Hiragana Pixel Party is a welcome rarity: an educational game that’s both good fun and an effective learning tool. If you’ve ever wanted to read Japanese — whether for language study, travel, or playing import games — this is a great way to get started, and an enjoyable rhythm-based runner with an excellent chiptune soundtrack besides.

It's basically unplayable after the first couple of levels, because it randomizes which buttons correspond to which hiragana characters, and then it switches them every 5 seconds. Basically, to be able to get past level 3 (there are about 120 levels), then you need to be a savant at memorization, and if you're that good, then you could just quickly read a textbook and fully understand Japanese in an hour or so.

The developers did not play test this AT ALL on the Switch. It's a huge, huge waste of time and money. Absolutely do not get this game. My guess is that the good reviews all come from the PC version of this game...or people who played 10 minutes or less.

    The Switch version is garbage.
