Needs more variations in the enemy designs, gets really repetitive even with the weapon mixups and skills. The story and voice acting is 10/10 and it's a unique game.

I heard good things about this. But a lot of times it’s just hype (to me). It’s not bad. The way the story revolves around your gameplay is a nice touch. Normally I would hate losing all progress and starting over. But since you can build up your character little by little it’s something I can tolerate. I am playing on the Switch so a lot of it is little characters and enemies running around. Not the most detail. I did see they made the Greek goddess Athena black. lol. It wasn’t until some podcaster mentioned how they loved that that I realized it though. If Hollywood is doing it you know gaming will. Besides, making someone’s color different is okay as long as it’s from a light skin person. Cries of white washing will happen if/when it’s the other way. Never for the other way (Annie, little mermaid, numerous comic book characters etc). Expand

Absolutely amazing game! Supergiants did it again! This game has everything - great story, amazing gameplay, wonderful graphics and incredible music. This game has everything - great story, amazing gameplay, wonderful graphics and incredible music. After many, many hours on PC (around 300 easily) I find myself starting a new game on Switch and being as engaged as the first time I've played in the early access. And of course, cross-saves is something that makes this game even better - being able to switch (pun intended) between platforms with ease. Different difficulty levels available from the start (God mode giving damage resistance which can be switched on and off at any time and Hell Mode making it harder for you from the start which you cannot turn off later) and there're very well-designed and interesting difficulty modifiers designed for the end game which will surely keep you engaged for a (long) while and which you can tailor to your skills/expectations/mood. 6 weapons to choose from, 10 Greek gods to aid you and other characters to help you on your mission. Story and dialogues are funny and well-written, and the story has its special, highly emotional moments as well. It's no surprise this game is getting so many awards and if you haven't tried it yet, you really should, simply to see for yourself what the fuss is about. And it's gonna be worth it. Enjoy! Expand

I'll keep it simple in my opinion Hades is the best current Rogue like game out there. And one of my favorite parts of the game is the fact dying is simply part of the game making it more interesting.

Hades by Supergiant Games is one of the most balanced and polished games I have ever played. It is a roguelike dungeon crawler that always gives a challenge. The game has zero balance issues as far as I've seen, and this means that even if you have the best boons and abilities you are still gonna have challenges during your run. However, this doesn't mean the game is hard to beat. At firstHades by Supergiant Games is one of the most balanced and polished games I have ever played. However, this doesn't mean the game is hard to beat. At first it is near impossible, but if you keep trying the game ends up being quite manageable and even easy. This is also one of the few games where if you do what the character would do in the game it rewards you. Zagreus, the main character, is trying to escape the Underworld and would likely try his best to escape every attempt. The game rewards this playstyle by giving more rewards for bosses which makes the game more fun as you don't have to grind and can instead just play the game.

All of the weapons are fun and unique and there is a ton of content and replayability. The story is quite good as well with some of the best voice acting I have ever seen. The art style is beautiful and detailed and the lore is expansive. The world is highly immersive since there are so many people to talk to that all react to your latest run. The only flaw in the game is the repetitive gameplay, but this is easily overlooked seeing how the gameplay loop is so much fun and very addictive. If you like roguelikes you will love this game and if you don't its still worth a try as it is likely that it is the one that pulls you into the genre.

    A Cornucopia of a story-driven rogue-light.
I've been sucked in by many a repetitive perma-death game in the past, but none have kept my total attention on as many levels as Hades. What sets the gameplay apart for me is the balance of the randomization. You're never resetting for a brokenly powerful combination of perks and buffs, almost every run seems viable to beat the final boss. And

I won't spoil anything, all I'll say is I'm 50 hours and 60 runs in and Hades' scope of gameplay options and fully voice-acted story will Not. Stop. Unfolding. A strong recommendation, even at full price.

This game is perfectly designed, for a genre in which u have to repeat areas and bosses a lot of the time it has the player always wanting to play more and receive more rewards after every run. The voice acting in this game is phenomenal, the art style is great and the music my god one of the best soundtracks in recent times. Absolutely deserves 10/10 for me.

What a ride. Not only was the gameplay exciting and thrilling, but I couldnt wait to die to go back and talk to all the characters. Hades does an excellent job as a roguelite as well. It is incredibly difficult at first with only 1 life but as you get permanent upgrades you start with more lives and more health. These permanent upgrades help you want to keep playing more when you are stuck on a difficult boss. You unlock new starting weapons as you play, which as stated above can really change gameplay style. I preferred the gun and being further away from enemies and that plays really differently than the sword.
The graphics and music just ooze style. It's kind of a cel shaded/ cartoony look that kind of feels like a graphic novel about the underworld. The voice acting is generally well done too.
Even if you are unusually not a fan of roguelite games, I would highly recommend this game. It might change your mind. If your already a fan, this is the best example in my mind.
Scorewise, it may not be a perfect game but I am still giving it a 10. For the cost of this game and the amount of fun it is and its potential for replayabilty, it truly is excellent and everyone should try it.

    Excellent game.
Ergonomic, great detailed and colourful graphics, excellent music (even if I'm not a heavy metal fan), its setting in the underworld of Greek mythology and its humour (especially the protagonist's dry remarks) set up a mix that could only please me.

I also think this game did a great job with the progression system - the several different types of unlocks that you’re working toward gives a hint of that addictive grind while giving you a rewarding amount of story progression. Where the game is the weakest is the gameplay itself. It’s not bad, but after about 5 hours of playtime, it begins to feel like it’s more button mashing than anything else. It would be a game that would be fun with another person, but playing it alone makes you really start noticing the lack of precision and the over reliance on semi-mindless button mashing. Though I had a lot of fun and have returned to it for a second time, I find it to be overhyped because the exceptional presentation overshadows the simple gameplay, even by standards set by other rogue like games. Despite how long I’ve been ranting here, there’s plenty more I could say about Hades. But honestly, I feel it’s best you discover for yourself why I’m so enamored of Supergiant’s latest adventure. Though the game isn’t quite perfect, it truly earned the accolades it’s been receiving. And honestly, if they decide to implement some additional content later on, most of my complaints would be rendered moot. This is honestly my favorite game yet by Supergiant Games, and easily one of my favorite indies of 2020. If you love rogue and need something new to enjoy, be sure to put this one on your wishlist.
