    I had forgotten how much I love this game. Everything is so solid that this is one of the best platformers out there to date. The controls are very intuitive and responsive, visuals are awe inspiring, and the musical score is fantastic. It's also a very challenging game packed with worthy collectables, and now it's also accessible for younger or more casual audiences with the addition ofI had forgotten how much I love this game.     You know, "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze" was another game I didn't give enough love to when it was first released on the Wii U. I definitely bought and enjoyed it, but I didn't get to far in it, and a bunch of other games ended up taking my time from me. With the recent Switch release, I definitely wanted to give it another chance and see if it was as good as the reviews made itYou know, "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze" was another game I didn't give enough love to when it was first released on the Wii U. I definitely bought and enjoyed it, but I didn't get to far in it, and a bunch of other games ended up taking my time from me. With the recent Switch release, I definitely wanted to give it another chance and see if it was as good as the reviews made it out to be. And, sure enough, the game is excellent!
    "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze" is an incredible 2.5D platformer. Great challenge, excellent platforming sections, plenty of gameplay variety, gorgeous visuals, the list goes on and on. The game really does have everything going for it, and while there's been much discussion on the game's difficulty, I can appreciate a game like this, where the difficulty doesn't feel like "fake difficulty." This isn't a case where the difficulty of the game is curved because of unfair/broken game design, it's a game that actually provides a very real, honest-to-God challenge, and it's all the better for it. The Switch version's added "Funky Mode" also helps ease that just a little bit, without taking too much away from it.
    The big question turns to this, of course: seeing as this is a port for the Switch, is it worth grabbing if you already own it for the Wii U? Well, I have the Wii U and Switch versions and I don't regret grabbing this one, but it depends on whether "Funky Mode" actually sounds enticing to you. If you own the Wii U version and want to experience it again (without getting your ass whooped quite as hard), this comes highly recommended. If you own the Wii U version and don't care for a slightly easier experience, stick with that one. If you haven't played the game at all...well, do yourself a favor! "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze" is an excellent platformer and you won't regret spending your time with it!

    A truly magical, wonder, amazing 2D platformer. Rewarding, challenging, amazing. And for the love of christ TURN off the Funky Kong mode and play it the way it's meant to be played. Dont underestimate your 7 year old. They are better than you think and will get great playing the real deal, not a mode with training wheels.

    the only thing i will say is tha Retro studios took Metroid and brought 10 out of 10 game and revolutionary the franchise and the metroidvania genre. They did exactly the same with DK now give them F ZeRO. Jus t give them F zero right now, who knows what they will do. Cant believe it...

    I grew up playing the first Donkey Kong Country on the SNES, so I might be a bit biased because of all the nostalgia attacks. I also loved Donkey Kong Country Returns for the original Wii, but I love Tropical Freeze maybe a bit more than that one. If you're a completionist and want to find every secret like I do than this game will challenge you. I've only played up until world 3 and bothI grew up playing the first Donkey Kong Country on the SNES, so I might be a bit biased because of all the nostalgia attacks. I've only played up until world 3 and both bossfights I had were really challenging (but not frustrating at all) If I have to nitpick I would say that I would've loved a sprint button since the originals on SNES had them if I'm not mistaken. Sometimes I try to make a jump but because DK feels so heavy to control if you don't roll before a jump or walk a little bit before your jump, you'll fall straight to your death.
    All in all a beautiful game that captures the classic games to a T    … Expand

    Excellent platformer that is fun, challenging, good looking, and never feels unfair.
    I suppose one can argue that it is expensive, given that it is in fact a few years old... I probably wouldn't buy it if I had already played it on the wii, but as a new player all I can say is that its great.

Sorry about that, but they don't have quite the amount of "organic level design" DKCTF has, if you've seen Mark Brown and Turbo Button's level analysis videos on this game, you'd know this game juggles level mechanics seamlessly. Also I didn't even touch on David Wise's excellent score, if you haven'tLiterally the best 2D Platformer I've ever played, Mega Man X? Super Mario Bros. 3? Sorry about that, but they don't have quite the amount of "organic level design" DKCTF has, if you've seen Mark Brown and Turbo Button's level analysis videos on this game, you'd know this game juggles level mechanics seamlessly.     10 out of 10 might seem excessive but I still keep returning to this game trying to beat the near impossible hard mode.

