Gunslingers & Zombies does a good job of delivering on a simple premise while having a unique visual style. It just isn’t the best port out there, and it left me feeling like something was missing.

Gunslingers and Zombies is such a simple game to enjoy. It’s filled with a few weapons, plenty of planning, and a bunch of zombies to demolish. The game does require a little planning to survive each level and move forward. The challenging part occurs as you move on and go through different waves or goals needed to be done. However, it is still a very easy game to pick up and play, perfect for beginner strategy gamers. So if you are up to saving the town and love strategy games, then get ready to shoot down and stab every last zombie in the west.

At its surface, Gunslingers & Zombies is a run-of-the-mill tactical RPG with some performance issues. In spite of these concerns, the end result is still a fairly enjoyable experience for fans of the genre.

On a mechanical level, Gunslingers & Zombies does its job. You have several things to consider, such as the range of your weapons, available ammo, the direction from which you are attacking, and whether to use your action points on taking the offensive or to save some for overwatch defense. Nothing you won’t have seen before, but it’s all competently implemented to provide a reasonably satisfying, light tactical experience. If you’re looking for a turn-based tactical Western-themed game on your Switch… well, buy Hard West first. But if you’re looking for a second one? This isn’t bad.

Gunslingers & Zombies gameplay and visuals are better than this score would suggest. It's just let down by awkward controls, worse camera angles, and other evidence of a generally uninterested PC port. There's a better game out there on PC that might be more fun than paying more for a Switch version that really didn't care enough to take advantage of anything that makes the Switch good.
