May 2, 2019GIGA WRECKER ALT is a physics bases puzzler with a gorgeous design and challenging combat that’ll leave you begging for more just as much as it’ll make you grit your teeth every time you fail.
-
May 6, 2019Giga Wrecker Alt. is a metroidvania with excellent platform components and puzzle solving through the use of physics. Thus, its unusual artistic section and its dark setting make it the most adult title of Game Freak to date and one that will please those who seek something different.
-
Apr 30, 2019Giga Wrecker Alt. is still a solid Metroidvania game, even though we're getting more of them nowadays. Even though the collision and physics can sometimes be wonky, the puzzle platforming is inventive and matches well with the combat, which goes at a nice flow once you master the rhythm of the controls. Despite some blurry parts here and there, the graphical art style is good, and the soundtrack is absolutely perfect for the genre. The additions made at the sacrifice of the level builder are worth the exchange, so adventure fans will find Giga Wrecker Alt. to be well worth checking out.

Apr 29, 2019Giga Wrecker Alt. is a fun action platformer that represents a fresh direction for Game Freak outside of the Pokémon realm. The game lacks in combative and traversal actions for its protagonist and doesn’t have the tightest controls. But it satisfies in level design and the unique way in which Reika interacts with the environment to solve puzzles and push forward in her quest.

Jul 8, 2019Giga Wrecker Alt is a pretty cool game. It has some issues and likely won’t compel all players to keep going, but the puzzles are good, and getting to throw a ton of junk to smash a robot is always fun. The game looks good, sounds good, and offers plenty of play time, so get in there and wreck it.
-
Apr 29, 2019Pokemon developer Game Freak created an original and fun experience. this is a fine mix between environmental puzzles and entertaining narrative about machine invaders. the game will last 10-15 hours and it is a good value overall.
-
Apr 29, 2019Game Freak know how to make games with that little something that absorbs you. Giga Wrecker isn’t flawless, but we’ve enjoyed this adventure a lot, and we recommend it to all metroidvania fans.
-
Apr 26, 2019A good metroidvania that proves that Game Freak is able to make different types of games than Pokémon, despite the fact that it's not visually interesting and even confusing at times.
-
May 17, 2019Giga Wrecker ALT. has some cool ideas, a good level design and even cooler physics, but is hampered by floaty controls and a basic combat system. Recommended, but not without caveats.
-
Apr 29, 2019Unsteady motion requires forgiveness. Exacting movement demands precision. Giga Wrecker Alt’s puzzle-platforming wants to have it both ways and gets trapped between frustration and satisfaction. For all of its inventive mechanics and generous agency, Giga Wrecker Alt could have benefited from more clarity and cohesion.
-
Apr 28, 2019When it's not giving the world more reasons to 'Catch 'Em All', Game Freak continues to deliver interesting and unexpected forays into other genres. Much like Tembo the Badass Elephant before it, Giga Wrecker Alt. is a quirky left-turn that takes the exploration staples of a 2D Metroidvania and combines it with a destructible environment puzzle system for some creative and hugely rewarding puzzles. Combat is quite forgettable, but sucker-punching a boss with a giant ball can be ridiculous fun when you pull it off. It's looks might not be that memorable, but it's still a worthy way to make a mess on Switch.
-
Jun 3, 2019Giga Wrecker Alt. is a bit of a mixed bag, and it's hard to see just who would get the most out of it. There are some great elements in here. Some really great ideas. The sad truth is, it's a pretty poor execution of so many promising elements. The flawed controls, combined with the major issues on establishing how and where to progress makes ultimately for a pretty frustrating experience. Not the good type of frustrating, where a roar and a smile inspires a confidence to overcome. The sort of frustration to lead to just wanting to dump the game.
-
May 25, 2019GIGA WRECKER Alt. brings a good dose of action, platforming, exploration and puzzling to a metroidvania style of game. Its threshold doesn't go too high, as the game is not an instant classic or a ground-breaking gem but GIGA WRECKER Alt. does a decent job at providing a fun and enjoyable gameplay experience.
-
Apr 30, 2019Despite a lack of originality and questionable controls I found myself coming back to Giga Wrecker Alt to tackle that puzzle, overcome that boss or just explore its world. If you are looking for a ground breaking new entry in Game Freak's reserve or something similar to the Pokémon titles then this may not be the title for you. However, Game Freak's team has stepped out of their comfort zone and developed a game with some rather satisfying qualities which may just tide you over.
-
Apr 26, 2019GIGA WRECKER ALT. lacks the charm and fun of previous Game Freak titles. I found playing through it more of a slog than a fun way to spend a dozen hours.
-
May 14, 2019It’s all well and good to have a solid, proven design, and some interesting ideas for plot, aesthetic and gameplay, but when you’re slapped at every turn by slippery controls and difficult visuals it makes things very, very frustrating. Dying repeatedly doing tedious single jumps in not-particularly-challenging levels sure Wrecked my Giga. I don’t think it’s impossible to have fun here, but I’d recommend seeking out a better Alt-ernative.
-
May 1, 2019Creators of Pokémon or not, some interesting ideas can’t override the terrible execution in this staggeringly ugly 2D platformer.
