Mar 6, 2017That gorgeous big screen makes for an incredible display of the game's endless winter, and if you're in the mood for the big television experience, you need only dock the console once you're back at home. The added benefit is that the game doesn't tax the Switch's battery anywhere near as badly as games like Zelda does, and I've been able to use the game to make train trips absolutely bearable with a good pair of headphones, for both the trip and the return.

Mar 13, 2017That last statement actually bears true for the whole of I Am Setsuna. Everything from the length of the game (around 25 hours), the battle system, difficult, art, music, characters — this has proven to be a treat of an experience for me and one I would happily recommend to any Switch owner.

Apr 2, 2017The Switch version of I am Setsuna looks good and feels great. It might be only 30FPS but that doesn't affect the overall experience. If you enjoyed the JRPGs from the 90s, you should not let it pass.

Jun 18, 2018There are better JRPGs that could be played portably on the GBA, DS, and Vita, but I Am Setsuna is the best JRPG that can currently be played on Nintendo Switch. The game isn't without its faults, though - namely the repetitive nature of environments, enemies, and bland NPCs. However, it has a powerful narrative that is driven by its backdrop and score; elements that should be greatly appreciated by all fans of the genre.

Apr 6, 2017One of my favourite things worth mentioning about this game is the soundtrack. It’s entirely piano pieces, with varying tempos for various situations, like exploring the overworld, or fighting in a battle. If you have Spotify, the soundtrack is on there, I highly recommend giving it a listen!

Mar 5, 2017Those not looking to take a trip down memory lane may be left wanting more, though in pure gameplay hours this offers a reasonable return on investment. The no-thrills plotline and gameplay outside of combat could have been fleshed out, leaving this one short of its full potential. I Am Setsuna could be the perfect complement to your Nintendo Switch, but if you're not foaming at the mouth with nostalgia it's certainly an optional purchase.

Apr 11, 2017I'm not disappointed I spent those 20 hours with I Am Setsuna, but isn't a great game. It's one I recommend for sure, especially on the Switch, but the dated combat, meaningless and convoluted skill systems, and iffy story drop it down into an average RPG. There is room in this world for average RPGs, just as every book you read isn't a winner. I would love to see more games like Setsuna with a little more care taken with the combat and skill systems.

Apr 15, 2017I Am Setsuna will more than certainly strike a chord with longtime JRPG fans, who will find plenty of elements to bond with this game. It doesn't quite fulfill other major ambitions and its disappointing plot, rather uninspired characters and overall repetitiveness of some aspects, especially as far as its visual component is concerned, stand on its way from breaking any grounds compared to other recent games of the same style.

Mar 6, 2017The presentation is almost as boring as the battles, which are too easy most of the time – with the exception of bosses, of course. If it wouldn’t be for the interesting story, this could have been a disaster.
