Once you get beyond the early levels, the game is more than willing to let you do your thing, and that’s when you can’t help but be drawn in to its colourful word. There’s no way of telling whether we’ll ever get a third instalment in the franchise, but if we don’t, then de Blob 2 is a delightful high note for the series to end on (and, as a sidenote, it’s great to see the proper sequel finally arrive on a Nintendo system, after Nintendo owners were stuck with a significantly different version last time around).

De Blob 2 keeps many of the same characteristics found in the original game, with both the brilliant - and the not-so-brilliant - features mostly staying intact. The cameras can still be occasionally fiddly, and things can feel a little too easy in places, but brand new 2D sections and a slightly more refined-feeling overall experience put the sequel just above the original in our pecking order. Either game should go down well – especially with a younger audience – but this one just about splashes its way into first place.

Overall, if you’re a fan of the De Blob series or if you’re just looking for a nice and peaceful game to add to your Switch library, I’d recommend giving this one a shot and letting your inner graffiti artist run wild.