It's better than all of the New Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Country, and Little Big Planet games. And those are generally considered among the best. I'd even rank it above the recent Sonic Mania. Though it's debatable as to whether it surpasses Super Mario World.Tropical Freeze may be the best 2D platform game ever made. It's definitely the best 2D platformer since the 16-bit era.     The level design is brilliant and running in 1080p/60fps(with zero frame rate drops), the game is gorgeous. The jump from 720p to 1080p makes it look like a modern game instead of a Wii U game. Kirby would be better looking, but it's ruined by the 868p/30fps. One odd thing is that it doesn't run in 720p in portable mode. Breath of the Wild ran in 900p in docked mode and still managed 720p in portable mode. So docked mode is definitely the better way to play it. Nonetheless, it does look good in docked mode. I haven't touched on the bosses yet, the boss battles are very long with lots of stages. Frankly, this game has some of the most well designed boss battles I've seen.

    The game adds Funky Kong mode. Funky Kong is basically an overpowered character, with a unique moveset that allows him to zoom through levels and do crazy stunts. This actually makes him really fun to play. I did play with Funky Kong first so I would have a reason to replay the game. This is easy mode done properly. Instead of just giving you more HP, they give you a unique character. I'm guessing the significantly higher critic score is because they liked the easier difficulty, seeing as we all know critics suck at playing games. Since Tropical Freeze is already a very tough platformer, Funky Kong mode is still not "easy". It remains tougher than New Super Mario Bros. People who play a lot of platform games or like difficult games will definitely want to skip Funky Kong mode, though. Also, the increased HP of Funky Kong makes boss battles too easy. You can Switch to Donkey Kong during Funky Kong mode, but you'll have 3 HP with Donkey Kong, and 6 HP with one of his 3 allies.

    Tropical Freeze may not be worth getting if you played the Wii U version. But seeing as less than 2 million people got the Wii U version, and the Switch has sold over 18 million units, there are at least 16 million Switch owners who have not played this game. Get this game if you haven't played it before. Even if you don't like hard platform games, the addition of Funky Kong mode provides a some challenge without getting frustrating.    … Expand

    This is the best platformer that will please you with interesting gameplay, beautiful graphics, interesting levels with a lot of secrets. Tropical Freeze proved to be very convenient to play in portable mode, exploring the environment, opening secret areas and collecting all the items, which with its uncluttered levels makes the game optimal for public transport and travel. Definitely 10 points!

    The second best donkey kong game after DKC2 for the SNES. if you never played it on the WiiU, its about time to play it on the switch. is incredibly hard, challenging and with one of the best level designs I've seen. Beautiful music. This game is simple fantastic.

    Best Platformer ever made so far. It's a little too easy at first, but the game is extremely challenging later on. Definitely an advanced platformer. It gets a 10 for being the best Donkey Kong game ever made.

Each level is different from another, always and continuously pumping out new themes and ideas that function well with the players control. Simple put, even if you had this on Wii U, its worth buying again. It is truly a masterful 2d platforming experience that in my opinion even puts Mario's 2d games to shame... but only just. 10/10… Expand

    Este juego me recuerda esas viejas épocas en que salía del colegio y llegaba a mi casa a jugar el Donkey Kong Country 2 en mi SNES y es una verdadera alegría poder disfrutar del Tropical Freeze en mi Nintendo Switch hoy día, los gráficos están muy bien logrados tanto en modo TV como en modo portátil diversión en estado puro, no busques historia ya que no es compleja pero su jugabilidad yEste juego me recuerda esas viejas épocas en que salía del colegio y llegaba a mi casa a jugar el Donkey Kong Country 2 en mi SNES y es una verdadera alegría poder disfrutar del Tropical Freeze en mi Nintendo Switch hoy día, los gráficos están muy bien logrados tanto en modo TV como en modo portátil diversión en estado puro, no busques historia ya que no es compleja pero su jugabilidad y diseño de escenarios nos hace notar la dedicación y el cariño con el que fue echo este videojuego, pero no creas que es un juego fácil su nivel de dificultad es muy alto al igual que su nivel de frustración, contiene el modo Funky Kong el cual es un modo de juego mas fácil para los pequeños de la casa o los principiantes en los juegos de plataforma y que decir de su banda sonora una evolución de su antigua y afamada música de juego que aunque tiene tonalidades diferentes a sus antecesores mantiene ese estilo único.… Expand

    My favorite platformer on the switch. Seriously. No joke. The levels are creative and inventive, a great level of challenge, beautiful tracks and a little overpriced for a port, but still worth it. And while it does have flaws, it's a must have.

