    Not a bad experience, but not a memorable one either. [Issue #43 – November/December 2019, p. 20SW]

Getting a few things right just isn’t enough when the core of play — the platforming — is this troubled. Jet Kave Adventure was so awkward and problematic that I had to stop playing. When I see games with problems, I usually want to offer suggestions on how things could have been fixed, but the issues here run too deep — all I can say to the developers is that I wish them better luck next time.

Easily accessible to players of all audiences, Jet Kave Adventure doesn't break new grounds but does a competent job at delivering a good experience with competent level design and well implemented mechanics.

There is something comforting about Jet Kave Adventure. It doesn't take any risks or fly off on any wild tangents, it is just a solid, well-made side scrolling platformer. Mastering each level will be a challenge, but younger players will still enjoy the story and zipping around on the jet pack. Jolly good fun!

Jet Kave Adventure is a rock-solid (pun intended) platformer that doesn’t outstay its welcome and offers addictive, retro-style gameplay. If you’ve ever enjoyed any of the Donkey Kong Country titles, Jet Kave Adventure is an earnest tribute that you’re sure to enjoy.

If the worst things you could say about Jet Kave Adventure are that it copies Donkey Kong Country and it’s a little short…well, that’s about right. It’s not going to make you forget the original, and you may feel slightly short-changed as far as value goes, but I’ve definitely played much worse than those.

While Jet Kave Adventure does manage to be enjoyable for the most part, it never really hooked me; the formula rarely changes and the gameplay never evolves. Each of the game’s four levels is divided into nine stages, and by the time I reached stage nine, I was more than ready to move on to something else. Shorter levels with more variety would’ve alleviated this problem. There’s a good game here, but it’s best experienced in short bursts. If you keep hoping that Retro Studios would make a third Donkey Kong Country Returns game, you are probably the target audience for Jet Kave Adventure.

Jet Kave Adventure may offer very little in the way of innovation, but its refined and enjoyable gameplay makes this an easy recommendation for platforming fans.

Jet Kave Adventure is a 2D platform game that has everything to be a great game: very beautiful graphics, good melodies and great playability. It fails in something as important as the design of levels, since they are too conventional and do not contribute anything new to the genre. However, it is still an enjoyable title.

Jet Kave Adventure is a fun action/platformer that anyone can enjoy. It’s a little on the short side (for the price) and could use some extra features to keep the player interested, but it looks great and is easy to play.

Enjoyable platformer that would benefit from more variety.

Jet Kave Adventure looks good but feels uninspired and altogether too easy for the type of game it is. Considering the strong competition on the Switch, it's hard to recommend this one to any but the most die-hard platformer fans or the younger gamers out there looking to dip their toes in the genre.

Jate Kave Adventure is a good 2D platformer, full of good ideas. It’s quite short, but it’s a good option if you like this genre.

Jet Kave Adventure is full of rewarding scenarios but it could have definitely used more time in the oven before it released.

When it comes down to it, Jet Kave Adventure is by no means a bad game, it’s just a bit of a bland one.

The lack of online features and a few quality of life issues make the value proposition somewhat bitter, but everything else about the game is undeniably enjoyable. Pick this one up if you’re looking for a platforming challenge, or something lighthearted to casually pick up and play as the mood strikes.

A good Donkey Kong Country-like platformer with an intense use of the jet pack, challenging bosses and a decent replayable value.

Jet Kave Adventure is a noble effort from 7Levels and mechanically it does show some promise, but it also becomes repetitive quite fast as it fails to nail the smart level design and addictive platforming action of its contemporaries. The level art is gorgeous and does a great job to enliven the sci-fi-imbued prehistoric world that the developer has created, but the platforming itself is far too uniform and simplistic to retain the player's interest. As such, it's best suited to short play sessions but even here, the experience shows too many frustrating cracks to be memorable.

Jet Kave Adventure will be on nobody's Game of the Year lists, but that really doesn't matter. What it does do is provide a reasonably solid 2.5D platformer that will keep you entertained for a few hours (and beyond, if you want to try to beat all the optional objectives). At a little under $20, it's a bit steep for what's on offer, but if you've been craving a no-nonsense platformer that offers a decent selection of levels and looks pretty while doing it, you could do far worse – of course, you could arguably do a lot better, too.

Jet Kave Adventure is a fun platformer that wears its inspirations on its sleeve and ends just as it feels like it's starting to warm up.

For $20 this game has great value. Graphics great. Gameplay Great. Music Good. Its overall very fun and enjoyable to play. Challenging and not easy as I thought was going to be. This is my first review on Metacritic. I especially did this once I saw this game was not getting the praise it deserves! I'm experienced Gamer 30+ years. This game should be a top seller on Switch! Don't be fooled by the low price. You can tell a lot of effort was put into this game. Should be rated much higher than a 5.5 that is a disgrace to this game! This is one of the best games on Switch for sure!! Full Review »

JKA is a pretty, fun and moderately priced indie platformer.

JKA is a pretty, fun and moderately priced indie platformer.
    What's to love:

    1. the controls are super tight and the game runs smooth (although 30 fps) so the very core of jumping, hovering and dashing is pure fun
    2. the game is a looker, one of the prettiest 3D graphics in indie games at this price point
    3. every level introduces something new, and some obstacles are really creative (bamboo sliding!, opening flowers to jump on them)
    4. while the base game is on the easy side, extra challenges are punishing (in the good sense)
    5. looking for the gold statues is fun because they are cleverly hidden
    6. chase sequences are intense and I love paragliding - mainly it's difficult but fair (controls are near perfect, remember, in my opinion)
    7. For a 2.5D platformer that doesn't try to be "deep" or "artsy", the story is surprisingly fleshed out and delivered in an interesting way (apart from the narrator, all dialogues are pictograms).

    What's meh?

    1. Bosses, although have interesting attack schemes, are ugly.
    2. Combat isn't deep, but I have doubts it was supposed to be. Enemies are more like another platforming obstacles
    3. Musical segments are fun but not as much fun as in Rayman Legends
    4. Some upgrades seem much more useful than others

To sum up, it's a fun, fast and colorful platformer. Perhaps it doesn't reinvent the genre but t's really well-made and fills the lack of a new DKC pretty nicely.
