The game performs well on the Switch, and although the graphics are notably watered down compared to PC, they still look great. I was really impressed with the almost fully customizable controls. The controls actually make some of the melee classes more fun to play, but it makes some of the casting classes such as the sorceress a bit difficult to control. I also noticed some strange issues with getting stuck between objects that have never occurred on PC. While the controls work well, they will slow you down compared to what you can do on PC. The Switch port is excellent for walking through the game or doing some simple runs that are low risk, but once you try to do the more difficult runs, you’ll experience some difficulty in ways you wouldn’t have ever experienced on PC. For example, it’s extremely difficult to see enemy resistances in hell, so you really have to know what you’re doing. Overall, this game is great for walking through the game or as a companion to the PC version. I really do recommend it to supplement the PC version so you can play on the go. I never thought when I first played this game over 20 years ago that I would be able to play it on a device anywhere in my house. Sliding in an extra magic find run has never been easier. Expand

Diablo 2: Ressurected - it's a great example of how old games schould be remastered: now it looks amazing on ps5; all game mechanics are safely remained; dark environment, deep music - everyhting on top level and now it's much better than 20 years ago. Thank you, Vicarious Visions.

While early-WoW was great, Diablo 3 (D3) suffered by trying to add WoW-like elements such as a skills with cooldowns and complicated hoop-jumping sequences to synergise maximum damage.

But no more Convention of Elements nonsense! D2 is simply all about using your favourite skills without looking at cooldown timers or element cycles, and the addictive quest for better loot.

As an offline single player player (as I was on PC), D2 on Switch is perfect. No more repetitive strain from keyboard mashing. I saw a post from someone complaining about controls on console. Don't worry. I believe the Diablo experience using a controller is better than keyboard and mouse. It's easier to move around and more ergonomic to use skills. Picking up items is the same as D3, but you can also selectively pick up certain items by walking close to them and they will be highlighted.

The only disadvantages to controllers is not being able to use skills at a particular point in the screen (similar to D3 on consoles). Also, managing inventory/stash items is a little slow as you do have a cursor only for this part of the game. But I'm glad they kept this cursor inventory management and not used the D3 style of inventory management. D3 inventory/stash management is a mess.

As for the other features. As in the remastering parts. Yes the new graphics are great. But I actually prefer the classic graphics. The remaster reminds me too much of D3 and is too polished. The original graphics are more gritty, there is less light so it's more horror-like, and it matches the nostalgia of the era. However, the original graphics loses a bit of screen real estate on the sides compared to the remastered graphics. Remaster = fits full screen of Switch. Original graphics = sides have some black bars.

Auto gold pick up is also useful. Items can be easily sold to vendors by holding down a button.

I haven't gone through all the cinematics, but the remastered versions are excellent. However, I prefer the original ones, not for their quality, but the feelings they evoke.

Finally is the controversy of changing the character models, such as the Amazon. A lot of fuss has been made over this. I would have preferred them to look more like their originals. But it doesn't make a big difference. Especially on Switch Lite when you're not zooming in on the character anyway.

I'm having tons of fun with this game on the switch.

I'd give it 10/10 if it supported open-battlenet style multiplayer with my offline characters. Why do I have to chose between having a character that I play when I'm on a trip, and another to play multiplayer with? It's ridiculous. Cross-play would be good to have too.

Even on PC I prefer the controller because it allows me to map skills directly to buttons which makes me even use those neglected skills on weapons. Compared to mouse and keyboad (unless you have a 10 button mouse) this is a really advantage.
But more about the switch version. Graphically it is as good as it can be I guess. For me it is one of the best looking games I have on the switch. Of course lots of detail has been cut for the switch version, but you only notice that in direct comparison. Loading times are great once you're actually in the game. I never noticed frame rate drops of any kind (though I must say that I only played by myself so far). So yeah, go ahead and get it or wait for the price to drop but blizzard being blizzard.. that might take a while.

And this also plays into the nostalgia.

And if the game is running, when the servers are up, it runs stable, it fulfills everything I could have wished for, it just feels right. I do enjoy the QoL changes, although I'm honestly not regularily using them anyway. For example, I've activated the auto-pickup for gold, but I keep on manually clicking it anyway, since I was used to do so, and in D2:R, I feel right back home...

It's blowing my mind that this master-piece came from the same studio that made Diablo Immortal.

Overall, I liked the game. There are some problems with the network component, but it's still the same Diablo, only in a beautiful wrapper. Still, of course, the price in the Nintendo Russia store is upsetting: $ 55. And it's not even a physical copy of the game.

For a whole 6 hours after this I am not able to play any online character, I get all different type of errors.
I gave up on lunch day but the next day I removed the game and then download again. This time it worked fine and since then me and my son play together without any issues.
The only fix I need fo increase my score is the sudden teleport that happens for my character and bang I am in the middle of a group of monsters, I thought this was frame rates drop but when I play offline I never get this issue so I guess it’s battle net issue.
And yes please fix the Amazon why its SO ugly?