    An amazing platformer, may be 60$ which is 10$ more than the original WII U version but in my opinion, worth the price. A combination of a large section of characters (Funky Kong, Donkey Kong, Cranky Kong, Diddy Kong, and Dixie Kong) and creative levels makes this one of the greatest 2D platformers ever made and definitely worth the purchase.

Playing one of the best games of the last 5 years on the go in a smooth 60 FPS is one of my favorite ways to experience the genius of Retro Studios. Adding my favorite Kong, Funky Kong as a playable character makes me wish I could give this an 11/10.This game is a masterpiece of a 2D platformer.     Si has crecido jugando a los Donkey kong de snes ,no te puedes perder este juegazo .

    Elevados a la máxima en lo que tiene que ser un plataformas
    Para los menos habilidosos dispone del modo funky pero si eres un autentico viciado lo disfrutaras en su modo original

    This is maybe my best platformer game ever. I was a bit frustrated by Mario Odyssey because of the lack of challenge but here I know why I paid for !

    Tropical freeze has lots of secrets to find and an amazing level design. Boss fights are intense and each level has its own mood. Already in my top 5 list on Nintendo Switch.

    Obra maestra absoluta. Continuista con la saga pero aquí no se valora la originalidad, sino la maestría del diseño de niveles y la jugabilidad. Increíble las diferentes y variadas capas de dificultad del juego de Ra... Nintendo. Es el mejor plataformas en 2D de los últimos 20 años. Dejarlo pasar es perderse un cacho de la historia de este medio. Imprescindible.

    Amazing 2D platformer, Donkey Kong Returns was good but this one is even better and it was made a lot more accesible for a more casual audience. The gameplay is perfect and the level design is top notch.

    DKC:TF Is a triumphant return to the Donkey Kong franchise that balances difficulty and charm al at once, Its glorious level design and elegant soundtrack make for an all around phenomenal experience, and deserves a spot on the shelf right alongside Mario and Zelda. This is a must have for Nintendo Switch owners, and quite possibly the best 2D platformer ever made

There are plenty of new islands to explore, new enemies and bosses, and being able to play as Funky or have Cranky on the team is awesome! The new shop bird Tawks is even hilarious. Squawks has a new friend.

    This game is perfect. It feels like the Dark Souls of 2D side scrolling games. Even after playing through it with Funky, there is still much left to do. Playing through Hard Mode will be exhilarating and Time Trials even more frantic.    … Expand

    I would be lying to say this is the not the greatest 2d platformer of all time, best level design ever, great soundtrack, the new funky Kong mode made it easier but its still hard, gorgeous graphics, Its a wonderful creative masterpiece with great level design and great controls submitting it as the greatest 2d platformer for years to come.

    When I thought nothing could make me love 2D platformers anymore, when I thought I will never be able to like 2D platformers on TV, when all that happened... I found this jewel - which I bought just for my summer holidays out of Game Boy nostalgia. I started the game being a bit sceptical, but that did last just a few minutes. Soon, I said "oooh, the level design... is genius". It was followed by an "and the art too". Contrary to others, I was not impressed by the music... until I got to a certain level and said "oook, I was wrong there too". The difficulty felt great as well. And then, I cleared my first K-level - those crazy K-levels. That feeling of satisfaction that it caused in me is so hard to describe.

    Excellent 2D platformer with some new 3D elements. First time playing it and now I'm glad I never bought it on the Wii U because this game looks amazing on Switch in 1080p 60fps.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I completed this game some months ago, but I still know that I had a blast playing it. I wasn’t sure if I would get it, when it was announced, since I already have the Wii U version, but I somehow still wanted to experience this great 2D-platformer on the switch.

    Every level in this game is unique by adding new mechanics or being specifically themed. So you won’t get bored that easily. You have to consider, that this game is pretty difficult, especially if you try to collect all the K-O-N-G-letters and the puzzle pieces. If you collect every K-O-N-G-letters of a world you get access to an extra level, which is more difficult than the other levels, which can get quite frustrating, but completing those levels feels so satisfying, that you just want to try over and over again until you finally beat it. For a 2D-platformer the graphics are also pretty good, but the most memorable thing is the stunning soundtrack. Almost every piece of music in this game is a masterpiece. It’s also really cool that you can now also play with Dixie Kong or Cranky Kong. Their unique abilities make the gameplay more interesting and more diverse.

