    Ion Fury is not only an incredible love letter to ‘90s first-person shooters; it’s a great first-person shooter in its own right. It leverages a classic engine in new and exciting ways and is only very rarely hampered by it. While the humor may rub some players the wrong way, it’s arguably worth suffering through for a game that is in many ways better than its source material. This is a ‘90s shooter the way you remember them, rather than perhaps how they actually were.

    Ion Fury is nothing short of a giant love letter to the classic shooters of the 1990s. From the cheesy one-liners to the secret-filled stages, the game oozes style in spades. Though it doesn't improve much over its predecessors, Ion Fury really doesn't need to. Fans of classic shooters will definitely not want to miss this, while fans of modern shooters looking for a change will find an experience not too far outside of their comfort zone.

    However, if you’re unbothered by framerate, the Switch version of Ion Fury is just as complete content-wise as it is on any other platform. You won’t miss out on or gain any content on the Switch, and this is the only way to take the game on the go. If you’re set on picking up Ion Fury, your choice of platform really comes down to portability vs. framerate. If a handheld version of the game is essential, the Switch is the only console that can offer that feature. Otherwise, you’re best off picking the game up elsewhere.

    Ion Fury on Switch is a great version, it suffers a little from too small text in hand-held mode and has some frame-rate tear during auto-save moments, but otherwise it is a retro fan's dream.

    After the relative failure that was Duke Nukem Forever, it is great to see a game which rekindles that old classic Duke feel with a new (if not overly similar) IP. It has a number of stumbles, but if you want to take a 25-year blast-to-the-past, Ion Fury doesn’t surpass the FPS games of the age, but it does stand well against them, making it a good choice both for veterans of the age and for those new to the classic shooter style.

    Ion Fury blows the Build Engine's dust off, and manages to offer something that seems to hit all the right - nostalgic - notes, but it sort of misses the most crucial ones. Gunfights feel awesome, but the level design is anything but, leading to the many quitter moments being dull as hell. Plus, Voidpoint's creation lacks character, and plays its "comedic" card a bit too safe for something that's meant to be a return to the days of Duke Nukem's political incorrectness. As for the Switch port, while currently the only way to enjoy this on the go, this is definitely something that plays a lot better on the PC.

    Absolutely great game! was a hit on PC and now im glad its out on all consoles, bought all 3 versions. highly recommend it!

    It has became my fav game on switch, purchased it 50%off for 12.5 euros, but it would easyly worth full price.

    Game is very long, very complex level design,full of secrets, really good atmosphere, great sound effects, variety of the levels, and the GYRO aiming maaan. It is the best ,most precise gyro aim i have experienced on switch. Two more things i can not see to mention about the game from anyone else.

    The battery consumption is really good! I mean slow by good. It is important for switch lite users. It's not even 20 % drain per 70 mins. Really good.
    And it is 500 MB only ,could also be important for switch users without sd card in the device. Really nice tiny file size for a game this long and complex.
    It has replay value as well. Oh and the save system! That is how it should work in every game.

When the action does kickoff it feels cumbersome and awkward on console due to lack of effort to adapt from the mouse controls.… Expand

    The Switch port is awful. Unstable 30fps in a game that has graphics from 1996, which heavily impacts the fast-paced, hardcore gameplay. TheThe Switch port is awful.     I have played through the game earlier on the XSX which is super fluid and fun. However I was missing one thing from the Xbox port: GyroI have played through the game earlier on the XSX which is super fluid and fun. However I was missing one thing from the Xbox port: Gyro aiming. After playing games like the Duke 3D 25th anniversary in a sold 60fps on the Switch, the Ion Fury port feels VERY underwhelming. The framerate drops down in the 20s more often than I would like, and that ruins the flow of the gameplay. Yes it has gyro aiming which is really cool, but I found that with the low framerate it really isn't that beneficial at all :/

    The devs said it was something they overlooked because the invert controls option was in the dev kit but not in the final game. I hope someone in their QA team got fired.

    I've been waiting for nearly a month for the 1.05 patch on Switch. But I've completely given up on this game and 3D Realms in general. Their last good game was Duke Nukem 3D over 20 years ago.    … Expand
