This game is a scam. The promotional art is lovely, the trailers beautiful, the pricing indicative of a high quality product.... but the game is ****

Sure, they got a talented modeler to build the world, but it plays like a college undergrad's final project.

Poor feedback, no tutorial, bugs galore.

I got it half off for $20 and feel like I was scammed. Avoid at all costs.

Over all i love the idea of this game, but I'm at a dead end with it. I'm only on the first stage of Act 2. People complain on the difficulty level being too hard. That part I don't mind about. I do mind that the game's controls are beyond terrible which makes this game unplayable just for that. Graphics are average and the music is unmemorable. It is by far the worst Switch game I have played.

I came across the store and picked the game up because, well, I don't even know why. When I was done playing it, I was confused. VERY confused. It was a very pointless game. But when you look down on it, it's a pile of nothingness that should have stayed on the PC, and should have never ported to Nintendo's biggest console. I had no motivation to beat this stupid game that a 12 year old probably came up with. Expand

I knew someone who loved the game and liked the artstyle, so when I saw it on sale for a few bucks I grabbed it. It was a huge letdown. The controls are so awful that it's unplayable. I found a bug within a few minutes and I don't have much confidence in the rest. The "puzzles" are nonsensical.

Does this guy not have a stairwell to his upstairs? I had to look up a guide to find out that

Does this guy not have a stairwell to his upstairs? I had to look up a guide to find out that I had to break into the second floor by stacking two boxes on a ladder and throwing a tv through the window. Fine, whatever, that's a simple task. But because of how tricky the controls are IT'S NOT. It's difficult to pick objects up, by the time you pick it up you've lost a lot of time. And then the neighbor spots you so you have to run back and start over again. And it's even harder to put objects down in the right spot.

I gave up when the boxes I worked so hard to stack fell off when I tried to climb up. I might just watch a Let's Play so I can see the story, but I've given up on playing for good.

    Creepy, Terrifying, and Annoying
Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror puzzle game where you play a kid that peeks inside your neighbors window to see him locking up some door, and of course you want to see what’s going on inside..
Things are changed up a bit in this newer release of the game...
The original version there were tons of exploits for you to be able to take shortcuts and speed through parts of this game...
some exploits do exist but a few have been fixed such as the first level having a satellite dish in front of the area that everyone was jumping to and basically skipping most of the first act… however I feel the game is mostly to blame for this…
This game will take you 6 to 7 hours to go through without shortcuts or knowing locations of the keys…
The story takes place across 3 acts and one finale.. Your goal is to essentially find items and keys to help you get to new locations in an area... things start out decently simple and get more convoluted as you go one..
For some reason players and critics alike don’t really seem to like this game but I feel like it’s actually pretty neat...
there’s an interesting story here told through cut scenes and the occasional flash back moments when you die too many times, you’re getting the story of both you and your neighbor...
who by the way is doing all he can to ensure you don’t succeed in collecting these items and keys or solving the puzzles in his yard and basement..
This feels very much like an old school early 2000s game with a modern polish...
Not to say this game is polished... it has its bugs glitches and hiccups, but for what it is its pretty solid…
you’re free to explore the area completely however it’s up to you to figure out how it get into locked doors or find windows to climb through,
This old school feel and freedom is the games downfall as well..
This game explains nothing to you, it shows you a key in an attic and just lets you go... how are you going to get it… you have to figure things out on your own and for that reason many players will accidentally break the game and miss parts of it, hello neighbor does a really poor job of leading the player along or hinting towards solutions, this is what makes the game so special but what also makes it so frustrating…
This isn’t the game’s biggest problem though...
That lies in the hands of the over used neighbor...
at first dealing with this neighbor is terrifying... He means almost certain death until you figure out how to dodge and set up escape routes in case he spots you... but the problem is at least during the house sections of the game... he’s seemingly everywhere...
I’m not sure if he’s spawned into areas, but I’m almost certain he is… this means you never really get a moment away from him and therefor the game never allows tension to build... Its constant inch towards progress get caught rinse and repeat… instead of steak around his home, find out what’s going on. What you need to deal with or figure out to unlock the next part of this map, hide when he gets near and then goes back to his set path....
I think this is key to great stealth…
Sure you can disrupt paths... but the enemy should always return to their set paths and have a bit of predictability to allow the player to feel they are outsmarting the enemy rather than constant distract and run
This could’ve been a way better game with this in mind.. It has the potential to be a 3d little nightmares game…
I still enjoyed it for it was... clearly more than everyone else did...
The stealth bit of this stealth game though doesn’t really exist...
    I give Hello Neighbor
    a 6.5/10

