In all, Golden Force was unfortunately pretty disappointing. It would already be hard for this one to stand out, even if it was heavily polished, because there’s no hook besides the strange humour of murdering cats in a bloody shower of guts and naming all of the bosses after Mexican foods. But with all the bugs and design issues piled on top it probably has very little chance. One can only hope that the team will be able to iterate and improve if there’s ever a sequel, spiritual or otherwise, much like how the Shantae series (which gives off similar vibes) has progressed.

Golden Force makes too many missteps to recommend it, especially on the Nintendo Switch. It's entirely possible that other versions of the game run better, as was the case with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night when it first released, but that remains to be seen. But even if the game ran perfectly, Golden Force would still be saddled with an unrewarding progression system and frustrating level design meant to bombard players with cheap deaths. Those looking for their retro gaming fix should look elsewhere.

The controls are way imprecise, in Boss fights the game expects that you dodge and attack with a good timing however the controls are sub-par and you will get frustraded because 8 of 10 deaths it will be the controls fault, also the game does not have good hit-boxes so yeah, it is pretty frustruating when you keep dying and dying because of either the bad hit-boxes or the sub-par controllers.

This game is a platformer however there are some segments in almost all levels in where the screen keeps static and you will need to fight against hordes of enemies, this does not feel nice and it only slowdown the game pace because you need several strikes in order to defeat some of the bigger monsters.

It's made to be a difficult game, but does so in many terrible ways. You will likely take hits from very cheap mechanics like an enemy spawning from right under you, moving into an enemy from your combo and taking damage from touching them, or some few attacks that just don't telegraph properly. Level design could be improved as well with plentiful leaps of faith and some death pits that the game leads you into, sometimes even with coins leading to them. Performance also takes a hit when lots of coins are on screen or being collected or large numbers of enemies. Despite these flaws I've yet to find it so difficult that a bit of perseverance can't overcome it but it never feels good to die from cheap hits.

Tl;dr cheap difficulty from attacks and level design with some decent gameplay underneath. Not worth the near the full price in my opinion, wait for sale or pass.
