Hell is Other Demons is a satisfying little game that manages to provide a quick dose of adrenaline on the go. The bite-sized levels make the game easy to pick up and play. With the challenging bosses, great loadout system, and heavy emphasis on replayability, the game has a lot going for it. It’s a shame that the repetitive nature of the core gameplay made it hard to maintain genuine interest. Regardless, Hell is Other Demons is definitely worth picking up for its addictive progression system as well as its highly enjoyable combat.

There are great ideas presented in Hell is Other Demons that are hamstrung by some design flaws and technical issues, the latter of which will ideally be fixed in updates. There is a lot to enjoy in Hell is Other Demons for fans of fast-paced action games and for those with a love of 8-bit retro aesthetics, but the difficulty of the game might be off-putting to those looking for a fair challenge, rather than having to play Where's Waldo? with the enemy's bullets.

The soundtrack keeps you motivated to return after each death from a stray enemy shot. To be fair, there is a lot going on at any given time but each stage has a niche or pattern that once determined gives you the same satisfaction as games like Celeste. The stage and boss variety are great and the additional challenges (I’m looking at you “no shots fired”) keep the replay value. I’ve experienced lag/stuttering in handheld mode on the switch port less than a handful of times, which may be a dealbreaker for some. However I found this game is well worth the price tag on either steam or switch. Full Review »

Stunning visuals and an ever more impressive soundtrack. The progressions system is amazing, with some truly unique weapons and upgrades. TheStunning visuals and an ever more impressive soundtrack. The progressions system is amazing, with some truly unique weapons and upgrades. The amount of replayability is astounding, with a campaign mode, endless modes with online leaderboards and an arcade mode. There are multiple characters to unlock with unique abilities, and dozens of colour palettes, to choose from. On top of that, the game is addictive as hell (no pun intended), with a huge emphasis on the feeling of 'just one more go'. A must buy. Full Review »
