cases leading pretty mundane lives, and the unexpected it managed to capture me on both ends of the spectrum. There’s just something genuine about these people and their interactions more often than not that entertained me, and the choices you are able to make, even if perhaps superficial, often felt authentic to me. That each of the game’s stories bends to match up in unexpected ways was a treat, and while not everyone may enjoy the ride this is a rare primarily story-driven game that managed to get me fully engaged in the characters and what is happening with them.
