Personally, i am really enjoying my time with Empire of Sin on Switch. Performance is mostly great, even the loading times between levels of the city are flawless, and scrolling fast or rotating the camera fast, things that normally cause lags in "map games" are working with constant FPS. I encountered some bugs, but just the usual stuff in an open world RPG, e.g. some characters buggingPersonally, i am really enjoying my time with Empire of Sin on Switch. Performance is mostly great, even the loading times between levels of the city are flawless, and scrolling fast or rotating the camera fast, things that normally cause lags in "map games" are working with constant FPS. I encountered some bugs, but just the usual stuff in an open world RPG, e.g. some characters bugging out, some quests bugging out, especially if multiple things happen at once. Think similar bugs in games like Skyrim or witcher, that result from the sandbox nature of the game. They are annoying and sometimes mean you have to load an earlier save, which sucks but isn't the biggest deal.

Content-wise, the medium difficulty is a bit on the easier side. In the early game there are a lot of quests, which are great and present the personalities of the NPCs. In the late game there could be more of those to mix up the expansion of your empire. There is a lot of minmaxing and micromanagement to be had in the economy aspect of the game, although the AI could be a bit more aggressive in attacking you, to make securing that economy more important. The combat is so far satisfying enough, although the normal encounters with generic baddies are a bit too easy. Assaulting safehouses on the other hand is great - challenging, has roleplaying implications and drama.
Overall it is a great experience for people liking paradox games, total war games, or civilization and provides more of an RPG experience than i had thought.

I honestly don’t think Empire of Sin knows what it wants to be. It seems like it wants to be something like Mafia or even Grand Theft Auto, but assumed a game about micromanaging criminal enterprises needed to play like X-Com. It shouldn’t have been this hard to make a mafia game this uninteresting but Romero Games sure found a way. Do yourself a favor and just skip this one.

Empire of Sin is ambitious and features a blending of genres and ideas that can be described as very interesting. Unfortunately the way they come together and work as a game is an utter disappointment at best, and frustrating at worst. The poor visual performance could still be acceptable if the other components displayed more qualities, but a mediocre AI, some unsolved technical issues - even after several updates - and the redundancy of one of its major dimensions make Empire of Sin a passable and uninteresting effort.

There are a lot of good things in Empire of Sin. The combat has a lot of room for variable play styles. The diplomacy systems make every play through unique. I love the neighborhoods they crafted. This is a game built around the idea that emergent gameplay is fun, and it is. That’s why the technical problems are such a bummer. Empire of Sin is a good game, but the Nintendo Switch is the worst place to play it.
