Mar 27, 2024Disgaea 7 wants to reinvent the tactical RPG series for a new generation, and it passes the test with flying colours. Thanks to its improved gameplay mechanics, a comically engaging plot, enormous amount of content to explore, and added game modes, there is virtually no aspect in Disgaea 7 that is not an improvement over its previous chapters. It all amounts to a game that not only earned its place in the Nintendo Switch catalogue for Disgaea fans but also for newcomers who have never had contact with the series before.

Oct 11, 2023Disgaea 7 picks things back up in a great way after the stumbling of the sixth installment. It’s a big silly game with a big silly heart, pulling you in with its approachable nature and then sending you down a deep, dark hole of systems to play with. Disgaea fans often spend hundreds of hours playing each game. Some of those games deserve that, and some perhaps don’t. This one? It’s worth spending a ton of time with, so long as you aren’t wholly burnt out on the franchise’s antics already.

Sep 26, 2023Disgaea 7 offers up yet another enjoyable entry in the long-running series, offering up a more refined take on the famously in-depth gameplay systems. New mechanics such as Jumbification add some interesting wrinkles to the SRPG battles, while new modes like competitive ranked online bring even more playability to a game that’ll take you hundreds of hours to see to completion. Perhaps best of all, Disgaea 7 is very newcomer-friendly, though we will add that the very deliberate and measured approach to min-maxing isn’t for everyone. Whether you’re looking for an excellent new RPG to sink a lot of time into or you’ve been a fan of Disgaea since the PS2 days, Disgaea 7 is a worthwhile entry that we’d recommend you pick up when you can.

Nov 10, 2023Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless came a long way to deliver one of the most complete experiences you could ever ask of the franchise. Balanced and polished in terms of gameplay, Disgaea 7 could be the best one of them all so far. Just let the Switch version be your last choice if possible.

Nov 8, 2023Disgaea 7 has been a fantastic ride. It’s a meaty game to say the least and should you wish to pour hundreds of hours into this game, you easily could. I for one am excited to see what I’ve missed from previous entries and will be there day one for the hopeful Disgaea 8.

Oct 3, 2023I had recommended Disgaea 6 to anyone who enjoyed the series, but now I can endorse Disgaea 7 with more genuine optimism to broader audiences. It’s not going to win over anyone who dislikes kooky games with anime-inspired visuals, but its renewed blend of parody and pathos could be refreshing for genre veterans who have never dipped a toe into the series’ waters before.

Sep 26, 2023Disgaea 7 is a very good strategy game that takes the base of its predecessors to continue providing an adventure full of humor and crazy action. The new mechanics such as Jumbification have delighted us, and we think it has enough content to keep you hooked for dozens of hours if you are a big fan of the genre.

Sep 26, 2023Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless might just be the best game in the series, with engaging tactics gameplay and a whole lot of charm.

Oct 6, 2023Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless may not be the revolutionary chapter we were promised, but overall we are more than satisfied with the work done by the guys at Nippon Ichi Software, who after the various missteps made with the previous episode have rolled up your sleeves to get the series back on track. Some interventions seemed excessive and not always in focus, such as the reintroduction of the hospital, nevertheless the title works much better than its direct predecessor, also thanks to a more refined technical component, a main cast even crazier than usual and a handful of very innovative innovations. As long as you haven't developed an allergy to grinding, NIS's latest effort will satisfy your palates and give you hundreds of hours of entertainment.

Sep 26, 2023After the disappointing Disgaea 6, the new installment in the popular NIS franchise is a return to form.

Sep 26, 2023Playing Disgaea 7 is a heartening experience. While Disgaea 6 may have shaken some people’s faith, this entry should restore the confidence that the team knows what they’re doing. It’s more in line with what a longtime fan of the series would expect to see. Like hey, they got it right this time. It made me glad to not only return to the Netherworld again, but keep coming back for the supplemental challenges.

Sep 26, 2023Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless represents the best execution of the series’ trademark combat and level systems to date. It’s a showcase of features that have been perfected over the past twenty years to be enjoyed by players, both new and returning. While there are a few new concepts that could have used more work, and it’s a shame that the Switch version is noticeably compromised, it’s a major step back in the right direction for a long-running franchise that’s got a legion of loyal fans for a good reason.
-
Oct 2, 2023Even if very conservative in its nature, Disgaea 7 is a very solid entry in the franchise, thanks to some new ideas (such as the Kaiju-like transformation and the online asynchronous multiplayer) and hundreds of hours of content. But beware: the latest ones come at the cost of a lot of repetition and grinding.

Oct 6, 2025Disgaea 7 is a mixed bag: while it addresses many of the issues present in its predecessor, it also fails to match the sereis’ best games it is trying to emulate. I enjoyed my time with the game, but I’m left wondering where the series can go from here. Disgaea 7 does what it needs to, but I feel the series has exhausted the concept and taken it about as far as possible without a significant shakeup.

Oct 27, 2023Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is a difficult SRPG to push through if you have no previous experience with the series. But you’ve got to start somewhere, right? And once you get into the flow of it, you may find yourself losing a month or two to the game’s unique elements, tricky systems, and joyful charms.
