Great game. Switch version is amazing with smooth framerate, crisp graphics, and looks BEAUTIFUL on handheld mode. If you love oldschool Duke Nukem 3D, you'll love this game.

Updated - Now with 1.06 the missing inverted control option was added, the framedrop between the levels (when saving) are almost gone too. Took over 3 weeks after release until the game was really playable, another reason that I m definitly will never preorder any game anymore - until its patched and really playable. Happens too often these days.

The Switch port is awful. Unstable 30fps in a game that has graphics from 1996, which heavily impacts the fast-paced, hardcore gameplay. The aiming controls are completely messed up and need to be fixed in a patch. Big disappointment after having played the excellent PC early access build.

    Extremely disappointed.
    No inverted controls? Really?
It's probably fine for those who use non-inverted, but for me. It's unplayable. I bought this on the switch, and can't get a refund because Nintendo's refund policy is nonexistent. The devs said it was something they overlooked because the invert controls option was in the dev kit but not in the final game. I hope someone in their QA

I've been waiting for nearly a month for the 1.05 patch on Switch. But I've completely given up on this game and 3D Realms in general. Their last good game was Duke Nukem 3D over 20 years ago.

on YouTube and reviews of this game it appears for your all high-octane action packed bullet hell fun. But in reality is not that at all 90% of the time is wandering around trying to figure out where to go being forced to look for secrets. When the action does kickoff it feels cumbersome and awkward on console due to lack of effort to adapt from the mouse controls.

I have played through the game earlier on the XSX which is super fluid and fun. However I was missing one thing from the Xbox port: Gyro aiming. After playing games like the Duke 3D 25th anniversary in a sold 60fps on the Switch, the Ion Fury port feels VERY underwhelming. The framerate drops down in the 20s more often than I would like, and that ruins the flow of the gameplay. Yes it hasI have played through the game earlier on the XSX which is super fluid and fun. Yes it has gyro aiming which is really cool, but I found that with the low framerate it really isn't that beneficial at all :/

Overall a cool game, but the low framerate really messes up the flow of the game.

Ion Fury is an amazing throw back shooter for both fans who remember playing 90's era FPS's and new fans alike. Conversely, if you never played the older games, this is a great place to dip your toes into retro shooters. You can adjust the difficulty to really dial in your experience, and the levels are open enough to let you choose how in-depth you want to get. There are tons of secrets that range from looking behind some crates to blowing through walls and platforming your way through the buildings air ducts. The levels mostly consist of key-card gated mazes, but a lot of the frustrations new players might have with the original games are smoothed over here. You don't have to deal with switches that affect some distant part of the map, leaving you backtracking for extended periods of time trying to figure out where that next nugget of progression is. For the most part, the levels are logically linked together and progress feel incredibly natural. The guns and enemies slowly increase in intensity throughout the game, with bosses thrown in every few levels to spice things up. Overall, Ion Fury is a lovingly crafted homage to its 90's era predecessors and will give old fans an enjoyable nostalgia trip and new fans a guided tour of old-school shooters. Expand

Gyro controls were jittery when i first played this, now it only works for the vertical axis. I'm sure this is fine on PC but fps games on switch just dont function well.

Retro shooters have become somewhat a big thing again more recently, and while some games like Dusk or Nightmare Reaper are proof that the genre has a lot of potential, Ion Fury feels like the opposite of that. Almost everything about this game feels very uninteresting, like it's simply trying to be the games that inspired it. Almost everything about this game feels very uninteresting, like it's simply trying to be the games that inspired it. Unfortunately, it fails to have anything that makes other examples of the genre so good; level design is entirely uninteresting, weapons feel uninteresting, enemies are simply there for the sake of it, and the entire package just feels thoughtless. While the visuals are appealing and definitely hit their mark, everything else falls flat, and leaves Ion Fury feeling like wasted potential. Expand

The battery consumption is really good! I mean slow by good. It is important for switch lite users. It's not even 20 % drain per 70 mins. Really good.
And it is 500 MB only ,could also be important for switch users without sd card in the device. Really nice tiny file size for a game this long and complex.
It has replay value as well. Oh and the save system! That is how it should work in every game.

In short: looks great, feels great, plays great :p

After the relative failure that was Duke Nukem Forever, it is great to see a game which rekindles that old classic Duke feel with a new (if not overly similar) IP. It has a number of stumbles, but if you want to take a 25-year blast-to-the-past, Ion Fury doesn’t surpass the FPS games of the age, but it does stand well against them, making it a good choice both for veterans of the age and for those new to the classic shooter style.

Ion Fury blows the Build Engine's dust off, and manages to offer something that seems to hit all the right - nostalgic - notes, but it sort of misses the most crucial ones. Gunfights feel awesome, but the level design is anything but, leading to the many quitter moments being dull as hell. Plus, Voidpoint's creation lacks character, and plays its "comedic" card a bit too safe for something that's meant to be a return to the days of Duke Nukem's political incorrectness. As for the Switch port, while currently the only way to enjoy this on the go, this is definitely something that plays a lot better on the PC.

Ion Fury is a must play experience for anybody who wants a challenge and misses the aesthetic of a ’90s first person shooter.