    If you like 2D-platformers or difficult game in general you should definitely give this game a try. In my opinion, this game is one of the best games of its genre up to this date.    … Expand

    An amazing 2d platformer with wonderful level design, stunning graphics, perfect controls, and an awesome soundtrack. It's really hard but not overly hard like Returns. Avoid Star Allies and play this.

With games like Celeste, Sonic Mania, and Super Mario Bros 3 it's totally debatable, but to put this game into that conversation even is saying something. The controls may feel a little loose at first, but once you get the hang of things the Kongs feel buttery smooth to control. Level design is immaculate in this game andIn my opinion this is the greatest 2d platformer of all time.     Fuera de fanatismos, la saga Donkey Kong siempre ha sido una forma plataformera buenísima, especialmente en su trilogía origina, los Country de Rareware; sin embargo, esta entrega superó todo lo conocido de la saga, un juegazo muy divertidísimo, con mucha variedad, las mas grande dificultad y recupera la música legendaria de otras entregas.     Donkey Kong Country was one of my favorite games growing up and Freeze does not disappoint. For a 2D platformer in today's day and age it's excellent.

    The levels designs are creative and true to the franchise. The characters are fun and add to the play-ability. The music is great. The boss fights are engaging. Do recommend.

    Best Nintendo 2D-Platformer I've played in a while. DKC Returns was amazing, but this is just breathtaking. Though it has a cartoony style, it looks beautiful. Gameplay is super fun and it feels great. The level design is pure genius, every level feels unique. Soundtrack is good, but the Temple theme is DKC perfection. We need more DKC games, I need them!

    For me it’s 10 in its type. Nintendo has no competition in platformer games. Textures and resolution isn’t great but animations are amazing. Level design is astonishing. Challenges, are difficult but not frustrating. Great, great game and pure fun. After being tired of playing movies-like games on ps5 I finally sold it, and went back to Swich.     Best platformer of all time. I beat the game twice, once on an airplane and I hate airplanes and Donkey Kong helped me out and made it an awesome ride. I got it for $50 at Best Buy and I love it. Can’t wait to beat it a 3rd time, no brainer purchase

The world in the game, while clearly fictional, feels very much alive due to the populated levels, great animation, attention to detail, and the fact that nothing feels out of place. Cranky Kong has a cane which'll let you bounce on spikes if timed correctly. The level design in this game is absolutely top notch. Basically, a level takes multiple gimmicks and then slowly fuses them together to create something brilliant. What's truly impressive is how natural the level design truly feels. Everything feels like it fits in where it is. There's so much stuff going on in the background. This game is just amazing and definitely worth a go if you're a fan of 2D platformers.     The best platformer on Switch. This puts Odyssey to shame. Unfortunately never beat the original DK games since I never got them as a kid, but this made me go back and enjoy them. Had no expectations going in and left blown away. Don’t deprive yourself of this masterpiece.

    Wonderful music, omg! I can listen to them all my life! The levels are standalone too good to be true! The ability to play different characters with dk is fabulous and the game has alot of charm. Amazing video game in every aspect

    This game is fun, I like the swimming mechanics, the gameplay is great for a video game like this one. The enemies are amazing with just looking at them, the difficulty is awesome and It is great to have it on a library.

    The game's title contains the word Freeze, but it has been a long time a platformer made me sweat like this one.
    Until now it's the best game I played on the Switch, which I got last January. The graphics are magnificent, the animation fluid, the music organic and the controls intuitive and precise.
    If you have a Switch (or a WiiU) and don't have a copy of this game yet, go get it!

    This game can keep up with its precursor DKCR which isn‘t done easily. Following the same formula for success, but with new exciting level design and music. The reason this game is a 10 and not a 9 is the 3rd World/Island. The savanna has amazing soundtrack, level design, character design and an incredible atmosphere. Simply a great game.

    One of the best 2D platformers in the history of video games, nothing more nothing less. Each level has a quality level-design and a unique theme, the gameplay is excellent, the music is excellent (thanks, Favid Wise), and the difficulty is present and well balanced. Even the water levels aren't annoying. Admittedly, some buddies are still missing, but the game stands on its own.

    This is the definition of a perfect 2d platform, it has great level design, it is creative in all aspects (mechanics, locations, enemies), it has great music and it offers a great challenge that will keep the most dedicated players for over 40 hours. The best 2d platformer of all time

    Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze continues the tough-as-nails platforming with new power-ups to help navigate the nastiest obstacles, as we’re treated to the best soundtrack in the series. However, the inconsistent difficulty makes for a less refined game and the bosses are dragged out to the point where fighting them becomes a chore.
