I was a huge fan of the first game in the series. I happened across it by accident in the Xbox Live Marketplace way, way back in 2010. I spent hours on this unique take on tower defense. Fast forward to 2014, and voila, a sequel arrived, and it did a good job at being a decent sequel. Fast forward to 2014, and voila, a sequel arrived, and it did a good job at being a decent sequel. It didn't do too much to change a working formula, and the continued story adds a layer of depth always lacking in games like this. Here we are now in 2019, and so what if it's being brought to the Switch this late in the game. It's very playable, and a great way to introduce people to the world of tower defense if they aren't already familiar with the genre. There's enough towers to give variety, and the leaderboards are enough to add a competitive layer to the game. It would be nice to see some more customization elements in the game, but then again, this is a port of a game released 5 years ago, so you can't expect them to add that many new elements to the game. I'm a fan, and I hope Hidden Path has plans for a third installment that can be released on the Switch at the same time as other consoles & PC. Expand

There are tonnes of tower defense games out there but this, while not overly original, is well balanced and fun. It’s visually detailed, intuitive to pick up, and has plenty of levels and achievements to keep you occupied.

I really like Defense Grid 2. The Switch version may not be the best, but it still provides a lot of fun for less than $20. And while the visuals are a little lacklustre, the core mechanics and level design are just as good as ever. This is a game that will keep you busy for hours as levels can take up to 40 minutes to complete. You can speed time up but you need to be careful as it’s possible to get overwhelmed before you know it. There are also twelve different ways to play each level, from two-player to having a fixed budget to limited upgrades. If you’re a fan of tower defense titles, then Defense Grid 2 is a game that deserves some space on your Switch.

This tower defense is as content-rich as it is conservative in terms of mechanics, with added technical flaws in the Switch version.
