    This game is a absolutely great experience. Tight controls, satisfying combat, a clear map, and enjoyable enemies, this game is a must play for any fans of metroidvanias. They definitely upped the difficultly in platforming (especially for the non-mandatory parts of the game), but still enjoyable. Biggest gripe is the final boss is a bit lackluster compared to the first guacamelee.

    Lovely game that surpasses the original. The only thing I am not crazy about with the game is that it goes a little long in some sections.

    PROS: - IT'S STILL GUACAMELEE: This game doesn't just look as good as the first one. It also maintains its central mechanic: the combat moveset doubles as movement commands.     PROS:

    - IT'S STILL GUACAMELEE: This game doesn't just look as good as the first one. It also maintains its central mechanic: the combat moveset doubles as movement commands. This trick was, and still is, a strike of genius.

    - AS TOUGH AS YOU WANT TO MAKE IT: You don't have to–but of you're willing to collect every treasure, you should be prepared for a stiff challenge. Many platforming sections are complicated enough to feel like extremely dynamic puzzles.

    - FANTASTIC FOR COUCH CO-OP: Guacamelee was great with two players. Guacamelee 2 supports three, and they can drop in and out freely throughout the campaign. This is one of the best couch co-op experiences for the Switch.

    CONS:

    - IT'S *STILL* GUACAMELEE: As good as this game is, it doesn't really improve over the original. The skill trees are a nice addition, but they don't change the feeling of the game. All in all, this sequel runs the risk of feeling like more of the same.

    - HIT-AND-MISS HUMOR: This is series is known for breaking the fourth wall. Guacamelee 2 goes even beyond that, with a constant stream of in-jokes and an over-the-top "Mexiverse" narrative. The dorky humor is generally nice, but having the silliness perpetually dialed up to 11 gets to feel tiresome.

    In conclusion, Guacamelee 2 is still a no-brainer for fans of the first game–only don't expect anything new. If you're new to the series, then both games are equally recommended.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Basically just a second helping of the first game, but what a helping!
    Some aspects are even more fleshed out, particularly the chicken phases and also the platforming parts which have become more technical.
    When video game references were just present as posters and such in the predecessor, here they additionally appear in some parts of the gameplay: Street Fighter II where you destroy a car (two Mexican Beetles in this case), Pac-Man and turn based RPGs in general.

    All in all this sequel is beefier than the first instalment. Though unfortunately the jokes have become slightly blander and there are too many references to Gringo pop culture interfering with the Mexican atmosphere, probably due to the general topic of multiple universes beloved in Sci-Fi circles.
    Finally, apart from one or two one-liners, voice acting is still missing. I would have loved a thick Mexican accent or Spanish with subtitles accompanying the game.    … Expand

    Just another pathetic excuse for a main platform game that looks like it was designed for a mobile app. Anyone who likes platformers should take their autism meds and strap in for a ride!

    If you liked the first game, you are going to like that one more. I played it in coop with my wife and we had a ton of fun. The metroidvania formula is done perfectly with smooth platforming, good fights and upgrades that are satisfying to get and use later on. The plot is simple but the characters and humor are great.     It's a better version of the first game. Still humorous dialogues, better visuals, combat (even though it could still be better), soundtrack and platforming. I personally recommend it. It's very polished game that worths your time.

    Even funnier than the first game with more advanced platforming and combat. And the platforming is no joke. It's challenging and makes use of every skill, but doesn't feel cheap. Still wish there were more wrestling moves, but it is a super fun time.

The story was really uninspired and anticlimactic, with the final boss posing no challenge whatsoever. They of course stuck with the main mechanics of the first game, which is fine, and added a few extra moves in the mix.     5 years, Guacamelee! 2 comes out, and it's pretty much the same. Less memes this time, however. The story is still    I quite liked the first Guacamelee!, so this was a day 1 purchase for me. The first game offered good brawling mechanics, fun skills that opened up exploration, and light hearted story with tons of memes. I liked the memes. It took me about 12-13 hours to finish on 100%.

    The story is still very light, I mean there's no character development or real story arc, but that's okay. The dialog is usually funny enough to keep me invested.

    The brawling mechanics are largely unchanged, though the new pollo powers are pretty fun. Gameplay-wise, I'd say the platforming is harder than in the first game, but my memory may not serve me well. The battles are a bit easier, the Jaguar Javier fight from the first game was the biggest highlight for me, with the Caverna del Pollo challenges being another. This time, there are no mandatory boss fights that really stand out, and no equivalent to the Caverna, which was disappointing. The best boss fight still involves Jaguar Javier, but it's an optional one, so meh. The final boss is still underwhelming.

    Some of the platforming I've found pretty frustrating, the lava run and the Crucible being 2 notable areas that got me really riled up. I don't remember being this frustrated by the first game, but again, that may be the rose tinted nostalgia goggles. The chupacabras used to piss me off, but they're much more manageable this time.

    The level design is a bit more predictable this time around, with most bonus rooms right besides the main path. There's not much backtracking to do, which is good, but at the same time I didn't feel the excitement of getting a new skill and revisiting all these areas that held secrets, because there aren't that many secrets to be found.

    Still, these shortcomings aside, I quite like Guacamelee! 2. The quirky presentation, interesting combat, exploration, and reasonable length make it an enjoyable game.

    TL;DR : Combat less frustrating than in 1, platforming more frustrating than 1, still good game. Tarzan buy.    … Expand

    Weird reductionist puns aside, why am I settling for gameplay with such needlessly precise inputs? After a while, with the bright colors and strange combo chains you have to execute to do most of the platforming, you start    I really disliked playing this game, and not just because it constantly made me ask, "wait, is this racist? I... I think it might be? I'm definitely uncomfortable."

    Weird reductionist puns aside, why am I settling for gameplay with such needlessly precise inputs? After a while, with the bright colors and strange combo chains you have to execute to do most of the platforming, you start to realize you're playing that light up Simon Says toy or a Bop-It, not a Metroidvania.

    The gamefeel is clunky, the enemies are not satisfying to combo, and the midair/dodge roll mechanic is poorly implemented.

    Guacamelee 2 supera o original em todos os sentidos, trazendo desafios e gráficos muito lindos! Vale muito a pena se aventurar nesse belíssimo jogo onde tem o pano de fundo o dia de los muertos! Imperdível!!!

This game is even more hilarious, making me pause the game so I could finish laughing and get back to the combat. The story is even more understandable in this game, with clear objectives and goals.     Guacamelee! 2 feels just as good as its predecessor overall. Some of the hardest sections can be even more frustrating than the hardest challenges found in the original, but this is somewhat counterbalanced by the fact that it does streamline a lot of things that were more complicated than they really needed to be.

    Guacamelee! 2 is a brilliant continuation of Juan's story. It's largely more of the same, but when the gameplay and visual design is this good, there's little need to change it. Yet another fine example of the Metroidvania genre.
