To me, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is the perfect game to snuggle up with. Even if you play for just an hour, there’s so much to do, and it’s all so relaxing. With an abundance of side quests and main quests, you’ve always got something to do.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is your new favorite cozy exploration game. While it looks similar to others in the genre, once you start playing, the truth is that there is nothing like Hello Kitty Island Adventure when it comes to exploration.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a wonderful game that distinguishes itself from the crowd and stands tall as a densely packed, enjoyable experience. Although it can use improvements in some areas, the Switch version of Hello Kitty Island Adventure is absolutely worth picking up if you’ve been looking for an Animal Crossing-like game to try out and either don’t have an iPhone or are on the fence about getting an Apple Arcade subscription and prefer one-time payments. It plays well with no major performance issues — at most, I found a slightly long loading screen. Considering the game’s size, though, I can easily forgive this.

While it may not be worth the switch for players who have been putting in time on the mobile version, given the lack of cross-save, those who are just now looking to get into Hello Kitty Island Adventure will not be disappointed. This fun Sanrio-themed adventure is all players could've asked for and more and is likely to receive support from Sunblink for years to come, making it well worth the initial investment, even for non-Sanrio fans.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is the perfect cozy time sink. Now that it is on Nintendo Switch and PC, its rich world and consistent updates will make it a part of my regular rotation.

As someone new to the Hello Kitty franchise, I have fallen in love with Hello Kitty Island Adventure. It provides the charm of an Animal Crossing game, but focuses on the exploration, creating moments of adventure and fun across the way. Taking a mine cart ride through a volcano with your friends is a blast, and wandering through a haunted house with Kuromi the goth character is hilarious. The frame rate and visuals have seen a vast improvement from previous demos. While I do wish there were more of certain activities like the dungeons, I cannot wait to log back in to see what new adventures will await my next year of updates.

At the end of the day, though, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a tropical vacation worth taking. It’s the ultimate Sanrio celebration packed with all kinds of fun for people of all ages. Sunblink has provided countless free updates since the game launched in 2023, and I’m interested to see how the team evolves these with the game out now on PC and Switch. Even if it’s Winter, now’s the perfect time to jump in and kick off your island adventure.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure may be one for the fans, however it is also quite welcoming to newbies or those seeking a fun life simulator in building this engaging experience from start to finish.

I’m a huge fan of licensed games and I was definitely in need of a calm experience. Hello Kitty Island Adventure fit the bill and ended up being a good time, as it kept me engaged with a satisfying gameplay loop and cute looks. As the weather outside remains frightful, taking a trip to this tropical paradise and meeting a few new friends is a great choice.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a cosy game I'd recommend to almost anyone, thanks to its varied activities and delightful characters.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is one of those games that could only come from Japanese culture. There aren’t many other cultures that see an inherent spirit and soul in a mascot, and to most of the rest of us, mascots are tools to use for branding and marketing, or otherwise become famous because of their association with a product like a film or a game (hello Mario and Mickey Mouse). It’s rare that a mascot IS the product. But that’s what has happened with Hello Kitty. Before today, most Kitty games came across as a cheap effort to extract more cash from that lucrative product, but Hello Kitty Island Adventure is different. This is a genuinely worthwhile use of your time, and the fact that it’s also free of predatory microtransactions is the sweetener on top.

In the case of Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Sunblink did so much to the Sanrio game since its Apple Arcade debut that the Switch release genuinely feels like a bigger, stronger, and better Animal Crossing like game.

If there’s anything about cosy gaming that appeals to you, Hello Kitty Island Adventure should undoubtedly be high on your to-play list. Developer Sunblink, in partnership with Sanrio, may have built a game on the foundations of those that have come before in the genre, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that the end result is a sunshine-filled tonic that’s sure to delight every single player who consumes it.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure proves an innovative entry into the social sim genre. While borrowing from multiple powerhouse games, it brings a fresh experience that is likely to subvert the expectations of any Animal Crossing expats looking for their next cosy fix.

Island Adventure is far from perfect, but it’s also a genuinely fun experience that, when it gets things right, it gets them very right. I wouldn’t have put 60 hours into this game if I wasn’t having fun with it. But at the same time, if I’d written this review with 20 hours of gameplay, I likely would’ve given it a lower score. As I said before, it really takes a while for Island Adventure to get going and for a substantial amount of quests and content to unlock. And even some of the very first quests you’re introduced to can’t be completed until after days of gameplay, milestones are hit, and other quests are completed first (despite being introduced much later). Patience is key with Island Adventure, but it’s well worth the wait. This is, hands down, the best licensed Sanrio game I’ve ever played and there’s a ton of opportunity to improve on the more middling aspects with future updates. But for now, it’s a fun experience for Sanrio and Animal Crossing fans that’s worth diving into.

Sweet cozy game fun for Hello Kitty fans and a young target group. Well suited for in-between times and for a relaxed pastime; but in the long run it may be negligible.

If you're craving a game to play during idle hours, be it a flight or chilling after a long day at work, it does not get much better than Hello Kitty Island Adventure. It's not good enough to take time away from that shiny new release you've waited months for, but it excels at being a constant companion without much pretense.

While Hello Kitty Island Adventure excels in creating a lively, cheerful world filled with Sanrio charm, it struggles to offer long-term engagement. The exploration and character interactions are its strongest aspects, but technical hiccups and a lack of meaningful progression detract from the experience. Despite its flaws, it’s a fun game for Sanrio fans and casual players who value a relaxing gaming experience.

For fans of Sanrio's lovable cast of characters, Hello Kitty Island Adventure might scratch an itch left in the wake of Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the broadest sense. On the surface, its large and colorful world, cutesy critters, and never-ending to-do list feel energetic and new. But sadly, that surface is all there is. A shallow pool of endless gifting and mindless tasks are locked behind daily progression gates to distract you from the fact that you are, in fact, never getting anywhere fast.

All concessions aside, though, this game sold me on Hello Kitty — a franchise I’ve always found cute but never really connected with the way others seemed to — and I think parts of it, like the fishing mechanic and the minigames, would be an excellent entry to the genre of cozy games. In my first five hours or so of gameplay, I thought that’d be the angle of my review, that this game can train you up for the less forgiving titles in the genre. But as it is right now, it feels more like a really good Hello Kitty game than a really good life sim. I’m excited to see how the game changes as updates emerge, and whether its mobile version starts to differ from the console version more over time — and even though I’m done writing this review, I certainly am not done galavanting around the island, giving gifts to my favorite Sanrio characters.

What could have been a lazy cash-in title turned out to be one of the most feature-packed, content-rich, and genuinely best-feeling cozy games I’ve ever played. No matter what type of player you are, there’s something to love about the cozy vibes on display here. [Highly Recommended]
