Sep 9, 2019Both Grandia games deserved a much better treatment than the one GungHo gave them, and we really hope the publisher will support the game in the coming weeks, but the sheer value of the titles inside this package is enough to recommend a buy nonetheless for any Switch owner.

Aug 30, 2019Grandia HD Collection has a few issues but in spite of these is a still a worthwhile addition to any JRPG fan’s collection. The two games are classic gems that flew under many people’s radar during their initial release but are also fun even if this is the first time playing them. There are minor modernization tweaks to the titles and some technical issues do mar the experience, but even with these concessions, having these two titles available to play on the go is hard to complain about. They show their age and have some flaws, but their good outweighs their bad and each title provides a different but memorable adventure.

Aug 23, 2019Grandia HD Collection is a wonderful entry point into a criminally under-discussed JRPG series. Both games are absolute classics, featuring wonderful characters, inventive gameplay and really astounding writing. Die-hard fans might take issue with the updated nature of the sprites in Grandia 1. Every player out there, meanwhile, is likely to be turned off by the constant performance issues of Grandia 2. This isn't a perfect release, but the pros still far outweigh the cons when it comes to having an accessible way to play these old-school gems.

Aug 21, 2019These are thrilling tales of adventure with witty writing, charming characters, and plots that will constantly surprise you. The gameplay is fun, but simple at the same time. There’s never a dull moment with these two games, and they’re beloved for just that reason.

Sep 11, 2019Overall the Grandia HD Collection is a good one, and if you enjoyed the original game, this is a great version of the release. Grandia II by comparison didn’t get much in terms of upgrades aside from the Japanese voice acting, so it pulls down the overall package somewhat.

Aug 27, 2019With Grandia HD Collection, GungHo had everything to succeed. And if both adventures still offers a strong experience, the game is filled with way too much bugs in every aspect to deliver a satisfying experience. Filled with errors, the new French translation rubs shoulders with crashes and audio inconsistencies. Too bad, because the gameplay mechanics are still interesting, decades later.

Aug 25, 2019It both succeeds and fails for entirely different reasons. The timeless quality and fun factor of the two games included make it unfair to give this one a low score, yet the shoddy work done on the porting and remastering holds it back from being worthy of a high one. On the whole, we’d give Grandia HD Collection a light recommendation, as it’s a great way both for newcomers to see what the fuss is about and for veterans to take a trip down memory lane. However, we say this with the caveat that you should probably wait for a sale and for the developers to deploy some patches to fix all the broken parts. The Grandia games deserve a much better remastering treatment than they’ve been given here, but Grandia HD Collection is nonetheless a respectable release.

Aug 20, 2019Grandia HD Collection is a hefty reminder of what a clever, heartfelt, unique JRPG experience looks like. Square Enix could stand to take notes. I have a history of starting Grandia and never finishing it, so I'm appreciating the chance to finally get through it. It's still really good. Holds up terrifically, with a famous battle system that feels as fresh as it ever did. Great game... albeit one that really shows off in the graphics department, sometimes a bit too much.

Aug 17, 2019Great ports of amazing & timeless games. Though seemingly pricey, there’s 100’s of hours of content. Physical edition would be nice, however.
