Whilst Everspace does repeat itself, you can quickly brush through the more repetitive aspects in favour of its combat. This is where the game focuses and it is pretty great, with plenty of options to choose from when you happen upon them. If a little repetition doesn't put you off, then you could probably do worse than Everspace on Switch.

Everspace: Stellar Edition isn’t the best 3D space shooter or roguelike available, but it’s a relatively unique and successful fusion of the two genres. Repetitiveness aside, you may just find yourself hooked by the game’s tight combat controls and satisfying progression loop. Unfortunately, the Switch isn’t the best way to play the game, unless portability is your top concern. Everspace for Switch isn’t for everybody, but if you fall into the game’s relatively narrow niche, a galaxy of die and retry fun awaits.

While I might have aimed a little high with my expectations for Everspace, as a fan of the space combat genre, it ultimately is enjoyable.

I really want to be able to recommend Everspace – Stellar Edition on the Switch, but playing it makes me really just want to go pick the game up for PC.

An amazing randomly generated space shooter, and better yet it's on switch. The ship feels great to control and the objectives are fun. There is a genuine sense of wonder as you explore each procedurally generated sector, harvesting materials, crafting items and collecting credits to spend on permanent enhancements ahead of your next run. I enjoyed the fact that you just 'jump in' and learn as you go - it is all pretty intuitive and a run only last about half an hour, which gives you lots of freedom to experiment with crafting, trading and using new items. There are also some interesting story threads and 'quests' to work through in later runs. I'm not sure if I'll finish this game or not, but I only spent $15 on it, and so far that is money very well spent! Full Review »