I tried Diablo 2 on both PS5 and Switch. I found the experience to be much better on Switch as the mindless fun of the grind seems to be better laid back on the sofa with something on TV in the background. Having only played Diablo 3 previously and Diablo 2 briefly when I was younger, the graphics and character models of Diablo 2: Resurrected left a much better impression on me. The limited view of lighting around each character really adds to the mood too.

Some people don't like the gear dropping when you die but I think its a nice nod to games of the past and adds some threat to mindlessly darting around a level as a sorceress (a very squishy character).

The worst difference between PS5 and Switch is the matchmaking experience. The max player amount is capped at 4 instead of 8 on PS5 which effects difficulty too.

In around 100 or so hours worth of playing, I haven't matched with a player for longer than 10 minutes. You should only attempt to matchmake on Hell mode as that is where I've found most success.

There have been many connectivity issues in the past few weeks but these seem to be somewhat resolved through the queue system. It wasn't fun being disconnected and losing tons of progress and having to fight your way all the way through dungeons again which has now has a new randomized layout and enemy spawns. Other times opening your online only character wasn't even a possibility.

I can only recommend this game if you are comfortable with a solo experience in what is essentially a multiplayer game. I'm fine with this but I can see this being a deal breaker for veterans of the game or people that might not understand mechanics too well and need a helping hand.

A shockingly disappointing experience. While not egregiously bad, much of whatever fun could be gleaned from a game this old (despite its sterling reputation as the pinnacle of the action RPG experience) seems to have been siphoned out from this version of the game.

A shockingly disappointing experience. While not egregiously bad, much of whatever fun could be gleaned from a game this old (despite its sterling reputation as the pinnacle of the action RPG experience) seems to have been siphoned out from this version of the game.

D2: Resurrected demands that you log into Battle.net every time you want to play. This seems like a poor start to a game whose issues are further exacerbated by the sometimes minutes-long wait to actually get to the character select screen. Furthermore, the graphical improvements are pretty lacklustre, even for the Switch - character models don't seem as though they've been improved much, and I almost mistook them for the same models from the original release. This is symptomatic of what Resurrected seems to be - a low-effort port trumped up with an always-online requirement, which Blizzard can use to capitalize on nostalgia without investing heavily into such a game's quality. Considering the storied legacy Diablo 2 has, such an unwillingness to make Resurrected at least as much fun as its original incarnation is truly a pity.

I humbly offer that in order for a remaster to earn a seal of approval from me, it has to refine the experience of the original game. It need not necessarily provide many new features, nor make everything look completely new and modern, but I think it needs to improve upon what the original did - offering the original experience alone on modern platforms is not enough. And sadly, like with many modern remasters of older games, I think Diablo 2: Resurrected offers a soured, shrivelled version of the original Diablo 2.

Anyone looking for a fun action RPG on the Switch will likely be pleased with the Switch version of Diablo 3. Unless you have no other way to enjoy Diablo 2 or are desperate to play it, I recommend you look past this version of the game, which feels like an utter chore to play.

BUT … sadly the online capability is really not that great. No way to find a lobby. It’s really hard to connect to other players. No real crossplay … you’re stuck to your platform. It would be so awesome if we all could really play

The game's servers have constant problems and honestly as somebody who didn't grow up on D2, it's pretty overrated. All the slows and mana burns and melee hit accuracy are just a chore to deal with, Whatever challenge they add it feels more like the game isn't responding which is compounded by the fact the servers suck and it lags sometimes.

Diablo II: Resurrected is a great game, but in a genre that has seen drastic growth and evolution ever since. It’s an experience that is certainly worth playing, especially if you understand the context that it was launched and its importance to today’s titles.

Diablo II Resurrected, for the most part, strikes a perfectly respectable balance between maintaining the look and feel of the original and updating it for a modern audience. It's unambitious, but it doesn't really need to be any more than that — Diablo II was a wonderful game, and all it really needed was a bit of sprucing up at the end of the day. That's been done here, and done mostly well, and the transition to a gamepad is probably is good as it could've been. Still, it feels dated in some ways, and its online/offline character split was a dreadful choice, given how bad the servers have been for it. Still, it is Diablo II, for better and for worse, and if you're like me and have a nostalgic attachment to it, it's probably worth a play.

Diablo II: Resurrected is a great port plagued by the usual server issues. When those stop — or if you can work around them — D2:R is a great port that polishes up a cult classic without losing its original charm and gameplay loop. The improved visuals run well on the Switch, and the quality-of-life improvements and good controller implementation ensure that D2 is a joy to experience on the handheld. Of course, there are some noticeable downgrades, but none of them impede the experience, and they're necessary to ensure the game runs smoothly and without hitches. If you favor portability over quality, the Switch version of D2:R is worth picking up.