Hello Neighbor is about some kid whos ball gets into the neighbors yard and then the neighbor catches you trying to get your ball in his yard and he proceeds to sexually assault you but does it off screen since this game is for children pretty much. When the game starts, you can just troll this idiot with his terribly scripted AI and also you can throw **** at him. It's super fun to do that and trolling this idiot is probably the most fun thing to do in this game, hands down.

The game is full of glitches and is pretty much broken. Also bad storyline. You can progress further but it is still a glitchy poopy butthole. It's a terrible game is what I'm trying to say. The game has a weird thing about showing the character getting in a car accident and having a dark past or something. One of them was you getting molested from underneath a table, he pulls you out. If you go into the neighbors yard several times after, he proceeds to molest you even more, going into his yard makes you his toy. He doesn't want to do it in your yard, but only his yard, he takes you inside and forces you to-

The best part of this game in my opinion is the garbage AI. I think it's only fun for trolling the enemy. Lets move onto the guys design real quick. It's pretty cool, gotta be honest. The whole game has a beautiful art style as a matter of fact. Bad game, but beautiful graphics. I wish there was a setting to turn off motion blur. Motion blur hurts my eyes in a lot of games, if it's something by Valve, it's completely fine, but if it's not, whoops, turning it off.

The controls are ass. F is to pick up, E is to use a door, hiding spot, etc. LMB, forgot....RMB IS TO THROW THE OBJECT FOR CHRIST SAKE, LMB SHOULD BE TO PICK UP AND RMB SHOULD BE TO THROW. NOT F AND RMB. These controls are depressing, I'm serious. Another big problem I have is the physics themselves. If you want to pick something up, it isn't like Amnesia where it, I dunno, actually works? The physics are like this, F to pick up, RMB to set/throw, setting it can go from one place to, an inch or two away from you. Throwing literally makes that object bounce back toward you, it's annoying.

The music for the chase is pretty bad. It's a constant loop of the same guitar sound effect with a noise in the background, it gets super annoying. Anyway, after this part, I'm getting to the final score since I'm tired and writing this before bed. So yeah lets just get to that final score, can't wait to show you guys how much I hate this game!

    Final score: 22%

Worse than Outlast. Only two good things, graphics, and trolling the neighbor. It's a bad game, and I'm sure nobody will agree with me. I wasted like 30 bucks on this game, I'd rather have it at about 5 dollars. It barely has any content. I am not finished with this game, it's that bad. I might go back and try reviewing this a second time. Hopefully this review was somewhat enjoyable and don't be a douche and hate me for it.

Hello Neighbor could be fun, within the right parameters. The neighbour would hold a lot more terror if his actions carried any weight. The puzzling aspect of switches, hidden doors and traps would be more enjoyable were they staged within an inspiring world or using interesting concepts. But the game fails on all of these points, not holding attention, not really projecting any fear beyond the first few encounters, and the world feels as flat as the polygons used to build it.
  2. 40
You might be able to derive some enjoyment from this game, but it requires overlooking absolutely essential elements gone awry, making Hello Neighbor very difficult to recommend. If you don’t mind solving abstract puzzles and throwing everything (including the kitchen sink) at your objectives all while constantly avoiding a particularly annoying antagonist, then you might give this game a try.

A confused, messy stealth-puzzler with flaky physics and dodgy controls. Hello Neighbor's attempt to do something fresh with a classic cinematic concept is to be applauded, but the execution falls flat. A massive missed opportunity.
