This ingenious blend of RPG mechanics, visual novel-style storytelling, and deck-building roguelike gameplay is a beautiful recipe for a kind of game I never knew I wanted. Even though I’ve already spent the past week getting through each of Griftlands’ campaigns multiple times, I’m still looking forward to my next run – and the run after that. Campaigns are short and challenging, making them highly replayable and memorable adventures that reward your time. It’s kinda absurd that such an eclectic group of mechanics work together in such harmony, but once you’re bitten by their charms it’s quite hard to put Griftlands down.

Griftlands’ successful experiments in branching narrative, combined with a deckbuilding system that ranks among the genre’s richest, make it one of my favorite roguelikes to date. Whether I’d recommend it on Switch, however, is another matter. Roguelikes sing on handhelds, but anyone opting to experience Griftlands on Nintendo’s hardware is setting themselves up for a massive learning curve that may turn prospective players off. One way or another, though, Griftlands is a title that deserves every roguelike fan’s attention.

This game has now been successfully patched and you must try this if you are a fan of Slay the Spire! I love the art-style, the branching story, the dialogue, the characters! It is so much fun spending time in this world! There is so much depth here and it has all been thought out so carefully and thoroughly. Everything you do has consequences which prompts you to think carefully about every decision you make. While this game is deeper than Slay the Spire, the runs are also much longer (5-6 hours) so you will need to take breaks as you play. It also has a 'story' mode which allows you to explore the game under more forgiving conditions without having to obsess over all of the mechanics at once. If you like Slay the Spire, Griftlands is highly recommended! Full Review »

When itIf you're a bit thick like me, it might take you a while to understand what the heck's going on in regard to the gameplay mechanics. When it does all fall into place this really is a great game, the two types of battles are really involving and the dialogue between characters can be pretty funny.
if you buy this game i'd say you need to spend a good couple of hours getting to grips with the terminology and gameplay etc. before deciding if it's **** or not.
