The 2D golf aesthetic serves only to facilitate a surprisingly poignant visual and aural experience that plays out through a brilliant radio broadcast themed soundtrack. The golf mechanics, unfortunately, rely on trial and error, but precision gameplay is not its intention. The game’s short but makes a distinct emotional impact.

This is one of those titles where the name of the game may lead you astray, though I will admit that it is generally accurate. Less of a sports title and more of a forward reflection of our world’s demise you’ll play as a sort of tourist visiting the ruins of civilization of Earth to shoot some holes. The majority of the entertainment and opportunities to understand the state of the world come in the form of the local radio station that both plays some tunes and recounts tidbits about what went wrong. The golfing itself is a bit on the simplistic side, though to do well you will need to learn what nuances there are. Thankfully you can opt for one of three modes that will dictate how well you’ll need to do to proceed so if you want to just be along for the ride that’ll work, and if you opt for the toughest mode be ready for some frustrations for sure. Coming in with a budget asking price it’s absolutely a unique experience, just be sure you understand what you’re in for before plunking down to pick it up on the eShop.

This is an incredible aural experience. I loved it so much, I got the wife playing it. What's on display here is the presentation, and believe me when I say that I'm not usually the kind of guy to care about such things (can't stand games like Flower, Journey, etc.). The golf itself is simplistic and noob-friendly (like a party game). It seems to mainly serve as a wrapper for the audio experience (and the unique premise of playing on post-apocalyptic Earth). I would not have it any other way! You play a level of one hole and then move onto the next stage to play another hole. The game is simple and good fun. I am enamored by the audio presentation to such a level that I plan on purchasing the soundtrack immediately after posting this review. Honestly, I would not change a thing about this game. I am excited to see what else this studio will do in future. Expand

With the Earth a wasteland the ultra rich colonists that now live on Mars visit the planet to play golf amongst the ruins.

The golf itself is overly simplistic and often relies too much on trial and error, but Golf Club Wasteland still makes for a relatively memorable experience thanks to it’s original soundtrack and the haunting story told through the in game radio station.

A delightful and mournful experience. The golf "platforming" is fun, but what shines is the presentation. The fictional radio station is worth the price of entry by itself, and the unlockable diary entries are lovely.

Very short and play-wise mediocre, even in its Challenge mode where you only have a limited number of golf strokes permitted, this game shines with its story and post-apocalyptic atmosphere, both perfectly accompanied by the sounds of "Radio Nostalgia from Mars".

Chilly short game. I liked sounds and visuals . There is unique story and diary notes to unlock.

If worse comes to worst and we face the actual end of human civilization here on planet Earth, don't worry! You'll be able to book passage off-world – you just need to happen to be one of the most disgustingly rich people alive. Then you'll be all set! [Issue #58 – March/April 2022, p. 24]

There’s a lot to discover and uncover in Golf Club: Wasteland. Each course offers rewards in the form of log entries, detailing the events that lead the character you play as to where he is now. The game may not be super long, but a lot of love is clearly present from the development team. If you’re looking for a calm game to just kick back, put on some headphones and just play, few get to nearly the same level of peacefulness.

This is a very enjoyable adventure that successfully combines something as different as playing golf and the end of humanity.
